March 2010

Week 4

31/03/10
A big happy birthday to... my dad (Rob). Quite a few of you know him or met him at The Point Party last year. If it weren't for my dad encouraging me to play music from an early age, and influencing me to listen to music from The Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Laurie Anderson, Dire Straits, JJ Cale, Eric Clapton, and classical music (he's also a big Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails fan, and is now a big fan of Rob Stanley and The Floating Bridges), then really, there wouldn't be The Point. I know some of you see him on his rep rounds, so if visits you today, say happy birthday.

Nice to see some early support for The Point Gold Coast, so well done. Hopefully they can help with their scene down there as much as The Point has been up here.
Unfortunately, Technical Symplicity has had to withdraw from their support slot on Rob Stanley's CD launch at Club Envy on April 23.
Another MIA Entertainment presents show coming up next week with Meat Snorkel, Tranzluzid and Machine Gun Citizen playing Club Envy on April 9. This will be a full on, eclectic show, and The Point will be there getting footage.

30/03/10
Have seen the artwork to Rob Stanley's upcoming CD, 'The Doorway in the Darkness'. Needless to say, it's dark and awesome. The Point could share it with you all, but I'll leave that until his launch on April 23rd at Club Envy.
Tanzluzid have announced a gig on May 7 at the Jube in Brisbane, with The Disconnection and Waterpark.
Any buskers or people who know buskers, please be aware there are spots available for 7 buskers to perform near the Alexandra Headland Lifeguard tower on April 10th from 10-4pm. This is to coincide with Homegrown music festival, happening nearby at the skate park. If your interested, email Elliot now: elliot.coreexpressions@gmail.com
Have heard a neatened up, but still unfinished mix of Technical Symplicity's new demo track, recorded by Jake at Shotgun Studios (he's recorded Idle Theory, Dunsinane, Take Anthia). Once completed, the track will be available for free download here at The Point.
Don't forget, Technical Symplicity will be supporting Thousand Needles in Red THIS SUNDAY, along with St Petersburg from Brisbane.
Now for the bigger news...
There has been a bit of talk between me and a colleague down in Gold Coast, and to cut to the chase we are looking at creating a sister site for The Point Sunshine Coast... The Point Gold Coast. It won't be as big as this site (for now), but will still focus on Gold Coast music news, reviews, podcasts and gigs. It will be overlooked by The Point Sunshine Coast, but the content will be gathered by the editor down on the Gold Coast. It was decided that the Gold Coast scene is just as much overlooked as the Sunshine Coast scene (compared to say Brisbane's live music scene). For a sneak peak at the logo, click here.

29/03/10
Thanks for all the feedback and view on the video, folks. We had a lot of fun filming it (did it in one take).
Renae has been gracious enough to send us a review on the Kahn/The Deckchairs/The Hayden Hack Infusion show at Club Envy that was on Saturday night. Awesome work, Renae. You can read the review here.
A few more shirts have been sold, so thank you so much for your support. The money raised from the sale of these shirts just goes straight back into improving The Point website for you guys. It's very much appreciated.
Big weekend of music coming this Easter Weekend. The Great Noosa Campout is just about here - 3 days of a variety of Australian music, with locals (such as the likes of The Floating Bridges, Morning Gloree, The Blackwater Fever, Asa Broomhall Band, The Marsden Lees) mixing it up with Colin Hay (Men at Work), GANGajang, Dallas Frasca and heaps more.
Those wanting something a bit heavier, make your way to Club Envy on Sunday night when Thousand Needles in Red (who are about to blow up BIG TIME... just wait till their album drops) play with Technical Symplicity and St Petersburg (Bris). BIG night of music.
New gigs have been added too.
Following up from the note I made on Saturday about egos, another thing... rubbishing promoters/bands etc on Facebook is not only not cool, it's not smart. It's the internet, folks, and these things have a way of finding their way to the targets of such abuse. If you have an issue, voice it to the said promoter/band, or keep it to yourself. That said, it's only a small minority doing this sort of thing. - Ed.

28/03/10
Here it is, folks. You helped get The Point to an average of 1,000+ hits a month, so as per the vow I made, here is the jig...

27/03/10
Well done MIA Entertainment, and thank you Club Envy, for putting on a kick-arse show last night. Everyone was well behaved and there for the music. Very nice. Review of the gig is now up.
The Floating Bridges play tonight at the good ol' Music Kafe in Brisbane's West End, so if you're heading down to Bris Vegas, check them out from 10pm.
Club Envy goes from metal to groove mode tonight, with Khan, The Deckchairs, and The Hayden Hack Infusion changing the pace. It should get a decent crowd this gig, so go and enjoy.
Carlapalooza (fundraiser event) is on April 2nd at Shed 5 on the Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast punks, The Kombi Killers are part of a pretty big line-up of punk/rock bands. It's a good cause.
The Great Noosa Campout is on next weekend (Easter), and the line-up over 3 days is massive - chock-full of Local and National talent. Those that are going, please feel free to send through a review of the event.
Thousand Needles in Red are coming! Clint Boge (The Butterfly Effect)'s new project is coming to Club Envy next Sunday, April 4, and they're bringing Brisbanites, St Petersburg and local boys Technical Symplicity along. Tickets available from www.oztix.com.au.
Not long now till Homegrown and Raw Sounds.
Just a little tip for some bands/artists out there. When it comes to gigs, just remember to respect the promoter of the show. You're not mega-rockstars yet (though a lot tend to think they are), so leave the f*cking egos at home, be respectful and it will be returned to you. - Ed.

26/03/10
Early update today.
MIA Entertainment presents Idle Theory/Desolution/Rob Stanley at Club Envy tonight. You should know by now. Doors at 7pm.
All Strings Attached/The Floating Bridges/Strange Few tonight at Villa Noosa. Doors at 8pm.
Meat Snorkel and more tonight at Metal of Honour at Rosies in Brisbane.
Received a press release from frequent Coast visitors (from Central QLD), Epidemic... Over. These guys have released a new single 'Shapes to Fall' (available on iTunes) and are about to embark on their Shapes to Fall tour. The reason I mention these guys? Well, firstly, they're mates of The Point (and downright top blokes), but also they are touring with some of the Coast's acts, as well as featuring at this year's Homegrown Festival on April 10. Epidemic...Over playing with Drawcard (& more) up in Rockhampton and Gladstone on April 3 and April 4, April 9 in Beenleigh with Dead Letter Circus & Helm, and April 10 at the Homegrown Festival (see the Gigs page for the full Homegrown Line-up). And just announced, a show at Club Envy on April 16 with supports to be announced. Definitely go see these guys. If you like Dead Letter Circus, Melodyssey and music in the alternative hard rock genre, you'll love these guys.
MIA Entertainment should have some merch out soon, including shirts and hoodies.
Part-time Sunshine Coasters/Melbournites, Sydonia are on tour with Between the Buried and Me (USA) through the end of April, visiting capital cities. They're on the verge of releasing their new album too.

25/03/10
Right, well hasn't today been a bit of a doozy. If unsure what was happening, head to the Facebook fanpage.
The planned show on April 30 at Kings Beach Tavern which was to feature Drawcard and Technical Symplicity has been cancelled.
Sorry guys.
Here's your chance to support the locals, Club Envy have got shows on all weekend. Friday night, as you probably know is MIA Entertainment presents Idle Theory, Desolution, and Rob Stanley. Saturday night, the pace slows down a bit and you'll have Khan, The Deckchairs, and The Hayden Hack Infusion, and Sunday is the big Hug for Haiti event.
If you want live music tomorrow night, and heavy isn't your thing, then head up to the Villa Noosa for All Strings Attached, The Floating Bridges and Strange Few from 8pm. The Floating Bridges also make a return to the Music Kafe on Saturday night from 10pm.
It's official, Rob Stanley's CD launch is on April 23 at Club Envy with supports Templemount, Technical Symplicity (to be confirmed) and Messiam. Don't miss this one. It's not all heavy heavy, but more rockin' with heavy bits.
RUMOUR HAS IT: that there are rumblings of a new indie label coming for the Sunshine Coast. The Point knows more stuff, but is not allowed to tell... yet.
Mayfair are going off right now. Go check their myspace as they have released a teaser trailer as to what's happening this year for them (including snippets of their upcoming filmclip for their track 'Gunsmith Johnny').
We're well aware that we are pretty much sticklers for Sunshine Coast-related news here at The Point, but this is related in a 6-degrees of separation kind of way. Those of you who are Dead Letter Circus fans (there's a crapload of you out there) would have been following the Project Dead Letter website which has all inside info on the recording process, pics, and downloads too, but would also be aware of the artist who did the Album artwork for This is the Warning. His name is Cameron Gray, and all his artwork is phenomenal. Very calming, but thought-provoking. The Point's a big fan, and we urge you to check out his website. Bonus is, there's plenty of free downloads on the site too, like desktop wallpapers, iPhone Wallpapers etc etc.

24/03/10
Happy 1,000 hits a month average to The Point Sunshine Coast. Weird thing to celebrate, we know, but it was a goal set about 6 months ago after we started averaging 300 hits a month, we thought 'hell, why not try for 1,000 average?'. Well, thanks to all you guys out there, we did it.
Here's some more good news. Seems that Club Envy is happy to keep metal gigs at the venue, but limited to once a month (as they don't want to be known as a 'metal venue'). The Point can live with that.
Rob Stanley has sent through a preview of his soon-to-be-released album (coming in May... sh*t May's going to be good for releases - Rob Stanley, Dead Letter Circus), The Doorway in the Darkness. Comprising of samples of the songs on the album, it sounds very very cool indeed.
Even cooler news... and this is hot off..err... Facebook, MIA Entertainment presents Rob Stanley's debut Album launch on April 23 at Club Envy. Supports to be announced.
Drawcard & Wingspan support Final Lies tonight at Club Envy.
Technical Symplicity will be heading into the 'studio' this week to record a demo of a new track, which they'll have available as a free download soon enough.

23/03/10
Rob Stanley's been kind enough to post through a pretty shnazzy looking bio (which would look good in a media kit), so if you want to see a clever way of doing a bio for your media kit (which you send out to promoters, venues, radio stations etc and should include a bio, promo picture, EP/Demo, any posters/stickers, and a press release - which you can learn about writing here). Go have a look. Also notice the *ahem* subtle quote from us.
From the looks of things, Take Anthia are the local support for Dead Letter Circus at their show at Club Envy on April 10 (following the Homegrown Festival). Awesome.
You'll start seeing Thousand Needles in Red posters around the place soon, just as a gentle reminder that these guys are coming to Club Envy on April 4 with St Petersburg and Technical Symplicity. The Point MAY just get a quick interview with vocalist Clint Boge (yes we know he's not Sunshine Coast, but hey, The Butterfly Effect had its big start due a lot to this great area of ours), but we will have to wait for clearance first.
We've got a new band added to The Point - Rats Natas. Local boys with a bit of a genre-defying attitude to 'rock'. Go check their myspace for a listen. Their profile page will be up shortly.
An April 30 show at the Kings Beach Tavern is still going ahead, despite headliners Lanstrum (from Melbourne) pulling out. The line-up for the show still features Drawcard and Technical Symplicity, but Hostile Entertainment are looking for one more band to join the bill. Preferably hard rock and local, and can pull a decent over-18's crowd. If you think you have what it takes, contact us here at The Point - editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au - and we'll put you on the short list to present to Hostile. This offer only extends for the next TWO days, as they do need a finalised line-up for promotion.
Drawcard, Final Lies and Wingspan tomorrow night at Club Envy.
Just quickly, thanks to those that have bought The Point shirts! Looks like the Pine Cone Throat ones are becoming popular too. Might just have to design a few more.

22/03/10
All live local music lovers UNITE! If you want to keep seeing your favourite (and up & coming) local artists keep getting shows at Club Envy, then you need to show your support. You can start by going to some of this week's shows. Wednesday night you've got Final Lies, local faves Drawcard and Wingspan. Friday night, it's an MIA Entertainment presents show featuring one of The Point's artists to watch in 2010, Idle Theory, with Desolution (Bris) and the phenomenal Rob Stanley (with guests including Wingspan). Saturday night you can catch Khan, The Deckchairs and The Hayden Hack Infusion... and don't forget Uni night on Thursday night (which means... cheaper drinks). Club Envy is a great venue, but the owners need to be shown that the Sunshine Coast supports not just touring bands but our local acts (who, lets face it, need the most coverage).
Deathmetal wunderkinds The Ailment are heading down to Melbourne for quite a few shows soon.
Local producer, Quizmical (also from The Lady Throat Killers) as just accepted work as a 'Sound Guy' for an upcoming film, Just Like You.
Clint Boge's (The Butterfly Effect) new project, Thousand Needles in Red are beginning their first tour throughout April with some awesome shows in SE Qld (they are hitting SE Qld, NSW, ACT and Vic - for full dates head to their myspace), with one of the stops being Club Envy with supports St Petersburg (Brisbane) and Technical Symplicity. Tickets are $15 at the door, or $12 + booking fee available from www.oztix.com.au. Their first show at the beginning of March was at the Villa Noosa, and they easily pulled 200 to 300 heads there, so don't miss this.
Young guns, Morning Gloree are going off at the moment. They've just been announced as a late addition to the line-up for the Great Noosa Campout 3-day event (which features heaps of local and National acts - full details and tix at www.thegreatnoosacampout.com). Morning Gloree will be playing on the last day, Sunday April 4.
We here at The Point like to err... point out new artists to check out. Go visist Australian Psycho's myspace page. Australian Psycho is a project comprised basically of Tim Smith (a good mate of the Editor), and you could describe his sound as pretty eclectic, but boiling down to some very cool old school punk rock in the vein of The Saints/Ramones/Television. Definitely recommend having a listen. He should be dropping off his demo for The Point to have a listen to soon enough. You can visit Australian Psycho here.
Go have a look at the shnazzy new Homegrown poster, which has the full line-up of bands and activities over the 2-day event in 2 weeks time.
On a short side note - Go Senator Xenophon and your battle against the Pokies. Though your plan is more concerned with gambling addiction, in the long term it could be great news of musicians.

Week 3

21/03/10
Well, the Huey the Weather God has decided to be not so nice to Peregian Originals, once again, with the event again cancelled due to wet weather. Bit of a bummer, but hopefully the sun will shine on Easter Sunday for them (April 4).
Sounds like The Floating Bridges made some new fans in Brisbane last night, when they played awesome venue, The Joynt. They'll be back in Brisbane tonight at Ric's Bar in the CBD.
Mic from MIA Entertainment is looking for someone to 'man' the door at his event at the Kings Beach Tavern on May 21st (featuring bands This Collision, Idle Theory, Inhailed and Wingspan. Duties include taking tickets/money at the door, doing the stampy stamp thing, and generally being pleasant to those coming to celebrate Mic's Bday with some kick-arse bands. This is a paid stint too. Those interested, contact us here at The Point (editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au) and we'll put you in touch with Mic.

20/03/10
Heart Tribe, in2nation, One Love and Harri Bandhu play at Club Envy tonight, so get your groove on for $15. Doors open at 7pm. This is a very rare opportunity to see in2nation, who have been away in hiatus for quite some time.
Pine Cone Throat spoke to The Point today, and have no fear, there will be more interviews on the way. He's been a busy man, and we've missed his brutally honest interviews with local musicians, so we wil definitely welcome some more Pine Cone Throat goodness soon enough.
Speaking of Pine Cone Throat, go check out the new shirts we have available. You can now wear some of the classic Pine Cone Throat quotes on your shirt. Available designs feature PCT's random "Norwaygian" story, "F*ck dude, you're so deep I think I just sh*t my pants", and "That sounded like a duck gettin' run over by a semili-trailer". Classic. The shirts are fully customisable. Just head to the About page and click on the design you want in the flash slide, and if that style of shirt is not your bag, then change the shirt options in the menu once in the Zazzle store. Can change the colours too (keep in mind that these designs are made for lighter colours, not black, as that will cost a lot extra).
Drawcard hit up Club Envy on this coming Wednesday night, with special guests including Wingspan.
Signal the Firing Squad's album isn't far from completion, with the band wrapping up the vocals soon.

19/03/10
The Point should have the first run of Pine Cone Throat shirts online shortly, featuring some favourite Pine Cone quotes.
The big news today is that Club Envy, which The Point has been very enthusiastic about their support and range of shows for Sunshine Coast acts, is apparently considering putting a stop to Metal and music alike at the venue. Why? A decision will be made after April 9's MIA Entertainment presents event. This is NOT good news. If you're not happy about it, let it be known. Put it out on Facebook/Twitter/Myspace. Let the venue know.
Rohan, bassist for The Floating Bridges informed The Point today that he has heard some of the mixed tracks for the 6-piece's upcoming EP, and that they're sounding 'SICK'. Getting excited about that one.
Fingers crossed for a sunny day this err.. Sunday for Peregian Originals.
Head out to Club Envy tomorrow night for an intake of reggae-goodness (before they get shirty with that genre too :P) Doors open 7pm and it's $15.

18/03/10
If you hadn't noticed, MIA Entertainment have a whole crapload of gigs coming up in the next month, so there's no shortage of an intake of metal/hard rock/rock on the Sunshine Coast, so get out there and support the shows. For the list, go to the Gigs page.
RUMOUR HAS IT: That a prominent promoter on the Coast just may be starting an Indie Label. More on that when we get the full down-low.
Rob Stanley's CD has finished the mixing phase, and now onto the mastering stage. Rob has said he should have the final product in April some time, with a possible CD launch in May. Again, stay tuned for that one. It shall be awesome.
Peregian Originals time again, and hopefully the wet weather stays the hell away, at least for the weekend. Big line-up of acts for free behind the Peregian Surf Club this Sunday - KKarimba (African-style Marimba Band), The Floating Bridges, Nick Latta Trio, Ant McKenna. Best way to come down from a hectic Saturday.
Huge supporters of Sunshine Coast music, Moshpit Music, have had their profile added to The Point. We've had to put them under Promoters/Producers, or you can just look under M.
Heart Tribe, in2nation (featuring The Lady Throat Killers Quizmical on bass), One Love and Harri Bandhu all at Club Envy on Saturday night. $15, doors open 7pm.

17/03/10
Ok, where do we start?
Mic from MIA Entertainment has announced the line-up for his *ahem* 21st Birthday Party (yeah right, Mic :P) at the Kings Beach Tavern on May 21. Pre-sold tickets for $12 will be available soon at allocated stores, and that will get you a night of celebrating Mic's Birthday, as well as This Collision, Idle Theory, Inhailed and Wingspan LIVE. Shall be an awesome night.
Coast alt/prog/rock outfit, Falling Out Of Someone Else's Tree are looking for a guitarist and bassist. Think you've got what it takes? Head to the Wanted page for more details.
March 26th at The Villa Noosa will let you get your hippie on, with The Floating Bridges, All Strings Attached, and Strange Few.
Thanks to Elliot for this interesting tidbit of news -
Raw Sounds - the sister event to Homegrown - is a part of the Manifest Youth Arts Festival (which Homegrown is a part of), will be held at the Kings Beach Foreshore on April 17, so a week after Homegrown. Raw Sounds has a more indie/folk/roots vibe compared to the rocked out Homegrown event, and will feature - The Blackwater Fever, The MAP Project, The Marsden Lees, The Floating Bridges, Freak Morice, Gandald the Grey, The Strange Few, Spec2C and Dunsinane. The best bit? It's ALL FOR FREE! It's on between 10am and 4pm on April 17.

16/03/10
Interview between The Point Girl, Apryl, and young band Gandalf the Grey now up on the Podcasts page. This was Apryl's first interview, so there's a few shakey bits, and some overpowering background noise (courtesy of Rob Stanley's soundcheck - chugg chugg chugg ;) ), but lessons learned and will have some pretty cool interviews with local acts in the future.
Idle Theory at Inferno Free Metal Wednesday tomorrow night. Hell Yeah.
The Marsden Lees play the Villa Noosa Thursday night from 9pm, with Ellington and The Sundance Kids.
The Point is just waiting on a tip from MIA Entertainment... Mic's got something to tell us, but he's holding out...
A little update from songstress, Emily Thompson, is that she's waiting on some drum tracks to be completed (which may or may not be courtesy of DLC's/Melodyssey's drummer, Licka) and then we should be seeing her long-awaited EP come out.

15/03/10
Dead Letter Circus has been confirmed for Homegrown 2010. This is looking to be a huge event, with a massive line-up of talent FOR FREE on April 10 at the Alex Skate Park. Then afterwards, all you over 18ers head to Club Envy for the 'after party' (as Licka described it) where Dead Letter Circus & Helm will rock the joint.
From all reports, youngsters Morning Gloree absolutely smashed their set at the Noosa Festival of Surfing last night. Even had a review submitted, thanks to Craig. It's up now on the Reviews page.
Mic from MIA Entertainment has passed this info on to The Point -
"TO ALL BANDS AND MUSICIANS I JUST RECIEVED THIS MESSAGE Just wondering if any of your bands have applied for Bamfest? Its a 3 day/3 night /24 hour music festival in October (8th to 11th), at Ivory's Rock Conference Centre, so just the other side of Ipswich. They are looking for all types of musicians. If anyone is interested the email address is info@bamfest2010.com "
Definitely worth a stab.
Technical Symplicity is looking to record a demo track for fans to show them what they've been up to, and to whet their appetites in the lead up to shows in April. Stay tuned for more information.
Shout out to Facebook group, Sunny Coast Gigs, for pointing (pardon the pun) people in our direction.
Will be uploading the The Point Girl, Apryl's first interview with young band, Gandalf the Grey tonight. Should be up on The Point tomorrow.
RUMOUR HAS IT: there's a new Melodyssey single in the works.

Week 2

14/03/10
Interesting response on the facebook page to an article I linked to regarding the possibility of Nambour hosting the Sunshine Coast's Entertainment Precinct. The majority of responses so far (not just on facebook, but talking to people in the industry) is that this is an awesome idea. 1. Nambour has the Rail/Bus link. 2. The multi-million dollar refurbishment should be fully utilised. Not just with the Moonlight Markets (which are becoming hugely popular) but also with either a Fortitude Valley or West End vibe. The Commercial Hotel could so easily benefit from this by becoming hosts of major bands. 3. None of the toffee-nosed sea-changer types move to that area of Nambour, so less likelihood of frequent noise complaints. Seems like a pretty damn decent idea. C'mon SCRC, get this thing happening.
Shake It Up have some very awesome projects coming up in the near future. Won't give too much away, and if you are interested, go in and have a chat to Mark or Elissa. One very cool project may or may-not involve arranging 'mini-tours' of the Sunshine Coast for underage bands. Mark & Elissa have always been avid supporters of the future musicians of the Sunshine Coast, so this is awesome.
Mic from MIA Entertainment has passed on to The Point yet another Club Envy show line-up, this time for May 7th which will feature Soul Legion (Debut EP Launch), Inhailed, Social Anger, and Toxic Jungle. $15 and doors open 8pm. The Point is a huge supporter of Mic and his work with MIA Entertainment, hence why you'll see posters with our logo on it.
There's no stopping those Floating Bridges boys. They're playing Ric's Bar in Brisbane tonight, plus a whole heap more gigs have been added to the Gigs page, including 2 upcoming ones at the Villa Noosa, as well as a very tasty slot at the Great Noosa Campout over the Easter Weekend (they play on the Saturday night).
The Kombi Killers have passed on some info about the upcoming Carlapalooza fundraiser event at Shed 5 on the Gold Coast. The Coast punkers have joined the line-up, with more bands TBA. The mini-festival runs from 1.30pm to 1.30am.
Club Envy will host Heart Tribe this coming Saturday (May 20th). Some of these guys are former Coasters, and they're itching to play to their old home crowd. Joining them will be One Love (recently seen at the last Drop the Junk at Coolum - which Quizmical from Lady Throat Killers reported that it was 'packed out to capacity'), hip-hop funksters In2Nation, and Harii Bandhu (who most will know from his work with MASC). Doors open 9pm and tix are $15 available at the door.
Have to give props yet again to Club Envy and the MASC Live Room for keeping the live music momentum going.
If you haven't already, check out Meat Snorkel's profile on The Point and download the exclusive copy of 'Bluevein Thrombosis'. Fans/lovers of Bungle etc will love this.
P.S. Buy a The Point shirt, from the About page.

12/03/10
The Point can confirm that it now has seen the Homegrown 2010 line-up, and man, oh man, it's a good line-up of FREE rock.
13 awesome bands will take to the stage at Alexandra Headlands Skate park on April 10th from 10am. For the full line-up, head to the Gigs page, but The Point can say that bands such as Drawcard, Mayfair, Technical Symplicity, Take Anthia AND Dead Letter Circus (TBC) are on the bill.
The Marsden Lees are playing the Villa Noosa next Thursday, March 18th with Ellington (Brisbane) and The Sundance Kids (Adelaide). Bands start at 9pm. Tickets at the door.
The Great Noosa Campout is only a few weeks away, and it will be a MASSIVE weekend of Australian music, with some awesome Sunshine Coast talent on the line-up as well (including The Point faves, The Floating Bridges). Full all ticket info and performer days, head to www.thegreatnoosacampout.com
Those maestros of weirdness, Meat Snorkel, have finally got their profile happening, as well as a special track that is exclusive to The Point available for download. Interesting fact - Meat Snorkel are one of the most searched for bands on The Point.
Speaking of Meat Snorkel, if you guys have been wondering what's been up with the eclectic electric quartet, here's a word or two from guitarist, Liam -
"We’ve had some time off from shows due to an injury to Steve’s (drums) foot, we’re now back with a few Brisbane and Sunshine Coast shows in the pipeline. I’ve also uploaded a track to our myspace from our as yet untitled album (which will be available for download exclusively from The Point ) we’re nearing completion of said album and it will be available sometime this millennium."
Ripe Noosa (which is looking to be a most excellent festival this year) is giving the chance for ONE band to join the line-up (which includes The Cat Empire, Grinspoon, and stacks more). Send through your applications (myspace's, facebook pages, onlinerecordings, youtube video's or anything else that show's off yourskill) to info@ripenoosa.com. The deadline for applications is 12/04/10. After the applications close they will announce the 5 finalists and you guys on Facebook will then vote for the winner (so make sure you friend Ripe on Facebook).
For your entertainment, death/goremetal legends Excruciate have posted some very cool vids up on YouTube, so if you're looking to kill some time and take in some brutality, click here and here.
Don't forget, The Point NOW HAS MERCH. Show your support for what has become one of the Coast's favourite sources of up-to-date local music news and more. Head to the About page, and click on the 'see more products' link. From there, click on the picture and you should be able to choose from a huge range of shirt styles and colours through Zazzle.com.

11/03/10
*Update - Adrian from radio station 4ZZZ will be airing interviews with Tranzluzid, Morning Gloree and Rob Stanley tonight, so tune in to listen.

It's been a busy day for The Point.
Wingspan have been announced by MIA Entertainment as special guests at the March 26th show at Club Envy, with Rob Stanley, Desolution (Bris) and Idle Theory. Going to be one kick arse night of music.
Those familiar with The Butterfly Effect's vocalist, Clint Boge, would know about his new project, Thousand Needles in Red. Well, Manny (big wig from The Pushworth Group - booking agents), has informed The Point that they are coming to Club Envy on April 4th (Easter Sunday). Thousand Needles in Red played the Villa Noosa a little while back, and pulled a killer crowd, so this one will see Club Envy go off. Supports will be St Petersburg (Bris) who have been gaining plenty of steam with big gigs in Bris Vegas, and the Coast's own Technical Symplicity as the main support. Tickets will be available soon from oztix.com.au, and The Point will bring you more info on that.
Club Envy is going off in the next few months. Not only are they bringing some top notch roots/folk acts up here (such as Heart Tribe, playing live on March 20), bu the MASC Live Room is bringing plenty of MIA Entertainment presents events, and acts such as Dead Letter Circus, Thousand Needles in Red and more are starting to make this venue THE prominent live music venue on the Sunshine Coast (though Kings Beach Tavern are putting up some awesome bands as well, with Melbourne band, Lanstrum - featuring members from Superheist - playing there on April 30, with Technical Symplicity and possibly Drawcard - TBA).
Just want to say, it's so great to see live music kicking up a gear and making the Sunshine Coast a musical juggernaut again. This has always been one of The Point's missions.
And finally...FINALLY, The Point now has merch. You can order your very own The Point Sunshine Coast shirt (many styles, sizes, shapes) via Zazzle.com. You order straight through the Zazzle site and it is created and shipped straight to you within 7 to 12 business days. Prices vary depending on the style of shirt. The editor has ordered a 3/4 baseball-style shirt, for example. Best thing is, they use a technique that involves the ink fusing with the fabric, so it's not a transfer or a screenprint. They do cost a little more (no more really, than you would pay at a retail store for a band Tee) than standard cheap Tees, but the quality's worth it. And think, The Point only makes a little profit from each shirt, which will go straight back into improving the site. Go to the ABOUT page to order one today!

Dead Letter Circus have announced they will be back in town on April 10, playing Club Envy with Helm and another act to be announced. Tickets are available from www.deadlettercircus.oztix.com.au and will be on sale from March 12.
Rob Stanley has been generous enough to preview The Point the very last track to be finished for his upcoming album, The Doorway in the Darkness. In fact, it is the title track, and it is EPIC. See, this is the benefit of running a site like The Point - artists give me sneak previews of their work. The Point may be able to put up a sample of the song soon.
MIA Entertainment has some more dates coming up in the next few months at Club Envy (March 26th and April 9th line-ups finalised), and it seems bands finally get what Mic from MIA is doing. Support him, and he'll support you. There is rumours of an All Ages gig at the J in the works, but can't confirm that as of yet.

Click here to listen to a sample of the brand new Rob Stanley track - 'The Doorway in the Darkness' with an intro by the Editor of The Point.

The Point welcomes Toxic Jungle to the Database. Killer rock'n'roll sounds abound from this 5-piece, fronted by Huddo from Excruciate/Flay The Flesh/Universal Veil/Meat Snorkel. Go check out their profile and download their track, Street Disease.
The Floating Bridges have scored yet another gig in Brisbane, playing jazz/blues bar The Joynt in West End on March 20. Awesome old skool venue that will suit these hippies to a chai tea.

*- Just a little correction. Rob Stanley has informed us that Messiam won't be backing him on March 26th, but Brad from Messiam will be doing some vox on one of Rob's songs. - Ed.

Those Panda Panda Panda boys have been mighty generous to put up a new track on their Myspace. 'Galaga' is all bleep, bloops and typical Panda-ishness. Go to their Myspace and check it out.
The Ailment have also put up some new tuneage on their Myspace, so if you need a dose of brutality to the eardrums, then go have a listen.
Very most awesome exciting news for all you Rob Stanley fans out there... the next MIA Entertainment presents at Club Envy on March 26th will feature Idle Theory (with the ever-friendly Adam behind the mic... the guy's a champ, so make sure you go up to him and say 'hey...dude... you're awesome), Brisbane's Desolution, and the man himself, Rob Stanley, featuring Messiam as a backing band...oh HELL YEAH. This is a mighty line-up, so show your support behind these awesome artists, as well as Club Envy. Doors open at 8pm and it will be $10.
The Point has gone and pre-ordered the much-anticipated new Dead Letter Circus album from the Project Dead Letter website. If you pre-order your copy (there's digital, CD, Vinyl, and the Ultimate kit with loads of other goodies), you also get full access to the Project Dead Letter features, such as downloads, video footage in the studio etc. The Point downloaded 'Here We Divide' and it is, for lack of better words, very TASTY. Head to www.deadlettercircus.com to sign up.

Week 1

07/03/10
Well done to you, Sunshine Coast, for supporting live music. Nice to see a good turn out to relatively new venue, Club Envy, where Technical Symplicity, Rob Stanley and Gandalf the Grey played to an appreciative audience.
There's a review up now for the Club Envy gig, courtesy of Rooster and Rob Stanley. It can be found on the Reviews page.
Drop the Junk 3 was last night. Waiting to hear back from The Lady Throat Killers on how it all went (the last one was awesome).
The Floating Bridges tonight at Ric's Bar in Brisbane. This is the start of a residency for the 6-piece all through March.
I have a feeling Peregian Originals may well be called off, but they are waiting to the 11th hour to make the decision. If they DO go ahead, you'll get The Floating Bridges, Brisbane's Kingfisha and more for FREE from 2pm.
Rob Stanley's debut album is not too far off. The Point caught up with Rob on Friday night, with him telling us that the tracks are being sent down to Melbourne to be mastered (by a member of one of the great Australian bands of the 80s, Icehouse), and the artworks all good to go. Fingers crossed we should be seeing the album in April some time.
Same goes for The Floating Bridges new EP (which were heard unmixed samples of this weekend... sounding very VERY cool).
Nice to see the press release that The Point prepared for the Sunshine Coast invasion of Brisbane last Thursday made it into Time Off.

05/03/10
Despite a weird night on the town in Brisvegas, reports say that the Sunshine Coast Invasion featuring Tranzluzid, Rob Stanley and Morning Gloree went pretty well. Review will be up shortly, courtesy of Rob Stanley.
Club Envy tonight in the MASC Live Room - Technical Symplicity, Rob Stanley and Gandalf the Grey. $8, doors open at 7pm, bands start at 9pm. Club Envy is the newest venue on the Coast, IN MAROOCHYDORE, that has the guts to put on live bands in the current climate. For all those whingers out there saying there's no venues, well, here's your chance to support one. If you're a live music lover, then come along and take in some diverse sounds tonight (Gandalf the Grey - Indie/Alt Rock, Rob Stanley - One Man, One Guitar, One Awesome sound, and Technical Symplicity - Melodic Hard Rock with dashes of Metal). If you're a musician/band, then come along, show your support, and let yourself known to either myself (if you haven't seen the podcasts, then look for the bassist in Technical Symplicity), Mic from MIA Entertainment (he's pretty easy to spot ;) ), or even Alannah from the MASC Live Room. The Point knows that they are looking for more live bands to put on, so think of it this way, if you support them, they'll support you.
Man, those Floating Bridges boys are moving quick. Last weekend they spent three days in the studio with Brian (also known as Melodyssey's sound engineer amongst other things... he will have a profile up on The Point soon enough). The Point saw some footage of the boys in the studio, hearing songs such as Changes, Fire, and Spanish Split and from all accounts, this will be an awesome release. Rohan (bassist for the Bridges) reported this morning that he heard the full, mixed CD last night, and it's sounding good, with Spanish Split being a stand-out. The EP, which is working under the title of 'Fire', is due to be out in April. FoxPR (which The Point operates under) will be designing the artwork for the CD.

03/03/10
Well done to MASC for putting on a very informative and hopefully beneficial forum last night at the Sands. Lots of interesting questions were answered (and dodged), but the general consensus is that we, as musicians need to be aware of these noise regulations (as ridiculous as they are) and comply, but we also need to gather en masse to lobby the local Council to dedicate an Entertainment Precinct on the Coast, much like what was done in Fortitude Valley. Will inform you when a petition is formed when we know.
All interested bands, Club Envy is starting to look for more bands to play the MASC Live Room. All those interested, please contact The Point and we will put you in contact with MIA Entertainment who will be organising some shows. Come along Friday night and come and check the venue out if you haven't already.
This Friday night, Gandalf the Grey (who have also just put up new songs on their myspace), The Vagrant City Scandal, and Technical Symplicity are playing from 9pm. $8 to get in (this goes towards paying for the PA/Sound...). If you want this venue to support you, then SUPPORT IT. They need as many people as they can get to come in and support this night of live music. C'mon Sunshine Coasters... this one is in Maroochydore, so easy as.
Tranzluzid, Morning Gloree and Rob Stanley start the Sunshine Coast Invasion tomorrow night at the Stepp Inn in Brisbane!
Don't forget, Drop the Junk 3 is on this Saturday night at the Coolum Beach Hotel. Chill out and get your groove on. Details on the Gigs page.

02/03/10
Ablaze Withsin are no more. The Point had heard rumours, but now it is official. According to the message on their myspace, "Unfortunately Ablaze Withsin will no longer continue as a band. Due to problems within the band we have decided at this stage to call it a day. We would like to thank anybody who has come to a show, bought our EP, listened to our songs and videos, put us on a show or helped in anyway. We will keep you posted on any news but at this stage we are no more."
So, this has changed the line-up for Friday night's MONSTROTHIC, with Vyrion stepping in to take their place.
MASC forum tonight. The Point's heading down to see what's happening with the music industry on the Sunshine Coast.

01/03/10
Autumn already???
Big week of Sunshine Coast music this week. We've got Tranzluzid, Rob Stanley and Morning Gloree (along with Brisbane's Levic) invading the Stepp Inn on Thursday (see the press release for it here).
Ablaze Withsin are playing MONSTROTHIC at Rosies on Friday night ($10 entry).
A phenomenal night of local hip hop and reggae at Drop the Junk 3 featuring One Love, The Outlook with Mr Boinkin, The Clay Pavers, The Green Room, The Lady Throat Killers. This is at the Coolum Beach Hotel on Saturday night. $10 gets you in.
Peregian Originals on Sunday from 2pm featuring The Floating Bridges, Brisbane's Kingfisha and more. As always, this is free
And Sunday night, if you're heading to Brisbane you'll catch the The Floating Bridges at their first Ric's Bar performance from 7pm.
Inside word from the Homegrown committee is that some of The Point's favourite bands will be a part of the upcoming Homegrown Festival and a special concert at Kings Beach. Very interesting. Will have more on this once we get the official word.
