It's on at the Sands Tavern, entry is $15, and last time The Point heard it was all ages.

28/06/09 - The Point has some very cool interviews coming up this week, so stay tuned. We start by interviewing Pine Cone Throat from Dead Kelly, which will be interesting, to say the least. Will be up on this week's podcast later in the week.

26/06/09 - Those champions at Moshpit Music in Maroochydore are now stocking Panda Panda Panda merch, as well as Signal the Firing Squad and Wish for Wings merch. Plus, if you haven't already picked up Dead Kelly's 'Cross in the Sky' or Technical Symplicity's 'Orbit', I'm pretty sure Moshpit still have those CDs in stock. If not, ask them.

26/06/09 - Apologies for getting the podcast up late, folks. A lot of traffic on the server, probably due to the great Michael Jackson passing, who knows. However, it is up now, so go have a listen.

25/06/09 - This week's podcast is up. We feature part 2 of the interview with Clint from Melodyssey, and music from The Floating Bridges and Panda Panda Panda. Click here to make your way to the podcasts page.

25/06/09 - Panda Panda Panda and Wingspan will be supporting Gold Coast legends, Mourning Tide at Club Reckless next month. Stay tuned for dates and more info.

24/06/09 - Something massive is coming to The Point, very soon. Trust me, readers, you will love this. Not too many updates tonight as The Point is off to see the new Transformers movie. Yeah!

24/06/09 - The Floating Bridges are hitting the Maroochydore RSL this weekend.

23/06/09 - As part of the Shout Out Loud Festival at the J in Noosa on July 4, eight local bands will be hitting the stage to showcase their talents from 6.30pm to 11pm. Countdown to Armagedon, Parlour Scene, Pure Hybrids, Take Anthia, The Marsdenless, The One Two, Adonis and Vagrant City Scandal will feature on the night.

22/06/09 - Mayfair (formerly From the Hearts of Heroes) have new tracks up now. Go check them out here.

22/06/09 - Australian hardcore legends, Toe to Toe are coming to the Sands on August 22nd, and locals Rite of Passage will be supporting them. If you love your music short, fast and very f***ing loud, don't miss this!

22/06/09 - Adonis (formerly ZAAR) are playing the Sands Tavern this Saturday night. It's FREE entry and doors open at 8pm.

Week 3

21/06/09 - Should have some reviews very soon on last nights Excruciate show at the Sands.

21/06/09 - Clint from Melodyssey is now offering producing/recording for bands. If you want a demo, EP or album done, he can offer rates to suit your budget. Have a talk to him and discuss what you are after. The man knows his music, and can help shape your sound. Email him here.

20/06/09 - Homegrown was still held today, despite that absolutely crap weather. If you went (which you should have), send in a review. Tell us what you thought.

20/06/09 - Technical Symplicity have re-recorded an acoustic version of "Shades of Grey". It will be available for free download soon.

20/06/09 - Sunshine Coast band, From the Hearts of Heroes have changed their name. They are now called Mayfair.

18/06/09 - Managed to get this week's podcast up, despite the flu...YAY! Go check it out. This week we feature part 1 of an interview with Clint from Melodyssey, and new music from Flay the Flesh and The Vagrant City Scandal. Go to the podcasts page and click on the link to listen/download.

17/06/09 - The Point has the flu, so no new updates tonight (except for this one). Stay tuned for podcast late tomorrow night, come wheezy cough and snotty noses.

16/06/09 - Don't forget, the Homegrown Festival is on again this Saturday at Alexandra Headlands. Drawcard, The Vagrant City Scandal, Panda Panda Panda and heaps more very cool bands are playing all day...FOR FREE. Go check it out.

16/06/09 - Unfortunately, the Meat Snorkel/Panda Panda Panda gig at the Sands Tavern this Friday night has been cancelled.

15/06/09 - Woot! Melodyssey have announced new dates, and their coming to the Sands Tavern on Friday August 14 with special guests, Melbourne's Rook, and more to be announced. Stay tuned for details.

15/06/09 - Those legends down at Moshpit Music now have new Signal the Firing Squad merch in stock.

Week 2

14/06/09 - If you're clueless about how you market your band, then go read this blog. Once you've read it you'll probably realise how obvious everything is. Read it here.

14/06/09 - Go vote for Tranzluzid's filmclip for 'Light of Shade' on Channel U, which is part of Channel V (exposing emerging, unsigned bands to a wider audience). Click here to vote.

13/06/09 - As of today, The Point has reached 250 unique visits to the site in just over a month, with close to 1,500 page views. Thanks guys!

13/06/09 - On these cold, cold winter nights, get warm by heading out to see some live music. Sands Tavern tonight has Psycroptik, The Amenta, Ruins, and Ablaze Withsin playing. Warm up by drinking beer, and jumping around to some heavy sounds.
Feel free to send The Point any reviews of this gig.

12/06/09 - Club Reckless at the Sands Tavern tonight. HUGE dose of metal/hardcore with Australian legends Carpathian playing, supported by The Hollow (who are using the drummer from Panda Panda Panda from what I have heard). Show support for the local venue. Tickets should still be available at the door.

12/06/09 - Meat Snorkel have put new tracks up on their myspace. The Point has yet to hear them (we've been busy sorting out this vodcast issue), but will definitely feature some new material soon.

12/06/09 - Yay! The Vodcast is up. Go check it out for your weekly The Point fix, on the podcasts page.

11/06/09 - Anyone going to local gigs this weekend...send us a review! We don't care if it's only 3 paragraphs long and has crap grammar...we can fix that. We want to know what you thought of local shows. Send all reviews to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au.

11/06/09 - Apologies for those expecting a new podcast up tonight. Have spent the last 2 hours editing the new 'vodcast' which shoud be up tomorrow night. Don't fret, we'll let you know when it's up, here on the news page.

11/06/09 - A few people of asked The Point as to why we don't include a forum on our website. Well, to be honest, from my experience, forums in the music industry don't unite the community, instead they serve as a means for a minority to spew their hatred on to performers who are only seeking acceptance. Want proof? The most awesome Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is a trailblazer for musicians utilising the web and social media, and he's sick of it too. Go read this interesting article and you'll see what we mean - http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.php?9,731489

11/06/09 - The Point received this little bit of news today for all Sunshine Coast bands - "there MAY be a stage for youth at this year's Caloundra Music Festival on the beach at Kings Beach later in the year... last year approx 50,000 people came to this event over the 3 days.... last year there was no youth stage...the caloundra music festival team have advised that along with bands who are of the alternative, indie, folk etc genres...bands interested in playing a youth stage which would include METAL/HARDCORE and all things nice are encouraged to apply...to apply... go to www.caloundramusicfestival.com". So what are you waiting for?

11/06/09 - Bands just starting out (and some that have been in the industry for quite some time) need to know at least the basics as to how to market themselves. The FoxPR blog has some good tips to help get your name out there. Check out the basics on how to write an effective press release, and some of the do's and don'ts of poster design.

10/06/09 - Technical Symplicity have added some alternative versions of their new song 'Shades of Grey' to The Point. Go have a listen on their profile page.

10/06/09 - Apologies for those trying to listen to last week's The Point podcast. That broken link has now been fixed.

09/06/09 - Some more gigs have been announced on the Gigs page. There's an awesome night of Sunshine Coast HipHop coming up at the Sands Tavern on June 26, and then Inferno fires up the Sands on July 4 with Ablaze Withsin, Lynchmada, Lysergic & Idle Theory. Just because we want to, we've added gig posters to the website, so send them on in. Just click on the highlighted links on the gigs page to check the posters.

09/06/09 - Former Sunshine Coast, now Sydney-based DJ, Ryzer will return to the Coast this Friday night for a guest slot at Mooloolaba nightclub 240V. Ryzer's been a busy man with residencies down in Sydney at the Sly Fox, and organising club nights such as TECHnique, as well as slots in the last few years at the Sydney leg of the Big Day Out. Check him out this Friday night.

09/06/09 - Alt/Hard Rockers, Adonis have recorded a new 4 track demo and are hoping to release the new tracks sometime mid-June. The band has also announced a headlining slot at the Sands Tavern on June 27th.

08/06/09 - Sunshine Coast punks, Rite of Passage are playing this Thursday night at Brisbane's Club 299.

08/06/09 - If anyone went to the Panda Panda Panda, This Collision, Misdirection, Epidemic...Over, Temple Mount, Fire Driver, Forever March show (wow that was long...) and wants to submit a review (even if it's only a few paragraphs) send it to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au. Don't worry about spelling, grammar etc, as we'll fix all that up here. Photos would be good too.

08/06/09 - Took some footage of Technical Symplicity and The Floating Bridges performing at the Loud 09 Finals, as well as some amusing on the road antics, which we'll put into the vodcast later this week.

08/06/09 - A huge well done to The Floating Bridges and Technical Symplicity for their performances at the Loud 09 Finals. Though they didn't come home with the big prize (that went to Beenleigh band, Nine Sons of Dan, who were awesome by the way), they did impress new crowds and had networking opportunities with bands from Gold Coast and Brisbane. Nice job. Highlights of the festival were Melodyssey (always an energetic performance from the Sunshine Coast/Brisbane band), MM9 and Mammal (both of whom played the Sands Tavern last Friday night too).

08/06/09 - Sorry for the lack of updates on the weekend folks, The Point has been busy.

08/06/09 - Happy Birthday to the Ol' Monarch.

Week 1

05/06/09 - Congratulations to Tranzluzid for getting into the finals of the HOMEGROWN GRAND FINAL 2009. Come see what all the fuss is about at the Villa Noosa this Thursday 11th June 2009.

05/06/09 - The Floating Bridges have finally uploaded their profile to The Point. Go check it out in the Blues/Roots/Folk section.

04/06/09 - New podcast for The Point has been added to the podcasts page. This week we chat to Liam & Huddo from Meat Snorkel and feature one of their tracks, as well as brand new material from Dead Kelly. Go check it out! Also, speaking of Dead Kelly, if you like your metal heavy and very, VERY Australian, you should be able to grab a copy of their EP Cross in Our Sky from Moshpit Music in Maroochydore.

03/06/09 - Another project has been added to The Point's band database, with Flay The Flesh 'demon(strating)' some brutal sounds. This project is the product of Sean 'Huddo' Hudson, who most Sunshine Coaster's would recognise from his involvement with bands such as Excruciate (still his main baby), Dead Kelly, Meat Snorkel, and Universal Veil. Check out the track, Open Your Eyes for some awesome riffage.

03/06/09 - I've had a few bands/musicians/DJs contact me lately about getting press releases out for upcoming shows, which is great, but they're leaving it too late for the media to pick up. So, I've added a new blog entry to the FoxPR blog explaining the fundamentals of writing press releases. Go read it as it will definitely help you out.

03/06/09 - The Vagrant City Scandal have had their track, Hypochondriac uploaded to the site. Go download the song, free, from their profile page.

02/06/09 - Due to Technical Symplicity pulling out of this Sunday's show at the Sands Tavern with This Collision, Panda Panda Panda have stepped in to replace them. If you're not going to the Gold Coast to the Loud Festival, go check out 7 awesome bands at the Sands - This Collision, Misdirection, Epidemic...Over, Panda Panda Panda and more. Tix are $15 at the door and doors open 5pm.

02/06/09 - This Sunday (June 7th) Technical Symplicity and The Floating Bridges will be heading down to the Gold Coast to take part in the Loud 09 Festival with The Butterfly Effect, Mammal, MM9 and more. Because it is a 'brotherly affair' (Rohan from Technical Symplicity and Cale from The Floating Bridges), the bands have organised a bus for the day to take all the members, bands' guests, and their equipment. There will be some spare seats available, so if you're heading down to the Loud Festival and don't want to drive, you can grab a lift with the bands for $50 per person. If you're interested, contact Technical Symplicity via their myspace or email in the next 24 to 48 hours.

01/06/09 - The Point has survived its first month and is gaining momentum. 150 unique views, and 850 page views, which is awesome. So, thank you to those that have supported this website in its first month.

01/06/09 - If you're wondering where all the latest news articles have gone, they've been put into the Archives Section.
