05/02/12
Well holy crap on a cracker there's a lot of shows happening on the Coast this month.
We have updated the gig guide, and February looks pretty full.
This week it's mainly down to SolBar's line-up (with Pensive Penguin, Darky Roots, and Kindread's shows all looking to be big), but after that, you're spoilt for choice.
We've had feedback from SCOPE readers that they enjoyed our article in the latest issue, so we've been asked to write another. Without giving too much away, here's a grab quote from an article in a local publication that we're basing the next article around - '...rebuild the Coast's once-thriving live music culture'. (*that gave us a chuckle... obviously the journalist has REALLY researched our scene. Once-thriving? Take a look around, man, we've got an amazing live music culture. - Ed).
Don't forget... tomorrow is Double Pass giveaway to SolBar day. Pay attention during the day for alerts, and then the question. First one in with the correct answer, gets the Double Pass.
03/02/12
Mitch Davis and the Dawn Chorus!!! Nice work getting played on the J's last night, lads.
Drawcard, Helm, Take Us To Vegas all at Noosa tonight. Helm are bloody hard-working band (seems to us that they're always touring), but also go see why Drawcard are charting so high in the AIR charts at the moment.
Read the article about MC Wheels in the latest SCOPE magazine? He'll be one of the supports at SolBar tonight for the return of Evil Eddie (Butterfingers).
Interesting mix of musicians at Duporth Tavern last night, which featured Innessa as the main act. Not only was there a feature act, but Forms of Recreation, Zoey Jurss, Mitch Barrington all popped their name up onto the whiteboard as well. The sense of comradeship amongst Coast musicians at these events is strong, and doesn't go unnoticed.
Hopefully the weather clears up for Peregian Originals on Sunday... fingers crossed. (Praying to ol' Huey the Weather God might be worth a shot too).
Those Old Soles.. the band, that's not a band, but plays like one, are back again with a few dates coming up, the first being the Editor's Birthday as feature artists at Open Mic at the Duporth Tavern, then another show coming up on March 1st at SolBar. Details will be up closer to the dates.
Another Wanted Ad has been placed. All you available guitarists, go check it out.
Have a good weekend, folks. Awesome music out there.
02/02/12
Tonight it's Circle of Sounds night at the Duporth Tavern, with feature act Innessa. (We're currently in the process of reviewing her album, but take our word for it, she's very worthy of heading down and watching - very rarely do we see a crowd go quiet when an artist is playing). As always, it's free, 8pm start, and $4 Burritos/$2 Tacos.
Over at the SolBar tonight, Astrid and the Asteroids will be your entertainment, with support from Lyre. Tomorrow night Evil Eddie (Butterfingers) returns, with supports including MC Wheels.
A French Butler Called Smith return to the SolBar as well this Saturday night (and rumour has it a few Point followers will be having a joint birthday there as well - we're looking at you, Lisa from LisaSister Photography).
Messiam HAVE WRAPPED UP recording their new album. Nice work lads. Can't wait to hear what you boys have come up with. Our favourite shredmaster (and sometime contributor) Rob Stanley has done some amazing artwork for their album too (you can see a sample on our Facebook page).
The Secret Whisper are set to play a pretty tasty gig down in Melbourne tonight. (We TOLD you these kids were one to watch).
Congratulations to The Bea7nix boys for cracking 300 plays of their remix of "How Does Love Feel" on Soundcloud. Haven't heard it yet? Click here.
How are the SCOPE Reader's Choice Awards votes coming along? Hopefully some (if not all) of you have had a say as to who should win the cover of the next issue of SCOPE. Who will it be? (we've hedged our bets, but we think there's a dark horse in the mix).
Those Drawcard boys are back again, supporting Helm up in Noosa tomorrow night, along with Take Us to Vegas. The Drawcard boys are doing the Coast proud with their efforts in the AIR charts at the moment (yes, we're paying attention lads, mightily impressed).
31/01/12
...and so the Scope Magazine Reader's Choice Awards kicks into gear.
Text your favourite band, artist, multiples (from the nominated 50) to 0457 613 558. The band/artist with the most votes will score a cover shot for Scope Magazine. Pretty damn good.
Messiam are still in the studio this week, putting the finishing touches to their next EP.
Must be the weather for it, as Kindread are in the studio, getting ready to put out a single in just over a week and a half, which will be launched at SolBar on Feb 11th, supported by Soula and Debargo.
Coming up this week, Evil Eddie (of Butterfingers fame) comes back to the Coast to play SolBar (last time he was here, the crowd went nuts... great show). MC Wheels, who had a feature article in the latest Scope Magazine will be one of the supports on the night.
Coolum Beach Hotel is really stepping up a notch with the live gigs, with one this Saturday night featuring Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, Mick McCombe, and Soula, thanks to Front Rose Events & Management.
One band we have our eye on at the moment with baited breathe is The Seal Club. A new band bringing the grunge/punk sound to the Coast. Check them out here. Looking forward to hearing what they have to offer. (Did we not predict a 90s grunge resurgence?).
Kings Head would be the other band we're interested in seeing something from (featuring ex-Technical Symplicity drummer, Ben Bazeley).
Open Mic tomorrow night at SolBar folks. Loving how these nights are getting more and more popular.
29/01/12
Hope you all had a musically hectic weekend, despite the shit, unpredictable weather.
We managed to sneak in two reviews this weekend; one from The Vagrant City Scandal's show on Friday night, the other from last night's Solbar show featuring Kingfisha and The Flumes. You can check out the reviews here and here.
Also, keep an eye out for the latest issue of SCOPE magazine. Not only will you find an article by our editor in there (about the outlook for Coast music in 2012), but also in the centre-spread there are 50 local bands/artists that have been nominated to take out the first SCOPE cover for a local artist. All you have to do is text the band or artist's name to the provided number. Pick up your copy of SCOPE from selected stockists (surf shops, skate shops, venues etc).
Massive well done to The Floating Bridges on their support slot for Barnesy on Friday night, The Mank on their support slot for NZ's Kora on Australia Day, and to Drawcard and D13 on their support slots for Guttermouth tonight. Coast talent is getting recognised, yo.
26/01/12
Happy Australia Day, Point followers.
Indulge in the music that our area (of which is part of our great country) has produced.
Raw Sounds is on RIGHT NOW at Mooloolaba Surf Club's Function Room (it's FREE) with Roshambos, Spuhtnik, Soula, Lucy & Jade and more.
The Caloundra Events Centre is hosting The Floating Bridges, Afterglow and more from midday today.
SolBar's Open Mic night has been moved to tonight due to last night's Rev Sunday show.
Which means there are two Open Mic Nights happening tonight, with Circle of Sounds at the Duporth Tavern on tonight as well (with guest act Kindread, no wait, Dubarray, or Kindarray, or dubdread... guess you'll have to go and find out from 7.30pm).
The Vagrant City Scandal are launching their Wildfire EP tomorrow night at SolBar, with supports Dunsinane and Martin Party.
SCOPE Magazine is now out with an article by us in it (special thanks to Ms Sando for her editing skills). You may agree with the article, you may not... also, check it out for another very interesting piece. Guess you'll have to get a copy to see what we're on about.
Tomorrow afternoon at one of our favourite coffee spots, Cafe Envy hosts Ollie Jackson from 4pm.
And don't forget to also check out Husk & Honey in Nambour's Queen St on Saturday mornings (a local business that bassist John Collins (Kahn, Greenroom, etc) helps to run). Good coffee and guest musician, open from 8am.
Word is Phantom Lighter Thieves have finished their EP, and will be sending a copy our way to check out. Very interested in seeing what they came up with.
Kindread are also in the studio (at The Vault) getting a few new songs ready, one of which will be the new single they will be releasing on February 11 at SolBar.
22/01/12
Big week this week, particularly with good ol' Australia Day on this Thursday, there's plenty of opportunity to take in some homegrown music.
Rev Sunday and more on Wednesday night at SolBar for Australia Day Eve, which makes for a very decent warm-up for the next day.
It's the return of Raw Sounds on Thursday, with great youth acts playing at Arthur Parkyn Park (that's the re-done park next to the Mooloolaba Surf Club) from 11am, with the likes of Spuhtnik, Soula, Sahara Beck, The Roshambos and more all for free.
At Kings Beach Ampitheatre, The Floating Bridges will be part of a free line-up from midday. Given that today's Nambour Originals was rained out (booooo weather), this is a good chance to see the Bridges boys, as they're quite busy with the new recording at the moment.
Thursday night at Duport Tav's Circle of Sounds Open Mic Night, Kindread will be the headline act, performing semi-acoustically.
There's more coming up this week.. so that's just a lead in to get you ready.
Excruciate, those gore-metal legends, are back with a new line-up and more sounds. We should be seeing the long-awaited follow-up album from them soon enough.
Last week, we threw out a challenge for all our Coast musicians to film themselves performing covers of other Coast musicians, then upload to YouTube and link us. We think this a) helps to further promote Sunshine Coast music and b) shows how much camadarie there is between artists in this area.
Spuhtnik's Ben is the first one to accept the challenge, offering a cover of Dunsinane's 'Slip', which we now have featured.
Keep them coming.
Artificial Red have been busy in the studio recording an EP with Rob Stanley. They've sent through a new track. You can now have a listen to 'Stand Up' on their page.Very cool mix of punk and hardcore sounds.
Another wanted/available ad has been posted as well. Check it out on the Wanted page.
By the way, how are those entries coming along for the Dead Kelly 'Win Some Brutal Sh*T' comp?
And don't forget, tomorrow is Monday.. and that means it's competition time. Time to give away another Double Pass to Solbar this week. Pay attention to our Facebook updates during the day to play.
19/01/12
Apologies for the lack of website updates this week. We needed to take a little time off.
Tonight, The Secret Whisper have their Solbar cherries well and truly popped when they play there as part of their Le Jeune Amour Tour (that actually quite rolls off the tongue), with support from Dunsinane and Starlight Theatre. Only $5 on the door. We gave away a double pass to that earlier in the week if you were paying attention.
Those Dead Kelly boys are at it again. They love their country, they love their music, and they dig their fans, so they're running an Australia Day competition where 'you could win some really sweet sh*t'. Go check the video here. If you've been wanting to get your hands on a Dead Kelly singlet, here's your chance. They're few and far between. (By the way, 6,400 views of F*ck Off C*nt on YouTube now).
Open Mic tonight at Duport Tav. Point Crew will be there scoping emerging talent (before heading over to see The Secret Whisper). It appears that musicians on the Sunshine Coast have got the idea now. USE the Open Mic nights to test new material, or get noticed (or both). NICE!
We've submitted an article to Scope Magazine on the outlook for 2012, so hopefully we got it right. That will be out next month.
The Floating Bridges (wow... we really can't go a few days without mentioning these guys can we?) are finishing up their time in the studio working on their debut full length with producer Brian (a lot will know Brian as your trusty sound engineer at SolBar). According to sources (ok, well, it was Rohan AND Cale) they've added strings to two of the songs on the album (we know which ones, but not letting that cat out of the bag yet). Definitely looking forward to a sneak peek.
Sooo... we have another big weekend coming up, and then next week with Australia Day, there's going to be plenty of locally-brewed, tasty talent all over the Coast.
13/01/12
Awesome job by The Roshambos last night at their Single Launch at SolBar. Great crowd, and their jangly, pop rock sounds had everyone bouncing. Looking forward to hearing the final EP.
A special mention to new minion Shane and his efforts at Circle of Sounds Open Mic night at Duporth last night, having been thrown into the deep end with a song suggested by the Editor... he survived and pulled off a very convincing version of 'Instant Karma' (Lennon).
And... your weekend starts... NOW.
Right now, Cafe Envy has Forms of Recreation (which features one of our favourite drummers, Bam Bam). After that SolBar has a great treat with Red Bantoo returning, supported by in2nation, and from what we've heard, Kudos will be appearing too. Get your dancing shoes on.
In Caloundra, Kings Beach Tavern has The Potbelliez (those of 'Don't Hold Back' fame), and more.
Pretty hard to pick, but hey, at least you're spoilt for choice.
Tomorrow night starts the epic 2-night run for Bonjah with Mitch Davis & The Dawn Chorus at Solbar, so if you miss out on Saturday night's session, try for Sunday. Tickets are available for $15 pre-sale still.
Have a good weekend folks.
11/01/12
Open Mic Night at Solbar tonight. If you see our new Point minion, Conjure Shane floating around (just look for the black curls), go and give him a hug and a pat on the back for doing a great job in his first few weeks.
Tomorrow night Circle of Sounds hosts Afterglow at the Duporth Tav, followed by the usual muso lovefest with the regulars. It's a good little warm-up for the weekend.
Cafe Envy hosts Forms of Recreation on Friday evening, featuring yesterday's birthday girl, Bam Bam.
Cleveland Blues are going back into the studio for some re-recording AND to lay down some new tracks. Apparently we're up for a double release from the stompin' lot this year.
The Floating Bridges have announced that they'll be supporting Barnesy... again. More on that show soon.
Nice work to The Bea7nix for their newest track getting quite a bit of notice. Check it out here.
If you remember, with the predictions list we made earlier this week, we made some bold calls. Firstly, the all-girl supergroup comprising of Alys, Sahara, Taylor, and Kelsie... well, apparently Sahara has said that if her tracks crack the top 100 on Triple J Unearthed next week, we may just see her try and get the other girls together for one song. We'll take that!
But also, purely tongue in cheek, we suggested a 90s/Grunge revival... low and behold, the brothers Vincent (Clint and Dan - Melodyssey) have unveiled the project they are collaborating on. Check out Cute Machines. Very Stone Temple Pilots, we think. Like them on Facebook, and have a listen to their first demo track.
09/01/12
We've been going bloggy crazy today.
First off, we welcome Shane from Conjure Elysian as a new Point minion. He'll be out and about at Open Mic nights, checking out new artists, who to look out for, and what's been happening. We gave him a task, and so far he's fulfilled his duties. Check out his 'Sweet Sounds' blog entries.
We've also put up our predictions for 2012.. obviously with our mischievious nature, these are purely tongue-in-cheek (though some would be cool if they actually do happen).
A big happy birthday to Alys Longmate, who turns 16 today...
and if we forget to.. happy birthday tomorrow to the awesome Bam Bam.
Congrats to Rhian for taking out today's Monday Double Pass to Solbar competition. She's off to see Red Bantoo and in2nation on Friday night, thanks to Solbar.
The Roshambos will be launching their debut EP this Thursday night. Produced by Brett Gadenne (Kindread, Dubarray), we've been keeping an eye on these boys over the last 6 months. Come to Solbar on Thursday night to check it out.
Oh, and the gig guide has been updated again.
07/01/12
So, the rumours are true.. Bam Bam (drummer for Cleveland Blues) is now playing drums for The Flumes as well. You can catch The Flumes with Pacha Mama and Mason Rack Band tonight at the Coolum Beach Hotel... just the start of regular live music back at that venue. It's only $10 and kicks off aroun 7/8ish.
Nambour Originals tomorrow with a stellar line-up (assuming this cloudy weather buggers off) - Juke Baritone & The Swamp Dogs, Richard Perso, and Caroline Trengrove. Kicks off at 1pm, and remember to donate at least $3 to $5 to help keep the event running.
SolBar has Joelistics returning tonight. Massive night of hip hop coming up.
Tomorrow afternoon at the Buderim Tavern, another Sunday Sesh awaits from 4pm with Kelsie Rimmer, Kimbal Imaz-Hirst, and Taylor Moss.
Massive congratulations to the power trio of Alys Longmate, Sahara Beck and Kelsie Rimmer for taking out the Coolum Original Song Comp on Thursday night. The girls are kicking arse, lads...
04/01/12
The return of Open Mic goodness at SolBar tonight from 6pm. It appears that they have decided to open up the back bar for these nights (as they have become quite packed to keep it all in the front bar, we're guessing). It's free entry as always.
Happy Birthday to Recon, Scotty (from Darkc3ll) and to Jye.
Tomorrow night at the Coolum Beach Hotel, it is the Finals of the Coolum Original Song Comp, and holy crap there's some competition there. Let's see.... Alys Longmate, Sahara Beck, Caroline Trengrove, Ebony Hamacek, in2nation and more battle it out for supremecy!! Get in early for that one to see so much awesome talent in one night (and whoa... how many of the next generation of female singer/songwriters are in that lot???).
Tomorrow night at SolBar, those alt/country wunderkinds, Wild Comforts come back to the Coast. Go check to see how the Melbourne life has been treating them.
It's the first week of 2012, and we're looking forward to some wicked new releases this year - The Floating Bridges full length, Cleveland Blues' new one, Messiam's next offering, The Roshambos' debut, and rumour has it that we'll get a new Dead Kelly album this year too. EXCITE!!!1!11!!!!
02/01/12
Happy New Year, folks! We hope yours was a blast.
Now with the Festive Season out of the way, FestiVAL Season is in full swing.
We've got a very cool one coming up on Australia Day. It's the return of Raw Sound, this time at Mooloolaba's Arthur Parkyn Park. Kicking off at 11am, Raw Sound will feature The Roshambos, Soula, Spuhtnik, Sahara Beck, Jessie Ryan-Allen, and He Said She Said, as well as Drumming and Circus Workshops. Another awesome event brought to you by AMPED, Book a Band Direct, SCRC and more.
Rikochetz return this week with another AA gig in Nambour, with Countdown to Armageddon and more providing your need for heavy tones.
Cafe Envy will host Sahara Beck this Friday night. These cosy acoustic sessions are very popular, and a great lead in to an awesome Friday night of music.
Rivalry have finally released a clip for one of their tracks. We've put the video to Free Love up on the home page.
29/12/11
Cleveland Blues are back in town and have added a kickarse New Year's gig... they'll be playing Kawana Surf Club with Zed Charles.
Tomorrow night at the SolBar, catch funky outfit, Anarchist Duck, together with Kiara Jack and (one of our faves) The Flumes.
Kindread are off down south for NYE, playing the Buddha Bar in Byron Bay, supporting Kingtide.
Check out this clip from another great Sunshine Coast artist, Khan. Pretty awesome clip... again... Sunshine Coast music shows it's truly world class.
17/12/11
Still recovering from The Point Xmas Party. The video is down below and on The Point TV page if you missed it.
Tonight we welcome Live at De'Hub's debut at the North Shore Community Centre in Mudjimba. Hopefully this rolls along smoothly and we'll see it become a more permanent monthly event. Tonight it's Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, Rusty Dogs, Sue-Anne, and Sahara Beck.
Up in the wilderness of Peregian, Peregian Originals organiser, Jay Bishoff is being sent off in style (he's heading to Bali) which started at 4pm this afternoon, but will continue till the wee hours. The Floating Bridges, Sahara Beck, Dan Lyons, Alys Longmate, Harii Bandhu all performing. Want more details? Click here.
SolBar has touring act Set Sail tonight, with support from Holland. Remember to get in early as Saturday nights tend to pack out quickly (especially with Xmas parties in full swing too).
13/12/11
And ANOTHER venue is starting up, albeit it's a once-a-month deal, but still, it's another great night out coming up. Live at De'Hub will be kicking off this Saturday night with headliners Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, who will be joined by Rusty Dogs, SolBar regular Sue-Anne, and one of our little faves, Sahara Beck. It's at the North Shore Community Centre in Mudjimba, kicking off from 6pm and is $15. Pretty damn good for a helluva night.
Thursday night at SolBar this week is a very special occasion. Bringing together three awesome songwriters, SolBar presents Songwriter's Circle featuring Carl Wockner, Drew Wilson and Tim Lyodell.
That same night though, The Point crew will be getting together for our annual Christmas Party, so you may find our Christmas message going online that night.
Bids have started on the Golden Days Festival shirt signed by The Beautiful Girls, Xavier Rudd and more. Currently sitting on $45, if you want to bid, head to our Facebook page and leave your bid on the status with the shirt. Bids will be accepted up till Thursday night.
12/12/11
Young bands.... YOU NEED to check out this.
AMPED, Book a Band Direct, SCYP and Lifeline have come together to bring present a fabulous Summer program of 3 music industry workshops, 3 live music events, and live audio/visual recordings for Sunshine Coast bands and musos from 23rd January to 26th March 2012. What to know more? (YOU SHOULD!) Click here.
Awesome fun had at The Floating Bridges' gig back (and thanks for letting me do the lights, lads - Ed). The boys will be quiet for a bit, resting up after their tour, but will be back with Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, and Kindread on Christmas Eve at the Coolum Beach Hotel.
Another succesful winner for this week's Double Pass to SolBar. The lucky winner and a guest will be off to see The Upsteppers this Friday night, thanks to SolBar and The Point Sunshine Coast. Check back (on our Facebook) next Monday for another chance to win.
We've just noticed another yound band pop up. Soul Fever.. we'll be watching you guys to see what you come up with.
We're currently listening to Rivalry's EP (we went to their launch last Thursday night). Nice work, lads. We'll have a review up soon.
Apologies to After This Moment, we'll get your profile up soon. Things have been a little busy. In the meantime check out their track here while we work on the page.
Have you checked out the video under Point TV (on the home page)? These lads will be supporting Afterglow at the Kings Beach Tavern this Friday night.
09/12/11
Kings Beach Tavern hosts a heat for the Global Battle of the Bands tonight with a great line-up of battlers, followed by local metal legends, Inhailed.
At SolBar, tonight you can catch Kooii with Hayden Hack Infusion. This should be a big night, so to avoid the line-up, get in early eh?
Tomorrow, the Sunshine Coast welcomes home The Floating Bridges as they support US' Fish Out of Water at the SolBar.
The Editor and Roh headed out to catch Circle of Sound's Thursday night Open Mic sessions at Duporth Tav last night and managed to witness Chris Finch (one 1/2 of Finchington) and the very scarily talented Taylor Moss killin' it on the mic. These nights are a great little warm up to the weekend, and you never know who you'll see playing.
The Point also caught Rivalry's EP launch last night at SolBar. The Rivalry boys are all grown up now and put on a wicked show. We'll be checking out their EP this coming week. Also, Pro Vita? WTF? We thought you guys had broken up. Great to see a return.
Word is that Phantom Lighter Thieves hbave finished recording their CD and a release is slated for Jan/Feb. Very keen to see what these boys have produced.
A new venue is starting up, putting on shows once a month at Mudjimba's North Shore Community Centre. The very first one kicks off on Dec 17th and will feature Cleveland Blues, Rusty Dogs, Sue-Anne, and Sahara Beck. Great debut for a new venue. Details available by clicking the poster down below.
Looking for something to do on Christmas Eve? There's always options. SolBar have The Greenroom (yes, they've managed to persuade Alex and co. to do a show.. yes!!!) and in2nation (featuring SolBar's Micdog) to keep you entertained, and on the northern end, at the Coolum Beach Hotel, catch The Floating Bridges, Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, and Kindread in an oh-my-god-these-bands-are-all-playing-together-in-one-night kind of show.
07/12/11
And the Dead Kelly juggernaut keeps rolling on. At the time of typing, the filmclip has now hit over 1,600 views since uploaded on Monday night. Just spoke to Pine Cone Throat and he's said the reaction has been overwhelming to say the least. Dead Kelly's reverbnation page has been 'going off' as well. Well done, mate.
We've got a new band to add to the band database this week. We're a little inundated with work here, but we'll get the page up for After This Moment up soon. In the meantime, check out their facebook page here. Female-fronted rrrrrrock.
We're off to SolBar's open mic night to start the hazing on our n00b presenter. Once they've completed their task, they will be inducted into our tight-knit little crew and be a minion to bring you some cool interviews. All will be revealed soon.
Rivalry are launching their EP tomorrow night at SolBar, and we'll be there to prove that it ACTUALLY happened. No sh*t... we've been waiting for this little gem for a while now.
05/12/11
Great turn out for Peregian Originals yesterday, but as Jay pointed out, donations were low. Remember, this event needs donations from the public to keep on keeping on. It's not exactly a 'free' event. Other than that, great to see people enjoying our local and touring bands.
Another Double-Pass to a SolBar event was given away this morning. If you want a chance to win, you need to be watching Monday mornings.
Welcome our boys, The Floating Bridges back this weekend when they play SolBar with touring US band, Fish Out of Water.
Nice work to Conjure Elysian who have now jumped to #9 in the Rock charts on JJJ Unearthed. Great to see the younger bands get in there.
It's finally here. We slaved over editing this filmclip over the last two weekends, with Pine Cone Throat pacing back and forward.... and voila. The official filmclip to the new track, 'F*ck Off C*nt' is now up for your viewing please. If you can't handle course language, best not to watch it, otherwise, enjoy.
01/12/11
Your big weekend of slabs of music starts now... and what better time than the first day of summer?
The Point's off to shmooze and hobnob with the PR & Media industry types tonight before we get stuck into a tasty meal of Transvaal Diamond Syndicate, The Blackwater Fever, and the awesome Snowdroppers at SolBar tonight.
We might even sneak off to the Duporth Tav for the first Circle of Sounds Open Mic night there, to see what talent is lurking (and to get cheap tacos and buritos... om nom nom).
Tomorrow in Cooror, it's Live on the Beans, a very cool event on the Cooroy Library Rooftop (how very Beatles...) featuring food, stalls, and music from Those Clever Foxes and Spuhtnik. It kicks off at 7pm and is free entry.
Tomorrow night at SolBar, those kings of skanky, mad-capped, reggae-ska good times, Cheap Fakes are back, with a little help from their mates Kindread, and Roland from Bump DJs to wrap up the evening. If you want to do the inside rain dance, tomorrow night will be a good chance to pull it off.
This weekend plenty more shows coming up, just check the gigs guide. We'll be updating again over the next few days.
Here at Point HQ, we'll be working on finishing up the new Dead Kelly filmclip to 'F*ck Off C*nt'. It's looking pretty damn spiffy at the moment, with ol' Pine Cone Throat beaming over it like a proud dad watching his little one flip the forks for the first time.
