The Floating Bridges, Fire

So, I’ve had this EP in my possession for over a week now, and honestly, it has been one of the most played CDs at my place in that time.

Being Editor of The Point gives me an advantage sometimes to discover bands before everyone else does. I’ve been a huge supporter ever since they came onto the stage.

Their first EP, though good, was lacking the energetic punch The Floating Bridges have become known for. The music was their, but the vibe really just wasn’t.

However, the new EP, Fire, is a massive leap forward. They’ve chosen some of their strongest songs (though they now do have some more material that’s pushing their limits further), and compiled them into a spitfire mix of good time, shake-yer-butt tunes.

Kicking off with Funky Sally, bassist Rohan’s fat grooves set the mood and it’s like opening up a can of compressed rainbow. Breathe in the notes, listen to the melodies, and I dare you to resist moving around.

If the first track doesn’t grab your attention (I’ll be struggling to know why), then the title track of the EP will be sure to have you lifting your legs as high as possible and convulsing to this ode to the holy herb.

The other tracks, such as Spanish Split, Changes and Stand Up are all strong, impulsively danceable tracks utilising the full extent of The Floating Bridges’ arsenal.

The production of the CD, thanks to Brian Goodworth is full, but still able to keep some of that earthiness the Bridges’ demonstrate live.

Heed these words - Go see The Floating Bridges live, buy the EP, hug the boys and know that you’ve just experienced something life changing. Honest to god, I know I have.

Rooster.
