Just been tinkering with the look for The Point's site. As you can see, we are now working in conjunction with Tsunami Magazine, so support the local street press. Both The Point and Tsunami aim to support the local music scene, so get behind those who bring you the local music news.
Planning has started on the first The Point party coming up, but it's all classified information at this stage.
Huge All Ages gig coming up on Sunday with Blessed By a Broken Heart, Shadows Chasing Ghosts, Mourning Tide, Wingspan, Panda Panda Panda, & Forever March. So, if you like your stuff heavy (and half local), then head down to the Black Box in Nambour. Tickets are $20 and doors open 2pm. The Marsden Lees are playing at Uni Night at the Sands tomorrow night, then supporting Drawcard and Violent Flames at the Kings Beach Tavern on Friday night (entry to that is FREE).
Podcast will be up and running tomorrow night after a week's break.
28/09/09 RUMOUR HAS IT: That a certain well-known Coast metal act could possibly be working with a prominent Coast producer for their next recording. The Point will follow this up and get some verification. If it is, indeed, true, this will make for a very exciting release. Technical Symplicity guitarist, (and one of The Point's brain-trusts) Rohan Nitschke will be doing his solo thing at the Music Kafe in Brisbane's West End on October 5th (that's a Monday night). Good luck, mate!
Man, those Floating Bridges boys have been busy, securing a very healthy residence at the Music Kafe as well. Their debut EP has been mastered, and early reports are that it features some very tasty sounds. The Marsden Lees are playing Uni Night at the Sands Tavern this Thursday night, plus DJ MontyG.

U-Tribe Festival is on today in Conondale.

Sounds of Spring on today, but chances are most of you already know this and are on your way there.
Apparently the Children Collide/The Scare show at the Sands Tavern on Thursday night was huge. Good work Sunshine Coast.
Last night's Dead Letter Circus/Sydonia/Technical Symplicity was a great testimony to how much we love our local music. A strong 200+ crowd turned up for last night's show. Review of the show will be up later today.
Tonight Panda Panda Panda & Tomb of Doom play with Lysergic, The Lytic Cycle and Giger at the Sands Tavern.
While on holidays in Sydney, The Point caught up with ex-Coast DJ, Ryzer, so be sure to tune in to this week's podcast as we have a pretty interesting interview with Ryzer coming up.
22/09/09
Don't forget this week is a big week of gigs, capping off with Sounds of Spring (Melodyssey, The Scare, and Dead Letter Circus are all appearing), but if you've been unlucky in getting tickets to that, then the Sands Tavern has a rough and tumble night of metal on Saturday night from 7pm. Panda Panda Panda & Tomb of Domb play with Lysergic, The Lytic Cycle and Giger for $12.
The Point is now going on holidays, so there will be no news updates until Saturday. Keep sending in your profiles, gig listings, and news though, as I will get to put them up on the weekend. Don't miss this week's massive line-up of gigs, and I will hopefully see a lot of you at the Dead Letter Circus/Sydonia/Technical Symplicity show on Friday night.
Week 3

It's coming up to busy season for bands, with a lot more gigs & festivals approaching, so now's the time to hone in on those PR skills. The FoxPR blog can help you with that, so have a read at some of the entries here, then look at examples of band press releases here & here.

Also, they will be providing a new rockband mentoring program at the start of the new year for the next generation of Sunshine Coast rockstars, as well as a Weekend Warrior program for the older muso's. Head down to Shake It Up and talk to them about it now.

09/09/09 UPDATE: The Point Podcast is now up featuring Dunsinane and Morning Gloree.
Interesting day today, as the world celebrates Nine Nine Nine (09/09/09 - or as the Germans would translate to the No day...No No No). This week's podcast should be up tonight and we will be checking out some fresh new talent on the Coast. Pine Cone Throat apologises to his loyal followers for no video this month, as the lad's been busy with all this Dead Kelly material that keeps coming out. The Point will try and catch up with him soon to at least answer some of the questions we've been getting in the emails. There is some very big news coming soon from the Dead Kelly camp, but we'll leave that to Pine Cone Throat to release. Meat Snorkel will be playing their 2nd last show of the year at the Gold Coast this Friday night. These guys have had a very busy year. Dead Letter Circus released The Space On the Wall on iTunes last Friday, so if you haven't bought and downloaded a copy yet, do so now!

The Woombye Pub has cancelled this Thursday's Hell City Glamour gig (which The Vagrant City Scandal were on as well), as they are wanting to cut back on live music. Boo, Woombye Pub, boo. The Point has decided to accept any and all fan photos that anyone wants to put up of their favourite Sunshine Coast bands. Please email them to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au and we'll put them up on their own page.

Happy Father's Day to all those Sunshine Coast musicians that are Dads, Grandads, or Dads-to-be. Pass that musical knowledge onto your kids to keep the talent on the Sunshine Coast rockin.
Also, Happy Birthday to Kelly, one of The Point's international followers.
There's a new review up now of the Grand Atlantic/The Vagrant City Scandal/The Marsden Lees show last Friday night.
05/09/09

Former Sunshine Coast DJ, Ryzer has been announced as one of the acts at this year's Earthdance in Sydney at the end of the month. Over the past decade Earthdance has become renowned around the world as a celebration of cultural diversity, music and the arts. Since launching in Sydney in 2004 the popularity of Earthdance has increased rapidly, with a huge attendance of 40,000+ people making last year the biggest Sydney Earthdance yet. This year we expect an equally large turnout, and with Prince Alfred Park a limited capacity venue we recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment. For those that missed Meat Snorkel play with Shanghai at the Sands last month...here's a bit of brilliance for you.
03/09/09
The Point podcast for this week may be delayed for a few days.
Don't forget to check out The Vagrant City Scandal and The Marsden Lees as they support Grand Atlantic tomorrow night at the Sands Tavern, from 7pm.
If you happen to be in Brisbane this weekend, go support Dunsinane at Bar 388 in the Valley. They'll be performing a showcase, so the more support the better.
02/09/09 Tranzluzid, Dunsinane and Temple Mount hit the Kings Beach Tavern on Friday, September 18. You can catch them for FREE from 7.30pm.
01/09/09
