Social Anger
We arrived at Club Envy shortly after 9pm, just as Social Anger were packing up from their set. Sorry we missed you guys (but I have seen you before, andyou guys rock! Old School Metal with a modern punk/hardcore feel. Lots of attitude and a great, entertaining front man who isn't afraid to engage with the audience. I'm sure you killed it).
Embrace Eternity
I've played with these guys before and watched them on several occasions. If I was to put them into a category of music, it would be what Iron Maiden would be if they started out today. Lots of melodic guitar harmonies over a bed of driving bass and drum rhythms with a charismatic and entertaining vocalist. EEs songs are powerful and inventive and have an original modern tone about them that is quietly addictive. The guys had had a very busy day. They just played a show in Brisbane, then drove up to the Sunshine Coast for this gig. They looked a bit pooped, but were still enthusiastic and energetic. Nice one fellas, and thanks for the CD and t-shirt ;)
Inhailed
Well the day finally arrived for Inhailed to launch their long awaited debut album - Bled to Life. With a brand new look and the tightness of a practiced working band, these guys tore up the stage with their gut wrenching brutal sound. The incredible drumming of Langley, Justins fat round bass tone and Wez and Bens grinding guitar tones blasted forth a sound that could only be comparable to being gutted alive with a chainsaw. And then, after all that, being humiliated lying in a red pulpy mess by the brutal shockwaves of vocal madness from Des. The CD, along with brand new t-shirts and hoodies sporting the new (and very cool) Inhailed artwork seemed to be selling pretty well. Good luck with it all guys, you sounded great. Onwards and upwards!
Sagacity
Up from Newcastle, these guys were a very pleasant surprise. A standard 4 piece metal outfit - drums, bass, 2 gtrs - Sagacity had, once again a slightly old school, Metallica sound about them. Classic riffing style and no frills vox. Good old chugga chug metal. Oh and the vocalist had the longest dreads I think I've ever seen on anyone!!! Awesome stuff guys!
Messiam
Well, what do I say about these fellas. A solid sounding 4 piece that has some very original songs. Original heavy grooves and vocals that aren't afraid to venture away from what is considered the norm in metal. Death metal growls, rapping, hard rock wailing along with awesome riffage that utilises inventive techniques and experimental sounds, Messiam could be a bit of a force to be reckoned with if they keep it up. Great set fellas, entertaining and a whole lot of fun.
