31/10/10
Happy Halloween, folks (even though it's not really an Aussie thing).
Big news is that, unfortunately, the MIA Entertainment and The Point Xmas party due on November 27th (with a massive line-up of bands) has been cancelled. Big bummer, that, but these things happen.
A whole heap of Live@Joe's gigs have been added to the Gigs page. Plenty more big acts coming in the next month. Technical Symplicity have announced a reunion show, with Rohan back on guitar, when they support Dead Letter Circus and Helm on January 21st. There's even rumours of new songs being thrown in.
Two big, heavy gigs coming up this week at Club Envy with End of Chivalry's album launch on the Friday night, with supports Shotgun Halo, Seven Skies and Locavore. Then on Saturday night, heavyweights 4ARM hit the Coast with Shadowmill, Inhailed and Messiam. Both shows start at 7pm on respective nights, and both at $15 entry.
The 4ARM show will be followed up by an All Ages show at the Black Box in Nambour on the Sunday with Shadowmill, Idle Theory, and Social Anger, from 5pm for $15. Rob Stanley has coughed up the goods, offering a free download of his album 'The Doorway in the Darkness' plus a free bonus track 'The Awesome Infi' from Reverbnation.com. This is for Halloween only, so if you don't have his album, then take advantage of this opportunity.

A load of blues tonight.
Head to Hotel Maroochydore from 7.30pm to catch Hayley the Dreadlocked Cowboy, Those Old Soles, and Cleveland Blues and the Red Eye Junction for FREE.
Caloundra folk, get down to Forty Five 51 for a good feed and some live local blues as well.
Just in... you may or may not know that Dead Letter Circus will finally be back on the Coast in January, playing the Villa Noosa on the 21st with Helm, but it also appears they've managed to drag Technical Symplicity out of hiatus to play one of the supports. Tickets should be available from the venue, or from oztix.com. Hypa Hip Hop Festival is on this weekend. Check out their facebook page for all the info. If you love your hip hop, then definitely check out this event at the Lake Kawana Community Centre.
27/10/10
Tomorrow night at Hotel Maroochydore for Alternative Night, catch Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, Hayley the Dreadlocked Cowboy, and Those Old Soles... FOR FREE. 7.30pm start for a night a nu-blues and grooves.
For those that didn't already know, but Charlie (drummer from Tranzluzid) is now a part of the mighty Minor Elite crew. Nice choice! Messiam are getting ready for a big show coming up soon with touring act 4ARM, thanks to MIA Entertainment. Details up on the Gigs page.
The great Sir Shreddington himself, Mr Rob Stanley has provided a pretty cool downloadable gift. You can download the whole 'Doorway in the Darkness' album now from Reverbnation, with the bonus track The Awesome Infi as well! This will happen on Halloween only (umm.. October 31st, if you weren't sure). Click here and bookmark this page.

Happy Birthday to Miss Karleena... MC extraordinaire.
Tuesdays... such a crappy, nothing day. But, not long now until we're on the way up to the weekend.
Looks like Rivalry are tempting folks with a new track. Keep an eye on their Facebook and their Triple J Unearthed page for details. Locavore have been announced as the second local support for the Electric Horse show on December 3rd at Kings Beach Tavern. They'll be joining Engine 37 and Drawcard.
Rumour has it that a recently rested band could very well be making a brief comeback for an ultra-special gig in January. Who will it be? No Mercy Marg have put up some more dates for the upcoming months. Check the Gigs page to find out where to see these guys in action.
This Friday night at Kings Beach Tavern, Mayan Fox will be launching their CD, 'Outfoxed', with special guests Rob Longstaff and Mojoe. Starts at 7.30pm, and it's $10 on the door (or $20 includind a copy of 'Outfoxed').
25/10/10
Another week, another load of music coming our way.
Happy Birthday to Emily Thompson. We're still waiting for that EP, Em.
Here at The Point we've had a few EPs dropped in our laps, so we'll get around to reviewing them soon enough. Coming soon will be the long awaited review of Messiam's first offering, The Marsden Lee's 'Vices', music from Dunsinane, and contributor E will be finishing up her thoughts of The Greenroom's CD.
Nu-blues is coming your way this Thursday night, when Those Old Soles return, and even better on the same line-up will be Cleveland Blues and the Red Eye Junction. All that, FOR FREE this Thursday at Hotel Maroochydore from 7.30pm.
Saw a sneak peak at the line-up for Peregian Originals on November 7th. Tijuana Cartel, anyone?
The lovely Jen Mize has been featured on a podcast with other artists. Check it out here. Kindread have been pretty damn busy. The group will be playing the Noosa Triathalon this Sunday at 12pm in the Woodlands. Also, they've just announced a very cool show at Brisbane's The Joynt (in West End) with Cheap Fakes. This will be on November 12th from 9.30pm.
The Floating Bridges have had a massive few weeks, and it's only going to get more busy for them. They have a CD launch coming up at Kings Beach Tavern on November 12th, with guests The Greenroom, as well as Those Old Soles. This will be a good chance to get your hands on a copy of their EP, 'Fire', if you haven't done so already. Want to know what we thought? Review is up on the Reviews page. *Note from the Editor - just wanted to extend my gratitude towards The Floating Bridges, manager Mikey, and the extended Bridges family for having me on board for an awesome journey, filling in on Bass while Rohan's trekking around New Zealand. It's been a blast!
23/10/10
The Point was out reviewing last night. What did we get up to? Read it on our blog.
Tonight, Club Envy is going to be brutalised by a double Album Launch, thanks to MIA Entertainment. Tonight, from 7.30pm catch Born from the Ashes (Album Launch), Never Plead Guilty (CD Launch), Seven Skies, Soothsayer, and local boys Idle Theory. Can Idle Theory's Adam overcome a shithouse case of the flu to belt out his roar? Guess you'll have to go along and see for yourself.
If you're more in the mood to dance the night away, the legendary Bump Crew have The Bump DJs spinning some funky house at Soave Bar in Mooloolaba tonight - that's the old Zachary's bar/restaurant (egZachary!). Head down and show your support for this guys, as they've had a shit week dealing with the whole shamozzle of the venue up in Noosaville. They've got a hell of a lot of publicity out of it though, so nice work.
Nambour Originals is on tomorrow (assuming the weather stays as brilliant as it is). Tomorrow, for free, from 1pm catch All Strings Attached, Rob Longstaff, Jabiru, and blues legend Barry Charles. Support this event guys. Just as good as Peregian Originals.
Rumour has it that there's rumblings of a new open mic night happening in a prominent Coast town coming very soon. More on that when I hear from the organisers.
22/10/10
What's doing tonight Sunshine Coast?
The Point is heading out to catch 2 shows tonight - Club Envy has a smattering of rock on offer with touring act Stone Parade coming to the Coast. These guys have been getting a fair bit of airplay on Landed TV. MIA Entertainment has organised some tasty support bands for them as well, with the likes of The Vagrant City Scandal, The Marsden Lees, and Morning Gloree. Doors at 7.30pm and it's $15.
Down the southern end of the Coast at Kings Beach Tavern, there's a massive night of stompin' blues to be had with Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, back from a kick arse tour, bring their mates Transvaal Diamond Syndicate with them, plus 2 more acts. This starts at 8pm and is only $10.
We've done up a new blog in our spare time, so go check it out. Oz Music Month is happening next month, and we want all you Pointsters to get behind it, push yourselves, and do something just a little bit different. Read it by clicking on the big blue W above. Miss Karleena (MC extraordinaire who has worked with The Outlook with Mr Boinkin) is really getting behind pushing the Sunshine Coast Hip Hop scene. There's a huge amount of talent on the Coast, and we've got a massive night of Hip Hop coming on November 13 at Kings Beach Tavern with a touring MC coming from the States. Check the video below for more information.
Week 2
21/10/10
Big night on Saturday night with a show at Club Envy, but also, the legendary Bump Crew bring Bumpin Nights to Mooloolaba. The DJs will be playing their funky house sounds at Soave Bar on Brisbane Rd from 9pm. The Bump Crew were also on TV last night, trying to get awareness for the hard work they've been putting into getting a new venue happening in Noosaville. Go friend them on Facebook, then watch the clip. The Flumes play tonight at Alternative Night at Hotel Maroochydore from 8pm tonight, for free.
Club Envy is offering up some more talent for Uni Night tonight, with Sydney's Only the Sea Slugs offering up their Hip Hop/Progressive Rock sound for free, with local support.
Don't forget, Kings Beach Tavern have Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction and Transvaal Diamond Syndicate tomorrow, and Club Envy has touring act Stone Parade, with supports The Vagrant City Scandal, The Marsden Lees, and Morning Gloree from 7pm.
20/10/10
Quick one tonight.
Warm up with some juicy dub at Club Envy tonight with The Red Eyes and Kindread. $15 at the door and it starts at 7.30/8ish. Should be a good mid-week music romp.
There's a review now up on a different site/blog of Locavore's performance at Club Envy last Saturday night. Unfortunately, The Point was elsewhere, but we have eyes and ears all over this place. Big thanks to the Live Artists' crew for this very cool read. Check it out here.
Big BIG BIIIIIG Friday night coming up for The Point as we try to check out 2 gigs in one night. Starting with Stone Parade's show at Club Envy, featuring supports The Vagrant City Scandal, The Marsden Lees, and Morning Gloree.
From there, we'll be heading down to the Kings Beach Tavern to check out Cleveland Blues and the Red Eye Junction, and our favourite Bris Blues duo, Transvaal Diamond Syndicate. Huge sounds out of those two bands that will get you stompin and groovin' all night.
19/10/10
The Red Eyes tomorrow night at Club Envy with Kindread. Both bands bringing the dub, so if you're already having a heavy week, then go to this gig and let it all out. The Flumes will be playing Alternative Night this week at Hotel Maroochydore, for free, from 8pm. If you still haven't seen this amazing three-piece, this is a good way to introduce your ears to the etheral sounds The Flumes put out.
There's a massive double album launch on this Saturday night, thanks to MIA Entertainment, with guests Born from the Ashes and Never Plead Guilty both launching their releases on the night, with support from Seven Skies, Soothsayer and Idle Theory.
Don't forget the massive The Point/MIA Entertainment X-mas party on November 27th with a tonne of bands playing form 6pm till 3am. Full list on the Gigs page.
Heard some great feedback from the creative minds of I Am Perfectly Calm. Main man TimFairless has noticed a large spike in listens/downloads of the track 'Orbit', so thanks guys for taking The Point's word. We do know there's some more music out there from this project, so we're waiting to hear it to pass it on to you. In the meantime, if you missed it, you can listen to 'Orbit', featuring vocals by Elisha Sando, here. The Secret Whisper have been quiet of late, but there's good reason, as they're down in Sydney recording their first EP with producer Sonny Truelove. If you're a fan of the band, they have video updates happening on their Facebook page.
Another good example of a Coastie made good, though by having to leave this place. Jacob Hicks is in a band called Re:Enactment, who have been getting high rotation on the J's. We here at The Point reckong they've got a bit of a Hot Chip vibe cranking. Hopefully they'll be heading our way soon, but in the meantime, check out their filmclip.
18/10/10
That was a pretty full-on weekend from The Point's perspective.
This Wednesday night, Club Envy plays host to the mighty Red Eyes. Such big fat dubby goodness coming up to the Coast mid-week with Kindread supporting. Tickets are $15 ($12 pre-sold) and doors open at 7pm. It's been a while, but Those Old Soles will be back in action on October 28th when they play Alternative Night at Hotel Maroochydore with Cleveland Blues. Now, THAT, should be a groovin, foot stompin' free show from 8pm.
16/10/10
Big thanks to those that came out to support the Lions Aid & Relief fundraiser at Club Envy last night. Bit of a disappointing turn out, but to those that did come, your support was greatly appreciated, plus you got to see some very cool bands working for a cause.
Sunshine Roots tonight at Coolum Beach Hotel, featuring Young Tree, Jabiru, Heart Tribe, and in2nation. Should be a very groove-filled night. The Floating Bridges are heading down to Brisbane to be a part of Oktoberfest celebrations this afternoon, and The Point will be going along for the ride.
Tonight at Club Envy, catch Novocaines (getting serious airplay on the J's at the moment), The Foreign Objects, Fangs, and local supports Templemount and Locavore. Doors at 7.30pm and it's $15. Good healthy dose of rock tonight. The Kombi Killers, Myrtle Place and more are playing the Prince of Wales Hotel tonight, if you're after some punk.
Holy crap, Kings Beach Tavern have pulled out a trump card with the line-up of bands/acts coming your way in the coming months. Go check the Gigs page for details, but we can tell you that The Floating Bridges/Those Old Soles/Green Room show will be a killer, as well as the the Oct 22 Cleveland Blues/Transvaal Diamond Syndicate show, but even better, there's a huge night of hip hop coming (featuring one of the guys from Jurassic 5... holy sh*t!), as well as The Dreamkillers, The Red Shore, Electric Horse and more.
Don't forget, Peregian Originals tomorrow afternoon, featuring The Deckchairs and more. Usual time, and hopefully the rain's gone.
Oh, and looks like we've returned to the world of blogging too. Finally, there's a new one up. Just click on the big blue W, or if you're lazy, click here.
13/10/10
Alternative Night at Hotel Maroochydore tomorrow night. All the free music is starting to funnel into this venue now. Tomorrow catch Ryan Toohey, the Carl Lynch Duo, and Diamond Trade from 7.30pm.

Sunshine Roots this Saturday night at Coolum Beach Hotel, featuring Young Tree, Jabiru (whom we've been told are totally amazing to watch), Heart Tribe, and a rare performance from in2nation. It's $15 on the door ($12 pre-sold).
There's a new hip hop event happening on the Coast on October 30th at Lake Kawana Community Centre. $10 gets you a whole heap of amazing local artists, dancers, b-boys, and beatboxers. This needs the local support, so if you love your Hip Hop culture and want to see it thrive on the Sunshine Coast, support the HYPA Hip Hop Festival.
DJ Ryzer makes a welcome return to the Sunshine Coast this Friday night when he plays The Volt Old School Reunion at 240V with Burntables, Nero and Jelus.

Don't forget, The Point is urging on the Sunshine Coast Music Community to rally together and support the Lions Aid & Relief fundraiser at Club Envy this Friday night. MIA Entertainment is bringing together a whole heap of talent, including Lending Her, The Intrepids, and The Floating Bridges (with the Editor on Bass filling in for Rohan who will be in NZ). It starts at 7pm at $15
This little video came to our attention earlier today. Here at The Point, we dig those Rivalry boys, so if you still haven't had the chance to see them, here's some footage of them at Club Envy.
11/10/10
Congratulations to the organisers of the Caloundra Music Festival for persisting through this shithouse weather. Well done!
Alright Pointsters... here's the callout -
If you're not already aware, there's a big fundraiser show on THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at Club Envy. MIA Entertainment have organised their contacts and put together a massive show to help out the Lions Aid & Relief fund. It's a hugely worthy cause, and there'll be plenty of stuff happening on the night (including a documentary being filmed for worldwide release), so what we here at The Point are asking, is for the Sunshine Coast Music Community to band together and support this. Playing on the night will be The Intrepids, Lending Her, and The Floating Bridges (featuring the Editor filling in on Bass for Rohan, who will be over in NZ). Plenty of other entertainment happening on the night, so come to this, support the cause and get into the bands! Doors open at 7pm, and it's $15 to get in, but remember, it's for a hugely worthy cause. C'mon Sunshine Coast, support it.
09/10/10
Sounds like though last night was a big wet one, the Caloundra Music Festival still managed to go off. Word from The Point and The Floating Bridges' Rohan was that the Bridges had a cracker of a gig at the Perle Bar (at the Kings Beach Tavern), then they headed off into the rain to catch Powderfinger's set.
Tomorrow, if the weather is kind to us, sees the second Nambour Originals at Quota Park. The first one was amazing, and hopefully, this one will be too (hell, here at The Point HQ, we have a print of local artist Bob Gammage's work depicting the goings on of last Nambour Originals' lineup - we love it). This Sunday, catch THE Kim Churchill (holy crap on a cracker!), the lovely Jen Mize, All Strings Attached, and some fantastic youth doing their thing as well. Starts at 1pm. Don't park at the RSL, please.
Speaking of Jen Mize, we've finally got around to reviewing her EP. It's a damn fine offering, so go pick one up tomorrow. Want to know what we think? Well, read the review.
This coming Friday night, MIA Entertainment have put together an awesome line-up of bands at Club Envy to raise funds for the Lions Aid & Relief. Very worth cause. $15 with doors at 7pm. Catch the likes of The Intrepids, Lending Her, and The Floating Bridges (with the Editor on Bass, filling in for Rohan who's taking off overseas for a few weeks). Don't miss it.
The Point will be heading out afterwards to 240V to catch the return of our good mate, Ryzer, doing a DJ set with Burntables, Nero and Jelus. It's OLD SCHOOL.
Sunshine Roots is also on this coming Saturday Oct 16th. Another groove-fueled offering from the geniuses that bring you the Drop the Junk series. This one will feature Young Tree, Jabiru, Heart Tribe and a very rare performance from in2nation! $15 on the door.
08/10/10
The weekend is here and the weather gods have decided to mess with our heads. Regardless, hopefully those at the Caloundra Music Festival enjoy themselves in the mud.
If you're not at the CMF, then head out to see Take Anthia tonight at Club Envy, with Dead Riot and Isaac Graham. This will be one of the last shows for Take Anthia, so if you haven't caught this band yet, definitely check them out.
The Point hung out with The Floating Bridges last night, and the boys are amped with their 7.30 slot tonight at CMF, (they'll be playing at Kings Beach Tavern). Rivalry and Birds of Prey play tomorrow night with Camels of Croatia at the Price St Hall in Nambour. Starting at 7pm, this is an All Ages Event and is $10.
The Point likes to bring new music created by Sunshine Coast artists to your attention, and we highly recommend you check this one out. I Am Perfectly Calm is a project with heavy electronic influences. Featuring the talents of Tim Fairless and Elisha Sando, check out the track 'Orbit' which is now up on Triple J's Unearthed, and also available for download here. We here at The Point are digging this, and again, proves the diversity of talent and influences the Sunshine Coast can produce.
Week 1
06/10/10
Tomorrow night at Hotel Maroochydore, catch Billy Thorpe Scholarship recipient Andrew Redford from 8pm for free.
Welcome home to Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction. These guys have been up, down and all around, and now home for a bit. You can catch them at a few shows, including one on the 28th of October with Those Old Soles at Hotel Maroochydore from 8pm. Take Anthia are prepping to shred Club Envy this Friday night with Dead Riot and Isaac Graham. Doors from 7pm.
Coming on the 20th of October, the mighty Red Eyes will be headlining at Club Envy, with locals Kindread. Should be a massive night of fat grooves.
One of The Point's picks to watch, Lending Her are now up on Triple J Unearthed. Go listen/download/rate their track 'Lifeline' here. Rob Stanley's new track, The Awesome Infi (which is part of a follow-up to his debut, The Doorway in the Darkness) is now up on iTunes. Definitely go get that one, chocful of tasty licks and riffs. Minor Elite are looking for a new drummer. Think you have what it takes? Email them at wademclayton@hotmail.com for more info.
The editor has finally got his act together and reviewed a new CD. The Floating Bridges' new EP, 'Fire' gets the full Point treatment. What did he think? Go to the Reviews page to check it out.
04/10/10
Special happy birthday to one of the littlest members of The Point family - Isabella.
Well, sounds like that was a pretty big weekend of music just gone. The Point caught up with Ash from Lending Her who was stoked on the gig last Friday night at Kings Beach Tavern, but even more stoked on Rivalry's performance.
Heard that Inhailed's CD Launch went brutally well, so we'll have to get our hands on a copy of that CD and review it.
Meanwhile, the Editor of The Point got thrown in the deep end with The Floating Bridges, filling in on bass for a few songs on Saturday night.
The 2nd Nambour Originals is coming up this Sunday, with another stella line-up. Sunshine Coast, get in and support this event, both in spirit and financially. The last one was phenomenal, and we here at The Point believe it will just keep getting better.
Caloundra Music Festival is nearly here. Those that got tickets for Friday, well, good on you. For those that missed out, there's still a whole heap of talent on show on Saturday and Sunday.
There's a review now up of Inhailed's CD launch, courtesy of Mr Rob Stanley. Go have a read on the Reviews page.
Scouting around the interwebs, there's a pretty amusing blog up from Duca from Live Artists on Saturday night's High Tide on the Harbour thanks to the Bump Crew. Click here to read it. Take Anthia are heading back to Club Envy this Friday night with Dead Right and Isaac Graham. *Note from the Editor
Just an apology for a mistake I made. Last week we wrongly publicised the High Tide on the Harbour Party organised by the Bump Crew as a free event. It wasn't. It was actually $15 per head. Sorry if this caused confusion, and apologies to the Bump Crew. I know that they had 350 payers that night, so that's awesome.
01/10/10
Get into the musical feast that's being served up this weekend, Pointsters.
The Point's favourite little indie band that could, Rivalry are playing with Lending Her tonight at Kings Beach Tavern. Both bands blow our minds everytime we see them, so we recommend you check them out. Doors from 8pm.
If you've been hanging for some tasty Hip Hop, then Club Envy (with new sound system and new lights...yay!!) will light up your musical tastebuds with some deep down, funky Aussie Hip Hop tonight. Doors from 7pm and it's $10. Chose Mics "Beggars Cant Be Touring" with Syntax, Seven & Deejay Butcher, and Azov. Feel the beat.
Get your roots on tomorrow night at Noosa Marina when the awesome Bump Crew bring you free music from 7pm till 11pm with Cheap Fakes (oh god, yes), One Love and The Bump DJs.
If you've been fanging for some metal, never fear, Inhailed are launching their CD at Club Envy tomorrow night with support from NSW band Sagacity, as well as Embrace Eternity and Social Anger. This is another awesome MIA Entertainment event. Doors from 7pm and it's $15.
Diamond Nights tonight. Hardcore fans rejoice. These things always go off, and tonight's no different with Mourning Tide returning to the Coast, with Wish for Wings, Grace is Gone and Abraxis. Doors from 9pm.
There's a couple of big AA gigs happening this weekend too, for you under 18's to let off some pent-up energy.
Just check the Gigs Page, kids.
And of course, Peregian Originals on this Sunday, with Cheap Fakes and more. You'll be buggered after this weekend, but trust us, it will be worth it.
Also, those who are a tad disappointed about no more Circle of Sounds open mics... never fear, The Point has intel that a similar-style of weekly event will be coming back. Stay tuned, and support it, ok?
