Happy Birthday to Dr Bob, whom without we wouldn't have a most awesome place to have had the previous Point Parties (*and I wouldn't exist - Ed).
Good luck to Slaughter FX tonight. They will, finally and after a whole heap of hard work, premier the locally made indie horror flick, 'Come and Get Me' at various locations tonight, with 2 screenings at Nambour Civic Centre.
Local metallers, Messiam feature on the soundtrack to the film.
Those wanting to go to Raw sounds tomorrow and haven't got your ticket yet... tough luck. It's 'SOLD' out. They can not fit any more people in. Should be a great night of indie/punk/rock and more.
Applications for this year's Caloundra Music Festival are now open, but before you rush to apply, have a good hard read at the requirements as there are a few boxes bands need to tick in order to be considered. Click here to go to the application page.
SolBar's nearly ready to kick off a new wave of music appreciation on the Sunshine Coast... not long now.

30/03/11
Plenty of music happening this week with the huge, massive, grand opening of SolBar in Ocean St, Maroochydore, kicking off on April 1st with Hayden Hack Infusion and The Flumes, then a massive launch party on April 2nd with Bonjah, The Greenroom, and The Dawn Chorus, and The Floating Bridges on Sunday night.
Raw Sounds kicks off this Friday with a great line-up of local and visiting bands, all at the Lake Kawana Community Centre.
Jazzerati will be launching their CD at Maleny Community Centre this Friday night as well.
Minor Elite have a busy month coming up, starting with a show at Barsoma's Thirsty Thursdays tomorrow night in Brisbane.
Not long now until The Secret Whisper finally unleash their debut EP, Le Jeune Amour. In the meantime, they have a message for you (not sure about the rap, but hey) - click here to see it.
We've finally reviewed Idle Theory's CD, but decided to blog it instead of putting it up on the Reviews page. Click here to go check it out.

28/03/11
It's a Red Day today... two new additions to The Point database with Artificial Red and Red Boss Productions being added. Go check out Artificial Red's track 'Outcast'. We've heard quite a bit about these guys in the punk scene.
Red Boss Productions is a new mob that can help out with your film clip (getting to be pretty much essential nowadays in the world of Facebook and Youtube). They recently did a filmclip for The Vagrant City Scandal's 'Maybe, Tonight', which we featured on the front page for a week.
The Point TV finally caught up with Drawcard on the weekend for a two-part interview, which are both now up on the Point TV page.
Drawcard, fresh from a huge support slot for Unwritten Law, will be playing with Central Queensland fave's Epidemic...Over and more this Friday night at Basement 243 in Brisbane.
Not long now until the Solbar launch. Huge weekend of bands at the newly reformed Coast music fave. Check the gig guide for details. The biggest will be the official launch on April 1st with Bonjah and more. Massive.

24/03/11
Got an outgoing (Read: out there) personality? Homegrown is looking for a suitable MC for the event. Someone entertaining to introduce each band. Think you've got what it takes? Leave a message on our facebook page and we'll put in contact with the right person.
Drawcard, The Vagrant City Scandal, Dunsinane, Verusive... they're all playing at Villa Noosa tomorrow night.. FOR FREE. Doors at 8pm. Go check it out, ask Drawcard how cool Unwritten Law were and stuff like that.
In ol' Nambour Town, the Die Die Die gig has been moved to Price St Hall and will feature Bird and Prey and Thievery. This kicks off at 8pm, and is $15.
BUT.. before you head there, go into the town square as Nambour Moonlight Markets is back and will feature Jester People (now known as For London) and more... FOR FREE.
Geebus we love our free music here.
Nambour Originals on Sunday from 1pm, featuring Sahara Beck, Kelly Family Band, Kindling and Ruby Blue (the last two bands feature members from KOOII). Take your spare change, buy a raffle ticket or 10 and support this event.

23/03/11
First things first, the Die Die Die gig that was cancelled (it was to be at Chambers Island this Friday) is now back on and will be at the Price St Hall, Nambour this Friday night. All ages and starts from 8pm.
Jester People have decided that they don't like their name (probably got sick of people calling them THE Jester People) and are now known as For London. Follow them on Facebook here.
The Point has heard rumours of another Bump Bush Bash coming up. We're not allowed to give details or dates, but for those on the Bump Crew's list, we'll give you a heads up (and the rumoured line-up looks absolutely nuts!!!)
Jason from Kombi Killers (and also Myrtle Place) is now also playing in a band called Edward Zipperhead which also features Des (ex-Inhailed vocalist) on drums. The bands will debut at the Prince of Wales Hotel on April 30 with Artifical Red, Myrtle Place, and Kombi Killers.
We'll have Artificial Red's profile up on the Database section in the coming days to check out. Lot of hype around these guys.
Looking for a fresh night to get off to on the Coast? Flame @ Soave Bar with the Bump DJs is now looking to be a regular Friday night occurence. It's Free and kicks off from 7pm. Definitely check it out.

22/03/11
The Point received a neat little parcel yesterday, and low and behold, we now have a copy of Idle Theory's CD at our Headquarters, and now on high rotation. We'll be reviewing this one soon, but can tell you it's a full-on assault on the senses. Digging tracks like 'What Has Become' and 'Against the Wall'.
Minor Elite and The Secret Silence are heading to Brisbane this Friday night to support A Family of Strangers (Glenn Esmond from The Butterfly Effect's side project). They'll be playing the Transcontinental Hotel in George St, with doors opening at 8pm.
More ads appearing in the Wanted section, so go check them out if you're looking to join a band. One new ad states a guitarist/keyboardist is wanted. Go check it out.
A few more bands to be added to the database this week, so as soon as they're up, we'll let you know to check them out.
The Point will be heading up to the Villa Noosa this Friday for a free show featuring Drawcard, The Vagrant City Scandal, Dunsinane and more. Though, we're a bit disappointed that Social Anger were pulled from the bill. What gives? We should be getting some footage and interviews from Drawcard and the others on the night.
Joe's Waterhole are getting decked out this weekend... The Deckchairs are coming, with support from Khan and The Flumes.

20/03/11
Bummer about the weather. Would've been oh so sweet to celebrate Peregian Originals triumph with the likes of KOOII and Asa Broomhall. Sometimes, Huey just isn't playing nice.
Couple of Wanted/Available ads just posted. Go check them out on the Wanted page.
Congratulations to our mates in Messiam who got airplay on Metal Messiah Radio today... worldwide. Top effort. The Point is proud of you lads.
The Beerwah Battle of the Bands is happening this Wednesday night at Beerwah High. Click here for more info.
Blues/Roots bands that are after a cool little pub gig in Nambour (looks like these gigs will be a regular event too), you'll need to contact Perry to express your interest. Find him on Facebook here and link up your page.

19/03/11
Apologies for missing last night's update, Pointsters.
However, if you're looking for a massive night that will have the bass shaking you to the core, then Audio Medicine is for you. There's too much goodness to mention, but we'll drop a few names for you - Kurrupt, Subliminal Dubsters, The Mank Live, DanDan, Cloneboy... you get the point. This event will be massive, and hopefully the sky clears up so that the 'supermoon' will be a part of the experience. For more details of the event, click here, or click on the Audio Medicine poster in the Upcoming Shows section.
Drawcard will be rocking the Hi Fi Bar tonight, supporting So-Cal legends Unwritten Law. Rip it up, lads.
Peregian Originals tomorrow. Come on weather, be nice. The Crew have gone through a hell of a lot to keep it all together. Tomorrow from 1pm you can get down to KOOII, Asa Broomhall Trio, Vorn Doolette, and Black Creek. As always, don't forget to buy raffle tickets/donate, and give Jay a hug/pat on the back.
There's a few Wanted ads that have come through, and we'll get those up in due time.

17/03/11
Happy Birthday to Coast vocal coach, Leanna Williams.
Big news in the last 24/36 hours is that Peregian Originals has kept its 24 events a year. However, there are some strange goings on behind the scenes with SCRC (*Some serious Cloak and Dagger sh*t - Ed.). As a few people pointed out on the PO Facebook page, the best way to show that the community is behind this event CONTINUOUSLY would be to keep sending letters of praise of the event's organisers and to the Council for continuing the event. Beat them with positivity and kindness, instead of hurling negativity. Give it a go.
A whole heap of gigs have been added to the Gigs page, including a lot of touring acts coming to Kings Beach Tavern in the coming months.
Congratulations to Dementia 13 for securing the support slot for the Dead Kennedys show at the Hi Fi Bar on April 7.
Likewise to Drawcard, who are the 'local' support for Unwritten Law this Saturday night at the Hi Fi Bar in Brisbane.
If you like your Jazz (and honestly, we don't get much of that up here, apart from the Noosa Jazz Festival), go check out SophistiCAT at the Beerwah Hotel on March 27 from 1pm to 4pm. Also, local Jazz/Funk 'supergroup' Jazzerati are launching their CD on April 1st at the Maleny Community Centre from 6.30pm. Entry is $20 and you get a copy of the CD with that.
Myrtle Place are playing Club Envy this Friday night with visiting acts Le Suits, Baers, and Galaxy. Doors at 8pm and it's $10.
If you haven't checked out Gorefield yet, go have a look at their profile on the Bands page. These guys are starting to create a bit of a stir.
The Secret Whisper have been generous enough to put one track from their upcoming EP onto Soundcloud. Go listen to the track 'Cops & Robbers' here.
The Point's off to the Woombye Pub tonight to catch Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, Jackson Dunn and Transvaal Diamond Syndicate before they head off on yet another tour.

15/03/11
So, the 'Council' meet tomorrow morning to discuss the fate of Peregian Originals, whether it keeps it's standard 24 events a year, or gets halved. Honestly, there seems to be a bit of cloak and dagger work happening here, and we're not impressed. If you want to voice your opinion, peacefully of course, head to the Council Chambers in Caloundra tomorrow morning for the 9.30am meeting.
Are you ready to shake off the blues of this week? Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction are playing with their mates, Jackson Dunn and Transvaal Diamond Syndicate this Thursday night at the Woombye Pub. The ol' Woombee Pub's not going to know what has hit it.
Speaking of Cleveland Blues, there's a new episode of The Point TV up now, with The Point's Wade interviewing Cleveland and Bam Bam. It's on the Point TV page.
There's a new project in the works featuring members of Take Anthia, Locavore and Technical Symplicity. The Point heard a sneak peak of a rough recording and so far, we're pretty impressed. Give it a few months and this new project - 'Cicada' - will be pumping out some very proggy tracks.
Nice little write up for The Secret Whisper launched online today. The band have their EP launching next month and are already on the publicity wagon. Young bands should take note - get yourselves out there as much as possible when releasing your work. Check the article here.

13/03/11
Great turnout today for the Peregian Originals rally. Hopefully the message has been received, loud and clear.
Last night's Rock'n'Roots at the Kings Beach Tavern went off. A great line-up of bands that you'll most likely not see on the same bill together (as Brett from Kindread pointed out, each one of those bands are more than capable of headlining their own shows, so to get so many of high calabre on one bill... hard to do). Excellent turnout, and an abundance of smiles. Review coming soon (plus Wade was able to get an interview with Cleveland Blues for Point TV).
All reports say that the Fullmoon Dance was amazing last night as well.
There's a great new video production company, Red Boss Productions on the Coast now. These guys can produce great quality filmclips at a reasonable price. Check out the video on the home page of The Vagrant City Scandal's track, 'Maybe Tonight'. We'll get their profile page up and running shortly.
Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction rocked it last nigth at Kings Beach Tavern, but be prepared to be blown away when they team up with The Point's favourite Brisband, Transvaal Diamond Syndicate this Thursday nigth at the Woombye Pub. They'll be joined by Jackson Dunn.

11/03/11
The campaign to keep Peregian Originals alive is in full swing. Great to see such awesome support and response for this much needed event. Keep it up.
Rohan dropped into The Point HQ last night and gave us a sneak peek at the new Floating Bridges track. It's sounding very awesome, and that's not even finished yet. He also mentioned that, when it's ready to drop, there'll be a special surprise for regular Point followers, so stay tuned. The Floating Bridges have got a massive few months coming up, including a tour through Central Queensland.
Messiam are heading to Brisbane tomorrow night, to play Basement 243 with a whole swag of other brutal bands. Basement 243 is in the Valley (243 Brunswick St), and the event kicks off at 8pm. $10 to get in.
Rock'n'Roots tomorrow afternoon from 5pm until late at the Kings Beach Tavern. Kicking off with Revolution Sunday, then take in the likes of The Floating Bridges, Cleveland Blues, Kindread, Chocolate Strings, French Butler Called Smith. It's $20 on the door, and worth every cent. Should be a massive afternoon/night.
Verrierdale Hall will be pounding to the sounds of Wild Marmalade at the Full Moon Dance tomorrow night. More on the bill. If you're not at Rock'n'Roots, then you should be there.
Nambour Originals this Sunday (fingers crossed for good weather) from 1pm, with Dawn Chorus, The Greenroom and more. As always, bring a blanket, bring your family and friends, and bring some coins for donations to the event.
The Point welcomes Gorefield to the band database. Go check out their profile and have a listen to their track 'Freedom to Burn'. Find them on the Bands page.
The Secret Whisper have announced that their EP is coming very soon. Been a long time coming, so we here at The Point are very keen to have a listen.

09/03/11
Late update tonight - been in the studio with Kindread.
We've been reminded to point out (pardon the pun) that Rock'n'Roots at Kings Beach Tavern starts at 5pm this Saturday. Please pass this on to as many people as you can. It's an earlier start to accommodate for so many bands on one bill.
Originals Night at Pig'n'Whistle tomorrow night. From 7.30pm UPSTAIRS catch The Wild Comforts and Bata Scouts, plus open mic from 9.30pm.
A new episode of Point TV is being edited and uploaded now, and should be up later tonight. A sneak peak at one of the new Kindread tracks, in a basic form. Studio antics and what not.
The Solbar... it hasn't even opened yet and there's some very cool shows coming up. One of which involves The MAP Project, Kellogs10k, The Outlook MC and DJ Stomp. This one is happening on April 15 with a low coverprice of $5.

08/03/11
If you have been following what's been happening in the world of Facebook today, (and you're passionate about local music), you would have heard about the dilema facing Peregian Originals... again. It appears, once again, the SCRC have decided to beat their chest and bow to the minority, voting to reduce Peregian Originals to 12 events a year. Not good enough, SCRC. Thankfully, Jay and crew do not give up so easily, so they are urging everyone and anyone who are passionate about live music to (peacefully) write or contact the Council and voice your opinion. The list of Councillors to contact are on The Point's Facebook page.
The Bump crew are at it again. This Friday night they are launching Flame@Soave Bar in Mooloolaba, with DJs Roland and Mikey kicking up the heat with their sets from 7pm.
This Thursday night at the Pig'n'Whistle, Originals Night will be UPSTAIRS and will feature The Wild Comforts and Bata Scouts from 7.30pm.
Bird and Prey are back, and will be supporting NZ's Die Die Die and Bleeding Knees Club at The Rook on Sugar Rd, Maroochydore on March 25. Click here for more info.
Don't forget, Rock'n'Roots kicks off this Saturday night at Kings Beach Tavern with A French Butler Called Smith, Kindread, Chocolate Strings, Cleveland Blues, The Floating Bridges and Revolution Sunday. Tickets are $16 pre-sold from the venue, or $20 on the night. Awesome value for all these bands on one bill.
Up the other end of the Coast, you'll find the Verrierdale Hall Full Moon Dance in full swing with Wild Marmalade and more.
Transvaal Diamond Syndicate (The Point's favourite Brisband) are coming back, bringing Cleveland Blues and Jackson Dunn with them. They hit up the Woombye Pub on March 17.

07/03/11
Happy Birthday to Charlie, Minor Elite's skinman and sometime The Point contributor.
So... the rumour has been confirmed. One of The Point's acts to watch has split. Locavore have parted ways, sadly, but the Herman boys are carrying on and starting a new project with (from what we've heard) James from Take Anthia. They are, however, looking for a bassist to put some backbone to the group. Someone who can provide some 'phat' grooves and keep up. Go to the Wanted page to check out the more info.
In the meantime, to celebrate the life of Locavore, have a listen to this track, 'What I had in Mind'.
Excruciate, those goremetal legends of the Coast are also looking for a new bassist. What's the go with the lack of bass players around?
Word is that The Greenroom's debut album is coming along nicely. The groovesters have also score the support for The Beards at Joe's Waterhole on April 9.
Homegrown and Raw sounds look to be very cool this year, with plenty of new talent on show. Bands like Rivalry and the Jester People will be appearing at Homegrown (with Headliner, Numbers Radio), and bands such as MITZI, The Belligerents, Bird & Prey, Pro Vita, Minorbirds, Stryder, Spuhtnik, and Cat Magic. Raw Sounds is on Friday, April 1 at the Lake Kawana Community Centre. Homegrown will be on April 10 at the Alex Skate Park.
One band that keeps popping up on our radar is Gorefield. Now, we don't know much about the band, so we've watched this handy little instructional video of theirs... and we still don't know much about the band, apart from the fact they have an EP coming out, and they sound tight as. Judge for yourselves.

05/03/11
Hopefully the sun comes out to play tomorrow, as Peregian Originals looks to be killer with Dubmarine and The Rooftops both scheduled to play.
Tonight at Kings Beach Tavern, catch one of Australia's favourite dreadied muso's, Ash Grunwald, live. Tix should be about $25 on the door (don't quote us on that).
There's a new episode of The Point TV up now, featuring an interview and footage from Kindread.
Excruciate are looking for a new bassist. Think you've got the chops to keep up with those goremetal legends? Go to the Wanted page for more details.
Next week will be a big week for local music, as next Saturday night brings you Rock'n'Roots at the Kings Beach Tavern, dubstep goodness with Front Door, and the legendary Full Moon Dance at Verrierdale Hall.
The Point has heard through the grapevine that one of our favourite prog acts has split. Interesting, and disturbing. We will look into that a bit further.
We also caught up with Mr Rob Stanley today, and he was pleased to inform us that Spiralsiren is progressing well, with some tracks nearly finished, with only bass tracks to lay down. We tried to get a sneak preview, but these tracks are more closely guarded than Ian Thorpe's sexuality. There will possibly be a teaser coming soon though.

03/03/11
Originals Night tonight at the Pig'n'Whistle in Maroochydore from 7.30pm. This week, Deb and Brett bring you the very talented Ryan Toohey, and the return of Those Old Soles. Open Mic sessions, as always, kick off afterwards.
Thousand Needles in Red, 12ft Ninja, Drawcard and more this Friday night at Villa Noosa. Looks like the Villa is the new venue for the Gigahertz showcase nights too, with one coming up on March 25th featuring Drawcard, The Vagrant City Scandal and more.
The team at Peregian Originals announced the line-up for this Sunday's session... The Rooftops and DUBMARINE (we love those guys here at The Point) plus more. Guaranteed to be a huge day, so don't forget your loose change and get down to the Peregian SLSC from 1pm.
Looking to join a band? There's a few positions available in the Wanted section. A vocalist is needed for one group, and an experienced Lead Guitarist needed for another. Head to the page for more info.
Minor Elite have been announced as one of the supports for the A Family of Strangers show on May 20 at the Tewantin RSL. They join The Secret Silence on the line-up. A Family of Strangers is an awesome project featuring Glenn Esmond from The Butterfly Effect). Definitely worth checking out (plus we've been listening to The Secret Silence's EP here and can vouch that they, like Minor Elite, are damn well awesome too).

01/03/11
The AMPED workshop scheduled for tonight was cancelled due to lack of interest. Hey, young bands... what's up? You need help or not?
Originals Night this Thursday at the Pig'n'Whistle sees the return of Those Old Soles and Ryan Toohey. Come on down from 7.30pm and say g'day to some of The Point crew.
Thousand Needles in Red return to the Coast this week with a show at Villa Noosa with support from the likes of Drawcard, Vagrant City Scandal and more.
There's a rootsy dilema coming up next week... Rock'n'Roots and Rull Moon Dance on the same night?!?! Take your pick... so much talent to shake your butt to in one night.
Looking to joing a band? There's a few more Wanted ads placed tonight, with one group needing a vocalist, and a lead guitarist wanted for an established band. Go to the Wanted page for details.
It's taken us some time, and apologies, but we finally have Myrtle Place's bio now up on the band database (sorry guys). Check out their song, 'Not My Scene' which is now on high rotation here at The Point HQ.
We're all keeping an eye on some great tracks like Electro Kid's 'For Yourself' (link in the high rotation column), and Rivalry's new track which you can check out here.
The Jester People are doing extremely well on the Triple J Unearthed charts, kicking it at #2 in the Dance Charts.
