November 2009

Week 4

30/11/09
Thanks to those that came out and supported Live@The Rolling Rock in Noosa last night. Not the best turnout, so we really need to get behind this frequent event if you want more diversity in venues on the Coast. Should be a review up in the next few days.
Pine Cone Throat is BACK! New footage has been uploaded to his page, so head on over and see what he got up to at The Point Party. He also told me today that there will be another interview up shortly, so stay tuned.
Heavy -hitters Signal The Firing Squad, along with All My Friends At Sea will be supporting Grace is Gone when they launch their new album at The Sands on Dec 19th. This is a FREE show.

29/11/09
A little worse for wear today. The Point Party was a great success. Big thank you to the bands that came and mingled and showed that singer/songwriters could mix it up with hard rockers, bluesmen etc. Rob Stanley's performance was nothing short of phenomenal (during his epic Green Surf, I looked around and saw many jaws on the floor), Emily Thompson was beautiful and her voice even more so, Tranzluzid impressed many with a very solid acoustic set, Rohan Nitschke got his blues on and everyone toe-tappin', and Technical Symplicity decided to push themselves and play brand new songs acoustically, to great support. Bummer about The Floating Bridges (who had to miss out due to their show in Brisbane being pushed back), and a scheduling conflict with Dunsinane. Pine Cone Throat did what he does best, and rest assured, the man is back, so we'll have some more interviews soon.
Congratulations to Tranzluzid, who thanks to the legendary team at Shake It Up Music in Nambour, walked away with a $100 Gift Voucher to spend in the store.
Footage of the night will be up over the next few weeks.
Don't forget, tonight at The Rolling Rock, Technical Symplicity, Meat Snorkel and Brisbane's The C*nt Offensive for $5. Kicking off with Tec Sym at 7pm.
Next weekend is big for music on the Sunshine Coast. THE Suicidal Tendancies (yes THAT legendary surf punk band) are playing the Kings Beach Tavern on Sat Dec 5th. HOLY SH*T. According to sources, Mad Mike Muir actually lives on the Coast (if you don't know who Mike Muir is, google him, the dude is an absolute music legend).
Ol' Nambour Town has had a multi-million dollar facelift, and given that I'm a resident of 'Nam, The Point is very impressed with what the council has done. To celebrate the ol' Sugar Town's new look, there will be a big concert in the new centre (where the kooky old toilet block used to be), with The Black Sorrows, Dan England and more.
Technical Symplicity very rarely do parties, but as a favour to an old friend, will be donning the black and whites, going all masquerade and doing a 21st Birthday party with Brisbane and some-time Sunshine Coaster, A Mark Amongst Sounds.
The Rock Spectacular is happening at Pomona's Majestic Theatre, which is $10.
Meat Snorkel will be playing with a whole swag of bands at the Stepp Inn in Brisbane (they go on stage at 8.40pm). That will be $15.
And on the Sunday, Dec 6, the Off the Wall Fest is on at Beerwah Skate Park. This is a FREE event from 9am to 4pm and features Panda Panda Panda, Tomb of Doom, Autumn Heartache, and Another Level.

28/11/09
The Point Party today! Also, a great way to celebrate, The Point website has just averaged over 500 visits a month now, not bad for a little website, so for all those potential advertisers out there, there's possibly 500 people you could be reaching (nudge nudge wink wink).
The Floating Bridges are playing a mammoth show at the Music Kafe in Brisbane tonight, and also, a big happy birthday to Cale and Jimmy from the Bridges.
Adonis are playing at the Sands Tavern tonight, supporting Byron Bay's A Very Unique Existence.
Don't forget, Live@The Rolling Rock in Noosa tomorrow night at 7pm. $5 gets you Technical Symplicity, Meat Snorkel and The C*nt Offensive.
Rumour has it there may be a live music night starting soon in Nambour town in one of the prominent pubs. The Point will bring you more news on this as soon as we get the info.

Welcome to the new look, The Point website!
We thought the best way to celebrate 6 months of bringing you the local music news, gig listings, reviews and podcasts was to give the site a bit of a facelift. The layout of the site hasn't changed much, just more practical.
We've added a donations page to the site now, as some members of The Point would like to contribute back to the site. All donations can be done using Paypal, so it's all secure. The Point would like to thank Emma for her input, Rob Stanley for the awesome new logo design, and for all the bands that have supported the site from Day 1.
Will see most of you at The Point Party on Saturday!

27/11/09
Yes, we know we're a bit early with the update, but seeing as the site is coming down for some maintanence, we thought we'd get the news to you sooner.
Inside scoop - there has been a line-up change in Excruciate's ranks, with 2 members parting ways with the band, and former bassist, 'Frost Bitten Gibbings' has returned to the local goremetal legends. Very cool.
Panda Panda Panda have announced more dates, including one at The Rolling Rock, so those Live@TheRollingRock events happening more frequently now, so thumbs up to Mic at MIA Entertainment. Those new dates of Panda Panda Panda's will be up soon.
The Point Party is nigh (we're so excited, we think a little bit of wee just came out.)

26/11/09
The Point website will be down temporarily tomorrow night for some scheduled maintanence, but will be back online Saturday morning.
The Ailment have announced a show at the Sands Tavern on December 11 with State of East London, Three Faces West, Aversion Crown and more.
Big surprise instore in the next 48 hours, so be sure to keep checking the site.

Review for Rock for a Cure that happened last Saturday night is now up. If you weren't there, then go read to see what you missed.

22/11/09
The podcast will be delayed this week. Been busy organising The Point Party (6 DAYS TO GO!), and a few other bits and pieces, plus still recovering from the awesome gig at the Globe Theatre last night. Congratulations to Tomina for organising Rock for a Cure - it was a great night, awesome bands, and raised money for a worthy cause (proceeds from the event go to the Queensland sector of the Leukemia Foundation.

Week 3

20/11/09
The Circus is coming back to town! Dead Letter Circus are coming back to the Sands Tavern on December 10, and bringing their friends MM9 and Artic with them. Tickets are on sale now through Oztix.

19/11/09
Forever March have announced that they will be playing at Easterfest 2010, appearing with bands such as As I Lay Dying (Easterfest is a festival held in Toowoomba, basically a massive Christian Rock Festival). This is a big deal for the band, so well done guys.
Ablaze Withsin have a new singer. Don't know any more about it, but it will be interesting to see if this has changed the dynamics of their sound or not.

18/11/09
The Flumes have some dates coming up next month, with appearances at The Key Bar in Maroochydore (Dec 7th) and at Alternative night at The Grinning Dog in Maroochydore on Thursday Dec 10th (from8pm), so head on out to one of these shows and check out this very unique band. Well worth it.
Excruciate have some dates in the new year in Brisbane, one on Jan 8th, the other on Feb 5th. As soon as we get more details, we'll let you know.
10 Days till The Point Party

17/11/09

And on Sunday night, the first of (hopefully) many gigs at The Rolling Rock in Noosa, with Inhailed, Desolution, and Tranzluzid playing from 7pm. Doors are $5. Don't forget Shake It Up Music's huge sale tomorrow in Nambour from 9am to 5pm. Up to 85% off stock. That's SICK!.

Wingspan's new songs are apparently coming along nicely, and we've been told that they will be unleashing a new line-up, new myspace layout, new songs and more in one big hit, so stay tuned.
Local punks, Firedriver are hitting Club 299 on November 21st, so that's another gig happening on an already amped night full of music all over South East QLD.
The Rolling Rock's first night of local bands is happening this coming Sunday, the 15th of November in Noosa. Catch Inhailed, Desolution, and Tranzluzid, and SUPPORT what will hopefully be another great venue for live music on the Sunshine Coast. Lord knows, we need it. It's only $5 to get, so plenty of change for beer tickets. In the coming weeks you'll be able to catch Meat Snorkel, The C*nt Offensive and Technical Symplicity there.
Speaking of Technical Symplicity, those guys have been working hard on new tunes, with 3 brand newies that they'll be showcasing at the Rock for a Cure show on the 21st of November at The Globe Theatre.

08/11/09
The Point Vodcast will be up shortly. We go through latest music news, upcoming shows for the week, and we feature new additions to The Point, The Ailment and Firedriver. Go here to watch.

Week 1

07/11/09
Looks like November 21st is going to be a huge day of music for Sunshine Coast musicians, with The Black Box featuring Drawcard, Wingspan, Forever March (supporting Dangerous), which is All Ages, The Kings Beach Tavern as the Rocks n Roots Fiesta featuring many bands including The Blackwater Fever, and in Brisbane, Technical Symplicity join the line-up for the Rock for a Cure at The Globe. The Sands will also be hosting Defamer, The Day Everything Became Nothing (Vic), Daemon Foetal Harvest (NSW), Archaea and Vyrion from 8pm. Plenty of choice there, live music lovers.
The Point is a massive advocate of Sunshine Coast music, and Australian music in general, but noticed today that the abominable 'band' Short Stack are playing not one, but TWO gigs on the Coast in December, with tickets at $50 plus booking fee. WTF? Why?

05/11/09
The Point welcomes Firedriver to the databases. These guys have been around for a while now, and have had pretty awesome supports with some legendary Punk bands. You can check out their profile here (and while you're at it, download the track, 'One the Boarder').
Exciting news....a new venue (well, an old venue with a new attitude towards supporting local music) is putting on live bands. The Rolling Rock (yes...THE Rolling Rock) in Noosa is now putting on shows. Mic from M.I.A. Entertainment is looking for local bands of all genres to book for shows there, so if you're interested (and YOU SHOULD BE) contact Mic on 0415 776 920, and say that The Point sent ya. First show is on November 15 with Inhailed, Desolution, and Tranzluzid.
Heard Rohan Nitschke's demo for the track 'Monster' last night. Get your dirty blues on for it when he releases it onto Myspace. Hopefully, we'll have a live version for tomorrow night's Vidcast. Rumour has it that he may be changing his stage name too. More info on that as soon as we find out.

03/11/09
So...who backed a winner at the Melbourne Cup today? The Point did...muhahaha.
The Point welcomes deathcore/hardcore outfit, The Ailment, to the databases. The Point's been mentioning these guys quite often, and now we finally have their bio and mp3 up on the site, so go to their page and have a listen to their track, The Flood, off their EP Evolution. Speaking of The Ailment, Moshpit Music are now stocking their T-shirts, so if you dig their stuff, go grab one.

02/11/09
Due to requests, The Point has now implemented a Musicians Available/Wanted page for those that are wanting band members, or looking for bands to join. If any musician wants to advertise FOR FREE, send details (including name and contact details) to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au.
The Ailment have released their EP, which you can get for $5 from here. While you're there, grab a The Ailment tee too.
Rohan Nitschke and The Floating Bridges have announced some new dates on the Gigs page.

01/11/09
Looks like Halloween was a brutal night of music to be enjoyed by those that went to the Sands to see Excruciate, Archaea, Ablaze Withsin and more. Apparently about 160 heads through the door plus bands and guest lists, so a pretty damn good turnout. For those that missed it (like myself), I checked out a clip of Coast gore legends, Excruciate doing what they do best, and it looked pretty damn sick. Will try and get a copy up on The Point.
November is OZ MUSIC MONTH on the J's, so support your local (and National) artists!
November also marks the very first Artist of the Month, which will be featured on the main Bands page. Who will it be this week? Go check out who The Point picked.
