26/01/11
That was one hell of an Orstraya Day!
A lot of The Point crew got together at Floating Bridges HQ for cricket and Hottest 11 goodness. Ryzer, CloneBoy and more ripped it up at Cotton Tree, bringing some tasty Dubstep to the masses, so hopefully we'll have a review for that one (Ryzer seriously got a major T-shirt Tan and appears to have RSI in his shoulder from doing the 'DJ Arm').
The Point would like to congratulate Dead Letter Circus for reaching 99 and 65 for Big and One Step in the Hottest 100. Nice work.
The Floating Bridges have reported that recording for the next CD is going well, with Dub Song sounding 'massive'. Rumour has it they'll be working on a filmclip shortly as well. The boys are getting really busy, having already clocked up 16 shows since the end of December.

Sweet Relief is a one day outdoor music festival whose main aim is to raise $25,000 to donate to the QLD Government flood relief appeal. A joyful collision of rock, hip hop, melodic pop, roots reggae, and electronic dance set across two stages in the natural surrounds of the Noosa Heads parklands. The event encapsulates contemporary music, festival colour and excitement that will captivate audiences of all ages. (*-Yes, we took that little snippet verbatim from the facebook page - Ed.) Big week of music coming your way folks... so best get ready.
19/01/11
There will be some breaking news in the next 24 hours hopefully, involving one of The Point's favourite bands and a big show coming up.
So many flood benefit gigs helping those in need. Another one to add to your calender is on next Thursday night, Jan 27th at the Pig'n'Whistle in Maroochydore, featuring The Floating Bridges, Kindread, in2nation, Jen Mize and more. One massive night of music for a great cause.
At last, Alternative Night has found a new home. The Pig'n'Whistle in Maroochydore will be running Alt Night from February 3rd, with the first acts being Carl Wockner and Cat Magic, plus a massive Open Mic session afterwards. SUPPORT THIS NIGHT!

18/01/11
Finally, some real summer heat.
The Kombi Killers have just added a few dates to the Gigs page, including one at the Prince of Wales in Nundah this Friday night, with other Coast punks, Myrtle Place, and more. The Kombi Killers have been, well, killing it in the local/Bris punk scene in the last 12 months. Get out there and let us know what you think.
More Flood Benefit gigs are popping up. Not sure what to make of it, as in either overkill, or overwhelming support. Whatever the case, as long as the money is going to those that need it, and you folks get some mighty good entertainment in the process.
Keen for some DLC this Friday night? They've just added a new online store for you to get some tasty wares. Click here to visit.
Big Flood Fundraiser show this Friday night at the Kings Beach Tavern with the Holding Hearts Above High Water event kicking off at 7pm. Huge line-up including Drawn from Bees, The Vagrant City Scandal, Transvaal Diamond Syndicate and more.
*Note from the Editor - Just want you guys to know that due to certain commitments coming up, I will be stretching myself even moreso to keep updating The Point, so if it goes a few days without an update, don't freak out, it's just that I'm busy elsewhere. However, what I can say is that The Point will be taken to other places this year, thus more exposure, thus more hits and more awareness for Sunshine Coast music in general. Hold on to your pants, and just be patient. Cheers - Ed.
17/01/11
UPDATE - Just spoke to Ryzer and he provided another update on the fundraising event happening soon for the victims of the floods. Sweet Relief (cool name) will be going ahead in Noosa, with special thanks to Madills Noosaville for covering the Public Liability Insurance, Bunnings in Noosa for providing much needed financial support, the legends at Various Artists in Maroochydore will be providing the design work, Noosa Catch will provide office space, Kennard's Hire will provide fencing, Suttons Cleaning Service will cart away all the poop, Noosa Blue will be providing accommodation for performing artists, and added to the line-up will be Boogie Shoes, Ryzer V Cloneboy, Dallas Frasca, and more to be announced. This will be a family-friendly event to raise funds for those affected by the floods. The PA has been arranged, but Sweet Relief are putting the call out for any sound engineers that would like to donate their time for this event. Interested engineers please email the team at sweetrelief.fundraiser@gmail.com
Peregian Originals kicked into 2011 in style with a massive show yesterday. All reports stating that The Floating Bridges and OKA had the crowd frothing. Let's keep these rolling with the Nambour Originals too.
There appears to be more Flood Benefit concerts being organised, with another possible one slated for next week at a Maroochydore venue. Once confirmed, we'll let you know.
Fans of Thousand Needles in Red (TBE's Clint Boge's other band) can rejoice, as the band are coming back to the Coast in March with a show at the Villa Noosa slated for the 4th.
Speaking of the Villa Noosa, rumour has it that regular local live bands are being welcomed back to the venue. The Point has been asked to pass the message on to any bands that are interested in playing to contact us and we'll put you in the right direction. Unfortunately, this does not include metal bands, as due to certain noise restrictions, the venue believes it's too hard to control the volume of noise you metal kids pump out.
Leave a message on our Facebook page, or shoot us an email at editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au if your band (or DJ) is interested.
Another healthy rumour is that there could very well be a new TV show being produced here on the Coast with the aim of pushing the profile of local live acts. The Point may or may not be involved in said production, but will let you know in due course.
15/01/11
A late update tonight.
The Floating Bridges are getting busy up in Hervey Bay right now, but have just announced that they will be playing Peregian Originals tomorrow with OKA and more. Make the most of the sunny weather, and shake off the wet-weather blues.
The Point can let it be known that there is another Drop the Junk coming up. The fourth in the series, this one will be a killer with rumoured line-up to include Kindread, The Floating Bridges and The Greenroom. Surely, there will be more announced, so stay tuned.
Congratulations to the bands that competed in tonight's Maleny Battle of the Bands, in particular to Stryder and Morning Gloree who took out first and second places respectively. A hell of a lot of young talent on the Coast, so it's great to see.
The Point can confirm now that another Flood Benefit concert being organised won't feature any local bands, unfortuntately, but the organisers have pulled in the big guns, scoring Jimmy Barnes, Butterfingers and... wait for it.. The Wiggles. These are all fully to be confirmed, but it's looking good so far.
The Point is also welcoming Ryzer into the fold as a member of The Point Sunshine Coast team. It's getting bigger, and he's spreading the word. Ryzer has also scored slots playing the front bar at Fridays on certain nights, so if you're into your club music and sick of hearing the Top 40 remix crap, go watch Ryzer do his craft, as he's known to take electronic music on a few different tangents during his sets.
Dead Letter Circus this coming Friday night. It's going to be a big gig, kiddies, and get there early to see Techical Symplicity playing a once-off support slot. The boys have got back together for one more show, and will be playing first up.
Speaking of Dead Letter Circus... have you voted for them in the Triple J Hottest 100? The Point highly recommends that you do.
13/01/11
With all the devastation going on with the QLD Floods, it was only a matter of time before the fundraising events started to appear. The Point is even jumping on board with one such event, with details to be released soon.

The boys from Epidemic...Over have had to pull out of supporting A Family of Strangers (Glenn from The Butterfly Effect's other band) at the Tewantin/Noosa RSL this Saturday, so The Secret Silence have stepped in to fill the gap. Definitely go check out this band. We've got their CD here (still to be reviewed.. sorry guys - *Ed), and they're a good healthy slab of alternative hard rock. Don't miss it.
If you're an Ezekiel Ox fan (vocalist from Mammal, Full Scale), then fear not, as Over-Reactor are coming to Club Envy in February. Go check out their website - www.over-reactor.com and have a good ol' listen. Fans of old MM9, Mammal, etc will love this stuff. Over-Reactor play Club Envy on February 17 with Perspektiv and Galaxy.
Kindread have been announced to play the Nambour Moonlight Markets on February 25th. This will be a free show and will feature more local bands/artists.

Happy Birthday to Declan and to Jye.
The Point has noticed that Tewantin/Noosa RSL have started to crank out the live bands, with Epidemic...Over, A Family of Strangers and The Vagrant City Scandal kicking things off on January 15. Numbers Radio will be heading there at the end of January as well.
Bit of bad news this one - Alternative Night at Hotel Maroochydore has been cancelled (boooooooo). After four years of pushing/unearthing talent, the new owners have decided that the night isn't viable (*WTF? Did they not see how many people were there at the Xmas party??? - Ed.). The Point would just like to thank Deb and Brett for their hard work and dedication, and support they have shown for so many artists on the Sunshine Coast. But don't fret, it will have a new home soon.
Kindread were stoked to see that their clip for 'Free World' debuted on Rage on New Years Eve. Sweet! Nice work!

All artists that have shows coming up, can you send through details please (and promoters too).

The Point's got a few CDs to get in and review over the next few days, so keep an eye out for those reviews as well.
The Floating Bridges have been absolutley ripping over the Christmas/New Year break, with standout performances at Woodford, as well as a massive show at the New Year's Eve party on Mooloolaba's Main Stage last night. Check the video on the front page to see them in action. Nice work, lads. We heard all of the Sunshine Coast bands did themselves proud. The Editor was up on Alex Hill last night waiting for the fireworks and could hear the Bump DJs absolutely rocking the crowd.
