One of the hardest shows as a musician is to play a venue the night after a bigger band has played that venue. Doubly so in Winter on the Sunshine Coast.
However, with the first act up (a solo act playing some cool bluesy folk - sorry dude, didn't catch your name) and the Dead Shades pulling out just days before, there's actually a bit of crowd slowly streaming in.
The Secret Whisper are up second. Currently working on their debut CD, these guys and girl have the right combination of clever alt-rock tunes and marketable good looks to be serious contenders on the SE Qld scene.
Their sound is a mix of female-fronted rock bombastics, crafty melodies, and healthy dose of the more mainstream modern punk. They show a whole heap of energy on stage, just a shame the audience were more of the stubborn type, or they just prefer to sit back and enjoy the show.
Frontwoman Jess had admitted earlier that she was suffering from a bit of rough throat, and apart from a few stretched/strained notes in the very first song, you couldn't notice. Jess, you're a trooper.
The Rambling Van are last up. Never heard of them before, and for reasons unknown, I've failed to do my research into what these guys sound like.
It came down to three simple words. Stoner. Hard. Rock.
These guys had a solid groove, very bass heavy, with some psychedelia thrown in for good measure.
All in all, another awesome free night of music, courtesy of Villa Noosa.
