Circle of Sounds Open Mic Night featuring The Flumes, Chicken Joe & more, @ Club Envy, July 21 |
|
Rolling in to Envy on this fine wednesday night, I am (again) confronted with "Chicken Joe". This guy seems to be popping up everywhere....but that's a good thing. His voice is amazing, and he can play some serious guitar. Joe admits to having a rough week, due to splitting up with his girl, but manages to use his emotion to put on an awesome performance. His use of effects pedals, and a stompbox, makes for a seeriously layered sound for just one guy. "It's too late", is the highlight for me, as his voice really shines in this track. Joe is one seriously talented muso, and his relaxed, casual attitude on stage, makes hi9m all the more enjoyable.
I get dragged outside for a D and M with some drunk guy, and before I know it, The Flumes are on. This is one very unique band, with Drums, percusssion, bass, a bit of guitar, and harp.....yep.....harp. Their folk sound really makes me pine for woodford, and the crowd absolutely loves these guys. The bass player is constanly changing instruments between bass, guitar, and melodia - the drummer is playing rock beats one minute, and reggae beats the next - and Kayt's harp skills are amazing. All this combined makes for a seriously entertaining show. Had a chat to them afterwards, and they have some awesome shows on the way, like Island vibe, so go and treat yourself to something new and fresh.....loooovvveee The Flumes.
I'd like to thank all the artists who come down on wednesday nights to Envy also.....their creativity seems to inspire the musicians, and vice versa. We were priviledged to witness Bob Gammage doing live art on this night, and this dude is the master of live art. Music and art combined, makes for an awesome mid week weekend, so get down to envy next wednesday night, and tell support our local muso's and artists....
