Week 3

27/05/09 - The Point will be having a hugely special offer coming very soon to new bands that submit their profiles. Stay tuned in the following week for details!

27/05/09 - Tranzluzid will be playing the Noosa Homegrown event at the Villa Noosa on June 4th.

27/05/09 - Forever March will be playing the North Brisbane Youth Alive event on June 12th.

26/05/09 - Rediscovered the old Supercharged CD featuring all Sunshine Coast bands from back in 1999. Interesting to see the evolution of some bands (old Melodyssey pre-Lance, Plasma pre-Drawcard) and wondering where others went to, such as Parkhead, Grinder, Gambles Goat, Tinnitus, Asura Deva, Karma, and more. If anyone knows what happened to these bands and where they are now, email The Point.

26/05/09 - If you want your band on The Point, send your most recent bio, best promo pic, contact details and mp3 to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au. It's FREE!

26/05/09 - The Floating Bridges are playing the 'Back Room' at Velvet Waters, Caloundra this Thursday night. I dare you to not have a smile on your face after the first few songs when watching this band play.

26/05/09 - Technical Symplicity have had to pull out of the June 7th show at The Sands with This Collision, Epidemic...Over, Misdirection, Forever March and more, due to the commitment to playing at the finals of the Loud 09 Band Competition at the Loud Festival on the Gold Coast. The band were disappointed about having to withdraw from the show, having expressed that they were planning on playing both, but found it impossible to do so. The Sands show is on the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend and is $15. Go check out the newly named Forever March (ex-Silence is Deafening), as well as the return of the mighty This Collision lads.

25/05/09 - Sunshine Coast punkers Dementia 13 have a new EP coming very soon. If you are yet to experience a Dementia 13 show, then you are yet to witness the crazy antics of these guys. Awesome, fun live band, and looking forward to their new release.

24/05/09 - Silence is Deafening has had a name change, new sound, and new look. The are now called Forever March (check out their website - www.forevermarch.com), and their new sound is awesome. Keep an eye on these kids. You can download their new single 'Isaiah's Note' for a limited time from their website.

24/05/09 - RUMOUR has it that another venue on the Coast will soon be putting on regular shows for all genres. We'll bring more information when it breaks.

24/05/09 - Big congratulations to The Floating Bridges on their win in the Loud 09 Semi Finals. The boys had an awesome crowd response and played an awesome show, even against tough competition from Panda Panda Panda and more. The Floating Bridges now join Technical Symplicity as the Sunshine Coast's entrants in the Loud Festival at the Gold Coast on June 7th. Tickets are available from www.ticketek.com.au. The Loud 09 Festival not only features the Loud 09 Finalists, but also The Butterfly Effect, Mammal, MM9, Melodyssey, the Winnie Coopers, Pez & 360, House Vs Hurricane and more. We catch up with The Floating Bridges in this week's upcoming podcast, so stay tuned.

22/05/09 - Big welcome to The Vagrant City Scandal to The Point. These lads have been making quite a name for themselves and a very much worth a listen. If you dig music like The Cure, The Clash, The Vines etc...you'll really dig these guys.

22/05/09 - If you're a musician or in a band and have no idea how to write a decent press release to send to the local media and street presses (remember to do the press release at least two weeks in advance...no use sending it the night before the gig because it WON'T get published), then have a read of one of my blogs. Hopefully this will help you. Go read the blog here.

21/05/09 - We've decided to make The Point free for bands to put their profile up. How nice are we?

21/05/09 - The Ginger Factory on the Sunshine Coast will over the next two months nurture up and coming jazz singing talent via its Jazz Singers Jam sessions to be held on the first Sunday each month. Up to five will be chosen per session, and backed by the
Modern Jazz Trio. The program is organised by jazz performer Sue Bond, but those wanting to register their interest must do so to the Ginger Factory’s general manager Nichole Seymore at (07) 5447 8465 or by email at: nseymore@buderimginger.com. The
next session is on June 7 at 1 pm, the venue is on Pioneer Road at Yandina.

Week 2

20/05/09 - The Point's first podcast is up now on the Podcasts page. Go check it out!

20/05/09 - A big welcome to Tranzluzid to The Point. The 5-piece has been gaining quite a bit of interest in the music industry, with a great reception on the Triple J Unearthed site. Check out their bio and have a listen to their track - Master of Disguise.

20/05/09 - The Blackwater Fever, one of the most succesful acts the Sunshine Coast has produced in a good while, will be playing the Sands Tavern on Friday night with Roger That. Doors open from 8pm.

19/05/09 - Sunshine Coast grooving hippy kids, The Floating Bridges, have been generating a buzz in the hinterland with performances at the Mapleton Pub, and this Saturday night they bring their peace, good times and funky tunes to the Sands Tavern as they compete in the Semi Finals of the Loud 09 Band Competition. Entry is free and doors open at 8pm. The Point seriously recommends you check these guys out.

19/05/09 - Panda Panda Panda (if you haven't heard these guys yet, check out their myspace) are supporting From The Hearts of Heroes this Friday night (May 22nd) at the Sands. Entry is $12 and doors open at 8pm. The mad 3xPanda lads will then compete in the second Semi Final of the Loud 09 Band competition the following night (Sat May 23rd). Entry to the Semi Finals is FREE.

18/05/09 - The Point welcomes aboard the first 8 Sunshine Coast bands on the database - Technical Symplicity, Universal Veil, Stitches, Malignant Divinity, Intergral Divisions, Excruciate, Dead Kelly, & Glitchstream. Go check out their profiles on the Band database.

17/05/09 - Congratulations to Technical Symplicity, who have made it through the Semi-finals of the LOUD 09 Band Competition. The boys were surprised by the win, as the there was tough competition from the other 4 bands (Ablaze Withsin, Rite of Passage, In The Walls, & Valkere), but were humbled by the win, and thank their friends and fans for their support. Technical Symplicity will now head to the LOUD 09 Festival on the Gold Coast to compete against 9 other bands for some awesome prizes, as well as being apart of the festival that features The Butterfly Effect, Mammal, MM9, Melodyssey and more.

16/05/09 - The future of rock music on the Sunshine Coast is in good hands with the amount of talent being produced at a young level. The kids in the grade 6 & 7 Pacific Paradise State School Rock Band have entered their version of the song "I'm Not Over" (listen to it here) in the Ashton School Band All Stars search for best school band competition. They're currently coming 3rd, but with some extra votes, could easily win this. You can vote for them here and follow the instructions.

16/05/09 - Sands Tavern is hosting the first Semi-finals of the LOUD 09 Band Competition tonight from 7pm. Entry is FREE, and only one band will go through to the finals at the LOUD 09 on the Gold Coast on June 7th. Five bands are competing tonight.

15/05/09 - One of the Sunshine Coast's best drummers (though he's now residing in Brisbane) Luke "Licka" Williams reports that one of the Coast's favourite "adopted" bands, Dead Letter Circus, have completed 8 songs for their new full-length album, due out in November. They have 3 more to go, with the boys heading back into the studio in June. RUMOUR has it that one very VERY well known producer (with some pretty impressive bands in his catalogue) has been mixing their songs.

15/05/09 - Meat Snorkel are representing the Coast when they play at The Globe tonight in Brisbane.

14/05/09 - The Dead Kelly gang have been busy recording the new tracks to the follow up of the first EP, Cross in the Sky. The first EP got rave reviews (Tsunami gave it 8/10) and much has been said about this band that still, to this day, has never played a live gig. Who the f**k are these mad, super-talented, brutal lads?

14/05/09 - RUMOUR has it that one pretty well established Sunshine Coast band will be unveiling a new sound, new name, and all round new look in the coming week. Stay tuned for more details.

13/05/09 - LOUD 09 Semi Finals this weekend at the Sands Tavern, Maroochydore. Technical Symplicity, Ablaze Withsin, Valkere, Rite of Passage, and In the Walls are all competing. It's FREE entry, doors open at 7pm, so get down there and support the locals!

13/05/09 - Nambour boys, Silence is Deafening have put up a new song from their forthcoming new EP up on their myspace. The new sound is a lot more melodic than their old stuff. Sounds really good.

13/05/09 - It's aliiiive! The Point is live and active. Feel free to have a look around. We currently have 7 bands already on board, so you need to hurry up and get your band on the database while the free offer is still running (first 20 bands get in for free). Spread the word to all your mates. The Point is the new voice for the music community on the Sunshine Coast.
