Live@The Rolling Rock featuring Tranzluzid, Desolution & Inhaled.

As with a lot of opening nights, there can be some teething problems. Nothing that can’t be fixed, but we all experience something like this occasionally.

Now, given that The Rolling Rock in Noosa is a venue that in the last decade has rarely had any live bands play, Mic from MIA Entertainment did a bang-up job organising what will hopefully be a regular occurence of live, local music on the Northern end of the Coast,

Inhouse levels were pretty fucking loud with just the CD playing, but leveled out when the bands took to the stage. All things that can easily be sorted out next time.

Turn out was actually a lot better than I had expected (again, opening nights sometimes you’re lucky to get 10 or 20 people in), with easily 60 people inside the venue, which, given that The Rolling Rock is a nightclub, actually made the venue look more busy.

Noosa music fans are also notoriously loyal to the local scene, so it can be a mission to get people out to see bands from other than Noosa area.

Locals, Tranzluzid took the stage first, kicking straight into the song ‘Master of Disguise’. These guys are a very tight band, and have been earning a solid reputation on the Coast circuit. Showing off a well-oiled, solid rhythm section that jelled well together, and with the addition of keys in the mix to thicken the sound.

The guitars were tight, with some fancy lead work thrown in amongst the riffs, and the powerhouse vocals from frontwoman Rose, altogether make for a very unique sounding band for the Sunshine Coast.

Personally, though, the band didn’t quite hit the pace UNTIL they pulled out an acoustic track, which to me was the highlight of their set. After that the songs really found their pace and the band hit their groove. All in all, a good way to start the night.

I’d never heard of Desolution before, but was assured by Mic from MIA that these guys from Brisbane do deliver. Fresh from a gig the previous night at the Jubilee in Brisbane, Desolution brought the old-school metal, conjuring the sounds of old Metallica, Pantera, and a touch of thrash. The dual guitar attack and the heaving rhythm section, along with the full-on shouty vocals forced some good ol’ metal into your skull.

Their second last song of the set was epic. Easily the highlight, the song brought some War of the Worlds (the old Double CD soundtrack) style riffs and molding them into a brutal, spacey sounding track.

Last up were locals, Inhaled. Admittedly I only got to see a few songs of their set (as I was absolutely fucked from the happenings on the weekend), but what I did see was some sick lead work on the guitars, a pounding rhythm section and the usual high scream/low growl present in modern metal/hardcore style bands. These guys had the thrashy/hardcore sound down pat, giving a nod to influences like Parkway Drive (I hate comparing bands to Parkway as it feels like a cop-out, but they honestly had some Parkway elements to their sound, along with more technical metal like Protest the Hero).

A pretty damn good way to kick off Live @ The Rolling Rock, and big ups to Mic from MIA Entertainment for having to swim through a lot of shit and ordeals, and still coming up with the goods.

Support this night of live music, guys.

Rooster.
