Week 4
31/05/10
Well, May has proven to be a magic month of music. Reflecting back there was a whole swagload of gigs on, which means there was plenty of live music to choose from and take in.
The Point welcomes The Minor Elite to the Band Database. These guys have been together for about a two years and they've just finished recording their album with Jonny (Mr Boinkin) Bundellu, and they're just starting to gig around Brisbane. Most importantly, today they've found out that their track, 'Wind Of Your Lips' has reached #1 on the Triple J Unearthed charts. You can check out their profile here.
While The Floating Bridges go on a brief hiatus (percussionist Adro is off trekking in Nepal), go get your Bridges fix at Triple J's Unearthed website where you'll find three new tracks (well, newly recorded). 'Spanish Split', 'Change' and 'Stand Up' are all there to listen/rate/review/download. Currently they're sitting at #19 on the JJJ Unearthed Roots charts, so let's all band together and get them up higher. This band has been working their arse off the last 18 months and deserve the recognition of Australia's national broadcaster. Go here to visit their page. The Flumes and Harri Bandhu (duo) will be playing at this week's Circle of Sound Open Mic night at Club Envy. $2 entry. Cheap as for mid-week entertainment and live art.
Thanks to the winners of the Bump Bush Bash double pass, we now have a review (more like an essay) of their experience at the event. Best that you grab a cuppa and sit down to read it, as it takes a bit, but it's a pretty cool read.
30/05/10
Wow, we've finally done another podcast. Better 5 months late, than never, we suppose. It's up on the Podcasts page.
Sounds like Ripe was a hell of a lot of fun, despite the mud. The Point's been informed that the bands could be heard a few km's away up the road. Nice!
Review is now up for The Strange Few/The Secret Whisper/Hayden Hack Infusion show at the Villa Noosa last Friday night. Go check it out in the Reviews section. Technical Symplicity have released a small sample of the demo to new track 'Lights of Blinding'. The boys are liking it that much that they've decided to do a film-clip for it once the mixing is complete. You can listen to the sample here.
Only a week left to RSVP to The Point Party if you haven't done so alread. Those bands/producers/promoters that received invitations and haven't RSVP'd, you have until this Saturday, June 5th.
Congratulations to Rivalry (formerly Gandalf the Grey) for taking out the band competition at the Maleny/Caloundra Show yesterday and pocketing $250. We do know there was some pretty stiff competition, so well done boys.
The Point welcomes Larriken to the Band Database. These guys have been around since '98. Go check out their profile and listen to their track 'Sh*tfaced'.
29/05/10
The Point hopes that all those at Ripe today are having a ball!
Ripe After Party at Villa Noosa... head on down to that.
Review of last night's show at the Villa Noosa featuring The Secret Whisper, The Strange Few and the Hayden Hack Infusion will be up later tonight. We managed to get some footage of The Secret Whisper as well (and had a chat to vocalist, Jessica).
Diana Ahnaid at Club Envy tonight, if you couldn't get out to Ripe, definitely head to this from about 8pm.
All Ages metal tonight from 6pm at Price St Hall for $10. Provoke, The Ailment, No Mercy Marg, Driven Fear, and ThickXSkin.
With The Floating Bridges on a small hiatus, Those Old Soles have a few shows in the coming weeks. Thursday June 3rd and Tuesday June 15th at the Music Kafe in Brisbane. 9pm slots both nights and free entry. The Unofficials are playing Kings Beach Tavern next Friday, June 4th. Go check out their profile in the Band Database and have a listen to their stuff. Definitely worth checking out.
For those of you unaware, Brisbane's Club 299 are having 'Dorm Fever' on Wednesday nights. Free entry, and this Wednesday you'll catch Locavore, The Black Walls, Bodywire.
Under a week to go now until the debut of Diamond Nights at 240V. Confession, City Escape, Therefore I Am (USA) and Signal the Firing Squad will ring in the new night of music on the Sunshine Coast. Tickets at the door are $15. Not doing anything on Friday night? Then go to that!
If you're in Brisbane next Friday night, check out The Tempo Hotel in Fortitude Valley for an intake of Meat Snorkel, Kunst, Slow Riots, and Burn Down Hollywood.
Peregian Originals returns next Sunday, June 6th with The Good Ship, Mardi Lumsden and the Rising Seas (Brisbane) and Craig Cole.
28/05/10
Those that were up late last night would've noticed the gradual transformation of The Point. We were going to hold off until The Point Party, but couldn't wait any longer (plus we have something else to unveil that night). We've tried to streamline the frontpage a little bit, plus pretty it up. It's been tested on an iPhone and looks pretty good on that. There are still a few glitches that we're ironing out, but that shouldn't take long. Enjoy!
The Point's heading up to Villa Noosa tonight to cach The Strange Few, The Secret Whisper and Hayden Hack Infusion for FREE tonight. Bands start around 9pm. If you're heading up, come and say g'day. Apparently there's a free courtesy bus to Villa Noosa for Noosa area, ring 0427 539 897 for pickup.
Alternatively, the dual CD launch for Khan and Mitch Davis & The Dawn Chorus will be happening at the Noosa Surf Club. Get in early. Tickets at the door are $10.
If you're a big punk fan, then don't miss Joey Cape and Tony Sly - 2 great punk legends at the Kings Beach Tavern tonight. The Floating Bridges have their last show until July, tonight, at the Music Kafe in Brisbane. Percussionist/Didj man, Adro goes walkabout overseas for a little while, so the boys will be on a break, but will hopefully be launching their EP, 'Fire', when he comes back.
There's been a change in line-up for tomorrow's metal fest in Price St, Nambour. The line-up is now Provoke, The Ailment, No Mercy Marg, Driven Fear, and ThickXSkin. It starts at 6pm and is $10.
The Point heard the new mix of Technical Symplicity's new demo of 'Lights of Blinding' tonight (only because the editor is in the band). Jake from Shotgun Studio has done an awesome job. The boys should be unleashing it soon enough. Kindread are down in ol' Melbourne town as they launch their CD. They'll be come back up here next month for a CD launch at Club Envy.
27/05/10
Aftermath of Origin 1. Commiserations to Blues supporters, congrats to Maroons supporters.
While most of us were watching the game, there was music and live art taking place at Club Envy. The Point saw some photos today and they look very cool. Make sure you catch the next one, next Wednesday night.
Noosa Surf Club, this Friday night you'll witness the dual CD launch of Khan and Mitch Davis & The Dawn Chorus. Both artists are preparing to headover to the US, so this would be a great event to take in.
Good friend of The Point, Tomina and her band Xarata are launching into the scene with a hell of a show at the Stepp Inn in Brisbane on June 26 with Five Star Prison Cell, Lynchmada and Recoil. Suhweet!
Indie wunderkinds Archdukes are playing Kings Beach Tavern on June 23rd. It's All Ages, and free, and we're pretty sure there's going to be quite a few bands there, so what more could you want?
Received a message from Elliot today -
"Looking for an accoustic/folk/indie style band 2 perform @ community forum event in Kawana, June 19th. Email amped.avenue@gmail.com to apply or get more info. Gig will be paid... Acts members MUST be ALL under 25." Sounds like a good opportunity, so if you're keen, and not coming to The Point Party, then get your application in.
26/05/10
Only a little update tonight due to State of Origin.
If you're not into the footy, then head out to Club Envy tonight for Open Mic night from 7.30pm. Cheap entry with bands The MAP Project and Cleveland Blues playing, live painting, and for you musos out there, take your instrument with you and have a jam.
MIA Entertainment regrets to announce that the AA show at the Black Box on June 18, which was to feature Rivalry (Gandalf the Grey), Morning Gloree, and Raise the Fallen has been cancelled, and all other MIA Entertainment shows have been postponed until further notice. Don't quite know what's happening there, but hopefully Mic's alright and gets things sorted.
Joey Cape and Tony Sly - 2 punk legends from Lagwagon and No Use for a Name - bring their acoustic performance to Kings Beach Tavern this Friday night. Go check that out for something different.
Really digging that Lending Her track, 'Lifeline', so go download it from their profile on the Band Database and have a listen.
Big gig coming up at the Black Box on June 12 that's All Ages for just $10. From 4.30pm to 9pm you'll get No Mercy Marg, Casualties of War, Take This to Heart, After the Escape, What Lies Beneath and As The Years Burn.
Those that were paying attention last night would've seen a sneak peek at the new look The Point which will be unleashed in coming weeks. If you missed that, click here to have a gander.
25/05/10
The Point welcomes Lending Her to the Database. Emerging from the remains of band Easy for Willis, Lending Her show off a fantastic display of Rock with influences like The Smiths, Psychedelic Furs, Stereophonics (*They sound a lot like NZ band, The Feelers to me - Ed). Go check out their profile and download the track 'Lifeline'. It's been playing all afternoon here at The Point HQ. Those Old Soles have finally added a show. They'll be playing on Thursday, June 10 at the Music Kafe in Brisbane's West End from 7pm.
Yesterday we mentioned the line-up for Open Mic night, which is tomorrow night at Club Envy. There's been a slight change. The MAP Project are now playing with Cleveland Blues.
Former Sunshine Coast DJ (and big fan of The Point), Ryzer has had some live footage of him doof doofing it up at Chinese Laundry in Sydney. All techno fans, go check it out. Hopefully he'll be up this way in June (and may just make a visit to The Point Party as well). Go watch his performance here.
Currently listening to Brisbane band, Bang Bang Boss Kelly who will be coming to Club Envy on June 5. IF you like Mumford & Sons, The Pogues etc, or you caught their performance at Peregian Originals a while back, you'll love them. Don't miss them, as this will be their last performance for some time.
The Point will be heading up to the Villa Noosa this Friday night to check out The Strange Few, The Secret Whisper and The Hayden Hack Infusion live... for FREE. That means you all get in for FREE too. Come on up and have a beer with the Editor if you want.
Week 3

Ah, Monday. A day for recovery. Hope you all took in some live music last weekend, as there was heaps on offer.
A little update for Dead Letter Circus fans - 'This is the Warning' is sitting at #2 on the ARIA albums charts, pipped only by Bieber Fever, and the boys are still in the iTunes top 10 downloaded albums, currently sitting at #6.
If you're not a rugby fan at all, head out to Club Envy on Wednesday night for Open Mic night featuring Jumbos Shask and Cleveland Blues from 7.30pm.
Club Envy are also hosting fiery singer/songwriter Diana Anaid (She'll go off... ) this Saturday night from 8pm for $15.
There's an assortment of All Age metal this Saturday at the Price St Hall in Nambour, featuring Against, The Ailment, Driven Fear, No Mercy Marg, and Castaway. $10 will get you in for that.
Kings Beach Tavern will feature two legends of punk - Joey Cape (Lagwagon) & Tony Sly (No Use for a Name) doing their acoustic thing this Friday night. Tickets available from www.oztix.com.
There's still plenty of time to wina double-pass to the debut of Diamond Nights at 240V on June 4th, which will feature Confession, City Escape, Therefore I Am (USA), and Signal the Firing Squad. Otherwise tickets are $15. Read down through the earlier posts if you're unsure what you have to do to win.
Thank you to those bands that have already RSVP'd for The Point Party on June 19th. We now also have 8 bands confirmed to perform on the night. Full list will be announced next week. There's still a couple of spaces left, so if you're band was invited and you haven't RSVP'd yet, you still have till June 5.
23/05/10
Heard good things about last night's show at Club Envy, so well done to Take Anthia, The Marsden Lees and Cameo Cast, and well done to all you music lovers that headed out last night.
Tonight, Club Envy is getting down and dirty with some blues, featuring The Blackwater Fever, Dirty York, and Black Mustang. Doors open at 8pm and it's $15.
Villa Noosa has added some more dates to the Gig guide, and these guys are putting on regular FREE gigs. Next one is Friday May 28, with The Strange Few, The Secret Whisper, and The Hayden Hack Infusion. Did we mention it's Free?
The Point welcomes singer/songwriter Lucy Hannah to the band database. Lucy has a pretty impressive performance/airplay resumé and has her full-length album coming out this year. Go check out Lucy's profile and have a listen to the indie-pop track 'I'm Not You'.
Don't forget, open mic night midweek at Club Envy. Though, it is State of Origin night, so you'll be excused for not going out that night. We'll let you have that one.
22/05/10
Well done to Mic from MIA Entertainment for a kick-arse show last night at good ol' Kings Beach Tavern. If you weren't there, The Point has put up a blog about the night.
Meat Snorkel tonight at the Jubilee if you're heading down Brisbane way.
Gandalf the Grey have finally decided on a new name. You may now call them... Rivalry. Nice one!
Club Envy tomorrow night, you'll be able to catch The Blackwater Fever with Dirty York and Black Mustang. That's from 8pm and is $15.
If you're after some down and dirty Hip Hop, head out to the Coolum Beach Hotel tonight and get yer groove one to Undertow, Flawlezz, Rukus Crew, Azov and Kasper Hauser from 8pm.
How's this for awesome? Cheap night tonight as $5 gets you Take Anthia, The Marsden Lees and Cameo Cast. Get down there for that!
A big welcome back to Oz to Gorbo, former-bassist for the now defunct Kemistry (whose remaining members now make up for half of The Floating Bridges).
If you're not yet aware, The Butterfly Effect and Calling All Cars are heading to Villa Noosa on July 22nd. Pre-sale tickets are $33, and on the night they will be $38.
Haven't seen Dead Letter Circus' new filmclip to 'Big' yet? Sorry to say it doesn't feature Licka playing the drums with an assortment of stick-like food. Instead you get an amazing film clip featuring the artwork of Cameron Grey. Enjoy. *A special video request, just for Nick. -Ed.
21/05/10
Top effort to MIA Entertainment for hijacking The Point page. Show tonight at Kings Beach Tavern if you didn't already know.
It appears The Floating Bridges are right to play tonight at the Music Kafe down in Brisbane. Reese's hand has recovered. These are definitely tough hippies. Drawcard are losing their bassist. Mitch is 'pursuing other career interests', so be sure to catch his last few shows on June 5th at Thriller, and on June 18th at the Villa Noosa.
June 11th, the Villa Noosa is hosting melbourne band Redink, with support from The Marsden Lees and Rocketsmiths for a FREE show.
Ripe Noosa is just about here! One more week to go. A massive music feast featuring National and local acts. Anyone wanting to write down their experiences for a review, feel free to send it to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au
Congratulations to Messiam for getting their track 'Killing Breed' onto the soundtrack for upcoming local feature horror film 'Come and Get Me'. Locals, supporting locals. Awesome.
Those bands that played at the Homegrown Festival, Shotgun Studio has mixed a live recording of each band and those tracks are available now. You should have received an email from Elliot at the Homegrown crew, so go check your inboxes.
20/05/10 UPDATE: Big thanks to the Take Anthia boys, and apologies for this mistake - their show on Saturday night at Club Envy was advertised on the site as having a $15 cover charge, when apparently it's only $5.
Are you folks ready for another big weekend of music? We sure hope so.
If you're a member of Project Dead Letter, you have access to go check out the brand new clip for the track, 'Big'. It is, to be brutally honest, f*cking amazing. The Point assumes that the video will be made 'public' perhaps after the weekend.
The lads from Meat Snorkel have provided The Point with more gigs, with one this Saturday at The Jubilee Hotel (Free Entry). Go check out the updated Gigs page for more info. The Floating Bridges may or may not be playing tomorrow night at The Music Kafe in Brisbane. It will all depend on drummer, Reese's hands, which apparently he has injured. If he's ok, then the Bridges will be playing. If not, then quite possibly Those Old Soles will be stepping in to fill the slot from 11pm to 1am.
A big night of metal tomorrow night at the Kings Beach Tavern to celebrate Mic from MIA Entertainment's birthday. Helping him celebrate his 60th (bahahahahahaha I kid I kid, he's turning like, 40 or something) will be Idle Theory, Inhailed, Desolution, and a rare Sunshine Coast performance from This Collision.
Want rock? Take Anthia and The Marsden Lees at Club Envy on Saturday night, The Mason Rack Band from Gold Coast playing the Kawana SLSC, He-Man Woman Eaters and more playing Villa Noosa tomorrow night.
Want to shake yer arse and dance around like loons? A French Butler Called Smith at Club Envy tomorrow night, and a huge night of Hip Hop at Coolum Hotel on Saturday night featuring Undertow (former Coaster, now Melbournite) with Flawlezz, Rukus Crew and more.
If punk's your thing, The Kombi Killers are playing the Deception Bay Sports Club tomorrow night.
You want more metal? Well get a good intake at Kings Beach Tavern tomorrow night, or head down to the Kallangur Community Centre to catch Countdown to Armageddon.
There's been another date announced for Diamond Nights at 240V, with a show planned in July featuring Mourning Tide and more (including a band starting with W ... ).
Speaking of Diamond Nights, don't forget, if you want a double pass to the debut of Diamond Nights featuring Confession, City Escape, Therefore I Am (USA) and locals Signal the Firing Squad, the person with the highest friend suggestions to the Diamond Nights page on Facebook will score the double pass. You need to take a screen shot of the amount of friends you've suggested as proof, and email it to us or stick it up on your Facebook page and link us. 19/05/10
The Point has managed to squeeze in a review for Dead Letter Circus' album, This is the Warning. You may agree with it, you may not, but if you haven't got yourself a copy and you want one, head down to Moshpit Maroochydore and ask the guys there. The album is still going strong on the iTunes album charts too.
The results are in for the Ripe Noosa band competition, and the winner is... Goodfoot. They'll be placed on the MASC stage at the Ripe Noosa Festival, which boasts a massive line-up including The Cat Empire, Birds of Tokyo, Grinspoon and more. Ripe is actually this weekend!

Click here to check out the video.
Good news for punk lovers... legendary band Strung Out are coming this way in June (June 19th in fact, so the same night as The Point Party). Supporting Strung Out will be Dementia 13 and Mayfair. You can find ticket info at www.bluemurder.com.au

18/05/10
This has happened a hell of a lot sooner than expected. Believe it or not, we here at The Point have checked the statistics on Google Analytics and it turns out that we have gone past 1,500 hits a month average. Thanks guys! Guess we'll have to organise another jig to celebrate!
Quite a few emails were waiting to be opened here at The Point HQ this evening.
Word through the grapevine is that Dead Letter Circus' show at the Hi Fi Bar in Brisbane on June 5 (featuring Sydonia and This Collision) has sold out.
The Point welcomes Psychedelic Rock/Blues trio, The Unofficials to the band Database. These guys are playing Kings Beach Tavern on June 4, and Ric's Bar in Brisbane on June 12th. Go check out their Profile.
There's been a few new gigs added to the Gigs page, with some more dates from the team at Villa Noosa, including shows by Thirsty Merc, and The Butterfly Effect (featuring Calling All Cars).
It's an indie rock invasion at Club Envy this Saturday night with Take Anthia and The Marsden Lees playing. Doors open at 8pm and it's $15 to get in.
Speaking of Club Envy, it's Open Mic again tomorrow night, with great Brisbane band Trouble Karma Flow amongst those slated to play, as well as some live art taking place courtesy of Renae Awen. Then the stage is open for you to get up and show your stuff after 9.30pm. Backline is provided by Billy Hydes, so just bring your instrument and your talent.
Viva la Sunshine Coast music revolution! Another venue is welcoming musicians with open arms. Hotel Maroochydore, formerly the Grinning Dog Tavern, is hosting Alternative Music nights every Thursday. 17/05/10
Well, judging by the dip in hits on the site on Saturday, it looks like a lot of you were out enjoying local music instead. Awesome!
The Point ticket winners for the Bump Bush Bash have reported back with some footage already, and The Point has had it all edited and wrapped up in a neat little package that can now be found on the Podcasts page. Looks like it was one hell of a day/night.
Ripe Noosa should be announcing the winner of the 'play at Ripe' band competition on Wednesday, and last time we checked, it was still neck and neck between Good Foot and The Secret Whisper.
Speaking of The Secret Whisper, they're playing the X & Y Bar in Brisbane tomorrow night. If you're heading down to Bris Vegas, drop in and check them out. Idle Theory, Inhailed, Desolution and a rare performance from This Collision, THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at the Kings Beach Tavern, all for Mic from MIA Entertainment (and Retribution Productions)'s Birthday. Mic's done a lot for local music in the past year, so go show some appreciation by celebrating his birthday and rockin' good style. Tickets are $12 and available at the door, at Moshipt Music, and at Music@Noosa.
The Point welcomes Kindread to the band Database. These guys are currently launching their CD, with a local launch at Club Envy on June 12.
Another massive weekend of music coming up, with a plethora of gigs to head out and see on Friday night. The MIA Entertainment show at Kings Beach Tavern, A French Butler Called Smith at Club Envy, He-man Woman Eaters and more at Villa Noosa, The Kombi Killers at Deception Bay Sports Club, and Gold Coast band Mason Rack Band at Kawana SLSC. And that's just on the Friday night. Rob Stanley has been generous enough to provide The Point with another reivew, this time on the show at The Globe Theatre last night, featuring Embrace Eternity, the debut of The Cilikis Progressio Project, Death to the Witness, Hate Disciple, and Rob himself. It's up now on the Reviews page.
There's been some buzz generating about the new night of music at 240V - Diamond Nights. It debuts on June 4 with touring band Confession, City Escape, Therefore I Am (USA) & Signal the Firing (or as Pine Cone would write, Fircing) Squad.
Thanks to The Point and Destro All Lines (organisers of Diamond Nights) we have 2 tickets to give away. The person with the highest friend suggestions to the Diamond Nights page on Facebook will score the double pass. You need to take a screen shot of the amount of friends you've suggested as proof, and email it to us or stick it up on your Facebook page and link us. (Taking a screen shot is simple - for PC users, click on the Print Screen button on your keyboard, and paste the image into a program like Photoshop, MS Paint or even Word, - Mac Users, use the Screen Grab utility and save it as a jpeg).
16/05/10
The Point welcomes young band Stryder to the band database. Invoking the gods of 70s hard rock (Black Sabbath, Zepplin etc), apparently these guys have been stirring up a bit of hype. Go check out their profile and download their track 'A M S (Hey Girl)' here.
There's a few more wanted ads placed on the Wanted page at the moment, one in particular is band Blood Red Sky who are looking for a young drummer. Go check the Wanted page for more details. Rob Stanley, Cilikis Progressio Project, Death to the Witness, Hate Disciple and touring band Embrace Eternity are playing The Globe Theatre in Brisbane tonight.
Don't forget to head out to Club Envy on Wednesday nights for their Open Mic nights. $2 entry. Cheap as for a good mid-week's night entertainment. They'll be combining art and music as well, with local artist Renae Awin creating works right in front of you. More artists to come. Pretty cool way of combining 2 artistic industries into one entertaining night.
Ripe Noosa is next weekend, with band timetables being released tomorrow. The band competition where one local band wins the right to play Ripe is coming to an end, but what a close it will be. Good Foot and The Secret Whisper are neck and neck at the moment with only 28 votes separating the bands. If you want your one of either band to win, go cast your vote now. Click here to do it (make sure you're signed into facebook).
*Have had a look at the comments on the Ripe poll page and there's some general nastiness going on there. Honestly, I don't like band comps at it's usually a case of who has the higher amount of fans and who whores themselves the most, and as one comment stated, 'who cares... if the winner sounds like sh*t on the day, then they all lose'... good point that. - Ed
This is the Warning, Dead Letter Circus' album, which is still #1 on the iTunes charts, is still on high rotation here at The Point HQ. Love Love Love it. Now just have to review it.
Still getting RSVP's in for The Point Party, so if you received an invitation, and are planning on coming, let us know ASAP! Deadline is June 5th, but if we get more than the limited number of RSVP's it will come down to first in, first served. Already there's a great line-up of live performances on the night, so you really don't want to miss this...plus hell, there's free beer and pizza. Duh.
This Friday night, May 21st, will be a massive night of music at The Kings Beach Tavern for Mic from MIA Entertainment's birthday. Idle Theory, Inhailed, Desolution and a rare Coast performance by This Collision will make this one you DON'T want to MISS. Tickets still available from Moshpit Music in Maroochydore, Music@Noosa, or at the door if you want to risk that.
Speaking of Moshpit, they currently have a sale going on, so if you haven't been in there recently, now's the time to drop in on Phil and Mega, have a yarn, and buy some ultra-cool music stuff.
15/05/10
The weekend's kicked in and The Point hopes you're all taking in some live music somewhere. The winners of the Bump Bush Bash tickets have been providing us with updates today, and it sounds like they're having a ball.
For you metal fans, there's an All Ages show on RIGHT NOW at Price St Hall featuring The Ailment, Countdown to Armageddon and more. It's $15 and it started at 5pm.
If hanging at an All Ages event gives you the heebie jeebies, then head out to Club Envy tonight to catch Mourning Tide, Grace is Gone and more.
There'll be more Eumundi Live happening tomorrow, as well as Peregian Originals featuring OKA, Band of Frequencies and more.
Those heading down to Brisbane tonight, The Floating Bridges are playing the Music Kafe at 11pm.
Stay down Brisbane for tomorrow there will be an epic evening of metal goodness, featuring Rob Stanley, touring artists Embrace Eternity and more at The Globe from 6pm.
The review of Take Anthia's Opinions EP is now up on the Reviews page. It's a bloody good EP, so go read what The Point thinks about it.
The Point will be reviewing Dead Letter Circus' This is the Warning in the coming week.

OKA, Band of Frequencies and more at Peregian Originals (free) Rob Stanley, Embrace Eternity, Cilikis Progressio Project, Death to the Witness, Hate Disciple at The Globe, Brisbane
That's a whole heap of music for one weekend. Get out there and enjoy! (And feel free to send in a review, maybe).
Sources have informed The Point that the Bump Bush Bash has sold out. There may be some tickets still available at the gate, but if in doubt, contact them via email here. The Vagrant City Scandal have a new song up on their myspace. Go check out Maybe, Tonighthere.
If you've seen The Flumes live before, you know how much of a phenomenal sound they have, especially for a three-piece. For those that are un-initiated, go have a listen to their track Star of the Seahere. They're playing this weekend at Eumundi Live, at Club Envy on June 2nd, and at Maleny's Upfront Club on July 31.
Only 3 weeks to go until the debut of Diamond Nights, the new live music night on the Coast at 240V. The Point, in conjunction with Destroy All Lines have something very cool to announce very soon, so pay attention.
13/05/10
The Point just got back from a photo shoot in old Eumundi town for a Sunday mail article. Morning Gloree were the poster boys, but The Point, MIA Entertainment and Morning Gloree were interviewed for the article.
Looks like Caloundra venue, CBX is putting on love music now, with free entry on Saturday night with sometime Australian, part-time USA band Astral Aliends playing.
Eumundi Live this weekend. Tonnes of free music, coinciding with the Eumundi Body Art expo.
The Point received an email from Sunshine Coast musician, Chris Webbe today. Chris has been around for quite a while, but had to stop gigging 18 months ago due to an accident, but ever the champion he is, managed to finish 2 albums while he was recuperating. More of a old school blues/rock/country style, go check out his website - www.chriswebbe.com, or even better, check out this old video for a song Chris and his group The Sweaty Palms put together for the Summernats.
Received the following message from good ol' Elliot today, regarding AMPED workshops. If you're a music professional with something to say/pass on to those willing to learn, this could be of interest -
"AMPED (A Music Program Enabling Development) is a project which aims to support and develop young bands, musicians and music industry workers across the Sunshine Coast. The project is an initiative of the Queensland State Government through Arts Queensland’s A-venue program and delivered by Sunshine Coast Council.
AMPED is seeking expressions of interest from young bands, musicians and music industry workers, aged 15-30 years old, who would like to be part of the opportunities’ being delivered in 2010.

Want a dose of local Hip Hop? Head out to Villa Noosa tomorrow night to catch High Knights. For details, check out the gigs page.
Club Envy and the MASC Live Room has a truckload of gigs happening in May, plus their open mic nights fun by Circle of Sound. A few names to drop that are coming to Club Envy - Dubmarine (this Friday night), Mourning Tide, A French Butler Called Smith, The Marsden Lees, Dirty York, and Diana Anaid.
The Point welcomes The Twins, recording engineer/producer twin brothers Sean and Tom Astill to the bands database. These guys have gained a pretty solid amount of experience, despite their age. Go check out their page, and contact them if you're interested in laying down some tracks. National Dead Letter Circus Day tomorrow!
12/05/10
Nearly halfway through May already? What's up with that?
The Point just scored some more cool surprises to raffle off at The Point Party next month. Keeps getting better.
Open Mic night at Club Envy tonight from 7.30pm. $2 should get you in. Three acts booked in, including Carl Lynch, and then it's open to you guys. Take your instrument and jam up a storm. Contact Debbie on 0438 452 025 for more info.
That Take Anthia EP is still spinning here at The Point HQ.
There's been a poll put up on The Point Blog were we are asking what the favourite Coast release is (so far this year). There's been a few votes and it's interesting to see who's leading the poll. The Point will leave it open for another week, then release results later. Dead Letter Circus' albums have been shipped, and if you're pre-orderd This is the Warning, it should be on its way to you, with expected delivery date on National Dead Letter Circus Day, May 14. Can't bloody wait for this one. If you're a little impatient, DLC are streaming the album from their Myspace this week. Peregian Originals this Sunday from 1pm, behind the surf club as per usual. This time around, take in the sounds of OKA and Band Of Frequencies, Troubadourette, Rebecca Moore, and more T.B.A. Free music for all.
*You will notice that all the Google Ads have been pulled down from the site. Our account was disabled due to 'suspicious activity', which is basically Google Ads' way of saying that we were too click happy. Instead, I've chosen to put the donations button in a more obvious spot. Believe it or not, The Point actually costs money to run and I've been funding it myself. The Google Ads were to supplement this, but obviously now that's not an option. If you think The Point is doing a good job, you may feel it within you to donate a couple of bucks, via Paypal, to help out. The shirts are still available online, but as with most online deals, I have to wait for the royalties to reach a certain amount before any funds are released.
Apologies if this sounds like a boo hoo sob story, but I can only do so much. I would like to say a huge thank you to those promoters/venues that put me on the door so I can review the shows and help get these bands and venues' names out there. Contrary to belief, I don't get 'heaps blind' and 'cut sick', instead I'll have a beer, then take in all I can of the happenings at that event. Hell, I can't even remember a gig in the last year where wasn't looking at it from a review perspective. Oh, and one more thing, I do know that the price of the shirts may seem high to some of you (thank you to those that overlooked this), so I will be trialing some cheaper local versions (using Gildan shirts though, so they'll be sofffffft) at The Point Party. They should cost $20 each, but will be limited to certain sizes and colours (no Black... costs extra to get done). If they do alright, I'll figure out postage costs and let you all know. - Ed.
11/05/10
Three days until National Dead Letter Circus Day, May 14.
Local metallers, Idle Theory are looking for a bassist. It seems that Dylan, their current bassist is set to move up north due to work committments, and the boys need someone to step into his shoes. Contact them via their contact details on their Profile.
There's a new review up right now of The Outlook & Mr Boinkin's EP. Go to the Reviews page and check it out. Very cool EP.
The Point received Take Anthia's EP in the mail today, so it will get reviewed over the next few days. Already been on high rotation here at The Point headquarters.
The Sunday Mail is currently interviewing for an upcoming article about the Sunshine Coast music scene and our never-ending fight against noise restrictions etc. The Point was interviewed today, as well as Rohan from The Floating Bridges/Those Old Soles/Technical Symplicity, the Morning Gloree lads will be interviewed this Thursday, and The Point put the journalist on the right track by informing her that she should also talk to MASC, Jay from Peregian Originals, and spokespeople from Central QLD and Gold Coast. This should be a very interesting article. High Knights were interviewed on Noosa Community FM tonight, in preparation for their show at Villa Noosa this Friday night. Fans of Aussie Hip Hop, head out on Friday night to catch them in a rare performance.
The Point will most likely be going down to Kings Beach Tavern to watch Georgian Ivy, The Kombi Killers, He-man Women Eaters, and The Intrepids from 7.30pm. Tickets are $10.
Fans of Dubmarine, rejoice, for they are back on the Coast this Friday night at Club Envy!
The Point has been made aware of the Billy Thorpe Scholarship which is closing this Friday. It’s a scholarship for an emerging musician for $10 000 - They've had no applications from regional artists as yet and it would be great if Qmusic got some through.
Interested? Click here to apply.
Places at The Point Party are filling fast, so if you haven't RSVP'd yet, we would highly recommend you do so soon. Already we have an extremely cool line-up of performances scheduled, but even if you miss out on a performance slot, make sure you don't miss out on being at the party. The Point has some very cool surprises happening on the night.
The Bump Bush Bash is on THIS WEEKEND, and our lucky recipients of the free tickets we gave away will hopefully get some good reviews to The Point.
Those that missed out on tickets to the Bump Bush Bash, the Eumundi Live line-up and times have been announced. Two days of some awesome blues/roots/folk music to take in... for FREE. Click here to go see the line-up.
There's a few musicians available/wanted up on the Wanted page, so go check it out if you're looking for a band, or need a new member.
Those that will be in Brisbane on the weekend, MIA Entertainment has a bit of a treat for you... at The Globe in the Valley will be touring band Embrace Eternity, the always phenomenal Rob Stanley, Cilikis Progresso Project, Hate Disciple, and Death to the Witness. There's still time to get tickets for Mic from MIA Entertainment's Birthday bash at the Kings Beach Tavern, featuring Idle Theory, Inhailed, Desolution, and a rare Sunshine Coast performance from This Collision. Tickets are $12 and are available from Moshpit Music Maroochydore and Music@Noosa.
Looks like metal heaven Finland is interested in Rob Stanley's music. Selected tracks from The Doorway in the Darkness will be broadcast in the coming weeks on Kyrösradio. Go Rob, go!
10/05/10
Happy Birthday to Tomina! She's an avid supporter of local music AND The Point. Hope you had a good one, mate!
Tracks from Rob Stanley's 'The Doorway in the Darkness' will be featured on melbourne radio station, Triple R's Musically Incorrect program tonight. Melbournites (and I know there's a couple of you), tune into FM 102.7. The rest of us, we can tune in to their online streaming here.
Rob's also been busy designing some new stuff for local metal lads, Idle Theory. Follow his blog to find out what he's up to.
The Point rated Rob's album on iTunes today too, so if you have material up on iTunes, and you want us to review for you, let The Point know.
MASC will be presenting a dual album launch on May 28th at the Noosa Surf Club for Mitch Davis & the Dawn Chorus and Khan. For lovers of eclectic folk/roots and groove, bands start around 9pm and entry is $10.
RSVP's for the 2010 The Point Party are starting to come in at a steady pace. Remember, this is limited to 60 guests, and it's for bands/promoters/producers only (not for band hangers-on etc). Already have a few artists locked in to perform stripped back versions of their songs, so it's looking to be a great night. Check your band email account (the one you provided to The Point) for your invitation.
09/05/10
Happy Mother's Day, particularly to those bringing up future rock stars.
Sounds like there was a hell of a lot of music appreciation happening on Friday night. Not only did the Club Envy show do well, but have heard from Take Anthia that their EP launch at Kings Beach Tavern pulled around 160 heads, and the Good Foot/Archdukes show at the Villa Noosa did well to! Now THAT's what The Point likes to hear.
Now, rest up kiddies, because next weekend is going to be one hell of a massive music intake. Just go check the Gigs page for details.
Local producer and part of The Lady Throat Killers, Quizmical has been working flat stick doing sound on a film project, but has now got 3 weeks free to wrap production on The Lady Throat Killers album. He'll be getting some local talent to collaborate on the title track. The new album, Broken Pearl Necklace is looking at a June release.
Keeping with the local Hip Hop theme, The Outlook with Mr Boinkin are busy touring down South, but will be making their way back North, with the release of their new EP. More news on that as it develops.
But, if you're wanting a dose of local Hip Hop a little closer to now, this Friday night the Villa Noosa hosts High Knights with a rare Sunshine Coast performance. Doors open at 9pm and tickets at the door are $10. This is looking to be a great night.
Looking for music tonight? Head down to The Globe in Brisbane to catch Idle Theory, Mad Machine, & Never Plead Guilty, with replacements Deadend Kings. $10 at the door.
08/05/10
Fantastic effort by MIA Entertainment, Club Envy, the bands and all you music fans for making last night one of the biggest nights at Club Envy. There's a new Blog entry about what happened last night, so if you weren't there, or too drunk to remember, go have a read. Also included is footage of Toxic Jungle debuting.
The show tomorrow at The Globe in Brisbane featuring Return to Reality, Idle Theory, Mad Machine, & Never Plead Guilty has had a line-up change. Due to injury Return to Reality will be replaced by Deadend Kings.
Tijuana Cartel tonight at Club Envy. Go get your dance on.
You thought this weekend was big for music? Wait until next weekend. Tonnes of local music coming your way.
A reminder to all you bands out there that have the ability to make a filmclip. Get in contact with Landed Music, that TV show on Channel 10 that features Queensland bands. Great way to get your music out there.
It was a short-lived celebration for Messiam, as last night Inhailed took away their title as loudest band to grace the stage at Club Envy.
Week1
07/05/10
Queens of Scream are coming to the Sunshine Coast. Queens of Scream are a series of shows featuring all female-fronted bands (Red on Red, The Disconnection, and Neverworld) and when they come to the Coast, Tranzluzid will be joining them on the line-up. The shows that have featured in Brisbane and Gold Coast have been very succesful, and it will be a fresh change to see so many female-fronted bands in one event. Queens of Scream is scheduled for July 24th at Club Envy.
The Point would like to congratulate heavyweights, Messiam, for becoming the loudest band thus far to grace the stage at Club Envy. Not saying how loud there were in decibels, but it was enough to easily knock previous title holders, Idle Theory of the perch.
Heaps of music on tonight, so head on out and catch some local talent at either Club Envy, Villa Noosa or Kings Beach Tavern (or if you're in Brisbane, the Jubilee Hotel or The Fort in Fortitude Valley).
Tijuana Cartel tomorrow night at Club Envy!

Looks like this year's Caloundra Music Festival is going to be the biggest one yet, given that the date that Powderfinger are playing (you know, we could actually claim that 1/5th of Powderfinger is from the Coast... drummer Jon Coghill is from around here - hell, his dad taught science at Nambour High School for years) - Friday October 8th, has officially been SOLD OUT.

Oka return to Peregian, along with Band of Frequencies, Troubadourette, Rebecca Moore and more to be announced. As always, Peregian Originals is behind the Surf Club, starts at 1pm and is FREE.
You still have time to get your pre-sale ticket for what's going to be a big night of the loud and heavy type. Celebrating Mic from MIA Entertainment's Birthday, a $12 ticket will get you a night witnessing, Brisbane's Desolution, locals (and 2010 artists to watch) Inhailed and Idle Theory, and the return of the mighty This Collision. All you metal fans that complain that there's not enough shows, well, take this one in. It's at Kings Beach Tavern, May 21st, and you can get pre-sale tickets from Moshpit Music, Maroochydore, or Music@Noosa (or from Mic this Friday night at Club Envy at another MIA Entertainment presents show).
This bit of news came in this afternoon -

This is a bands/promoters/producers only event, so sorry to the music fans out there. Some of you will even have the opportunity to perform a semi-acoustic track.
01/05/10
Frist day of May, and it started with one hell of a sound. A Raw Sound, in fact.
Well done to the organisers of Raw Sounds at Kings Beach today. Perfect conditions, though the crowd could've been a bit bigger.
A great assortment of bands on show, with a mix of young and mature talent. All the bands were awesome.
Footage collected from the day will be up in the coming week.
Club Envy hosts Charlie Mayfair tonight, with supports The Flumes and The Strange Few. The Floating Bridges were scheduled to play, but due to a booking mishap have had to pull out. The Strange Few are taking their place (The Point caught their set earlier today at Raw Sounds... most epic set of sideburns evident, and a very cool 60's rock sound).
This first day of May is just the start of what will be an epic month of live music (just check the Gigs page for proof). If you want to get your blues on, the good ol' Palmwoods Hotel is hosting Gold Coast's Bluesville Station tonight.
There was some unnecessary comments made on the Facebook fanpage last night, and let it be clear, The Point is a portal for musicians to network, to get their news out, and for music lovers to be made aware of the awesome amount of talent that resides on the Sunshine Coast. It is NOT a place for individuals to bag out other bands because, in their mind, they're 'unoriginal' or not worthy of attention. This is not for you to decide. The Point was created to unite the music scene, not as a means for certain folk to voice their crap, mainly for attention. Not. Cool. Rant over.
The Floating Bridges' much anticipated 2nd EP is due for release in the coming month (or 2), and have heard from both the producer and the Bridges themselves that it's sounding big. Can't wait for that one. RUMOUR HAS IT:Those Old Soles could just be doing a few more gigs in the next few months, due to The Floating Bridges having some downtime as their percussionist/didj player, Adro disappears over to Nepal for a stint. Keep an eye out on the Gigs guide for details. Gandalf the Grey's debut EP isn't too far away either, and as soon as it drops, we'll get a review up for you.
Next Friday night at Club Envy, sees the return of MIA Entertainment presents, with Soul Legion launching their CD, supported by Social Anger, Inhailed, and the debut of Toxic Jungle (featuring Huddo - Excruciate/Universal Veil/Flay the Flesh/& possibly Dead Kelly - on vocals). Doors open 8pm.
In fact, there are gigs all over the place on May 7th (Friday night).
Villa Noosa is hosting Good Foot, Scarlet Blue and Archdukes (featuring Elliot from Vagrant City Scandal) for FREE from 9pm.
Kings Beach Tavern will see Take Anthia and The Mercy Beat rock the place from 8pm. Tranzluzid will be playing the Jubilee Hotel in Brisbane, with The Disconnection and Waterpark, and finally at The Fort in Fortitude Valley, Countdown to Armageddon will be doing a show.
