January 2010
Week 4
31/01/10
Apologies for the lack of podcasts lately, but The Point has been busy with other projects, but will promise to have one up soon (most likely the beginning of this week).
Those Old Soles will invade Brisbane this afternoon, so if you're down that way, head to the Music Kafe in West End and witness the debut of this blues trio.
Spent a good part of last night helping to design The Floating Bridges new poster which you can view here. This will be their generic poster, so get used to seeing it quite a bit (*Ed's note - myspace address and The Point address have since been added to the poster).
Next week will be massive for Sunshine Coast music, with the End of Summer Stomp at Kings Beach Tavern (featuring Grandma's Basement, Fire Driver, Take Anthia and heaps heaps more) on this coming Saturday, Excruciate, Idle Theory and more supporting some big BRUTAL touring bands at Rosie's MONSTROTHIC in Brisbane on Friday, and the final Live@The Rolling Rock on next Sunday with Rob Stanley, Bloodspot and Electrik Dynamite.

Week 3
28/01/10
Sunshine Coast Uni night is back! This time, it's moved to new Maroochydore nightclub, ENVY, in Ocean St.
The Ailment tomorrow night with In Heart's Wake and The Bride at the Price St Hall in Nambour. All Ages.
New blues trio Those Old Soles head to Brisbane to play the Music Kafe in West End on Sunday from 5pm. They are now doing 2 sets.
RUMOUR HAS IT: That one of The Point's favourite favourite bands MAY just be getting signed to a local indie label. Nothing confirmed yet, but this is very cool news.
27/01/10
There's a new review up now from The Rolling Rock gig last Sunday, courtesy of the one and only Rob Stanley.
It was pretty disappointing that Dead Letter Circus didn't even get a look in into this year's JJJ Hottest 100 (to be honest, a lot of the top songs were disappointing).
Speaking of DLC, The Point spoke briefly with drummer, Luke 'Licka' Williams on the progress of the new DLC album is going. He basically said that the album has had a slight delay, but will still be ready for a May release and that the album 'is sounding very cool'. He's a man of his word. Can't wait to hear it.
26/01/10
Happy Australia Day! I'm guessing the majority of you, who happen to have this glorious day off to celebrate our great nation (unlike me who was one of the suckers that had to work) are drinking, having a good time, and hopefully taking in JJJ's Hottest 100.
Inside info from Mic from MIA - The very last Live@The Rolling Rock on Feb 7th (featuring Rob Stanley, Bloodspot and Electrik Dynamite) will now also have a special performance from Inhailed.
Mayfair are looking for a girl to act in their new film clip that is getting shot this weekend coming on the Sunshine Coast. If you're interested, contact them via their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mayfairaus) ASAP as it is only a few days away.
25/01/10
Congrats to Mic from MIA for putting on a great show last night at The Rolling Rock. Those that missed out - your loss.
Very cool to see Des (formerly from Blunt Object) out the front of Inhailed.
Night of Aussie Hip Hop tonight at the Jubilee Hotel in Brisbane, featuring The Winnie Coopers, The Lady Throat Killers, and more.
Free show at the Sands Tavern tomorrow for Australia. Check out the Gigs page for details.
RUMOUR HAS IT: That Nambour may be the new location for a night of live music. More on this when The Point knows more.
The Ailment, In Heart's Wake and The Bride show has been moved from the Black Box to the Price St Hall for the 29th Jan.
Getting a very cool response from the poster The Point put up of Those Old Soles. Be sure to check them out, if not on the 31st of Jan at the Music Kafe in Brisbane, they'll be playing on the Coast very soon.
23/01/10
Rolling Rock tomorrow night for a big intake of metal/hard rock. The Point has mentioned this gig enough times for it to sink in now. 6pm, $10. Technical Symplicity, Inhailed, and touring bands Dawn Heist & Simiadei (from NSW).
A few days ago, The Point mentioned that bluesman Rohan Nitschke now has formed a trio to play his songs. Well, The Point is proud to present to you the very first look at Rohan's troop, now called Those Old Soles (as in the bottom of shoes). Click here to check out the first poster for the Jan 31st gig at the Music Kafe in Brisbane.
22/01/10
The Floating Bridges EP review is now up.
Panda Panda Panda are playing tonight in Kallangur with a huge line-up, and on the local front, Fire Driver are playing the Sands Tavern with Buggirl, He-Man Women Eaters, and Myrtle Place.
You can catch Blush (featuring Emily Thompson) tomorrow from 1pm in Doonan, and The Floating Bridges playing the Music Kafe in Brisbane. For more info head to the Gigs page.
Word is that there's a 'secret' party happening tonight with Drawcard and many more acts/DJs playing. The Point knows details, but isn't telling :P

Week 2
21/01/10
Two new gigs added and one cancelled. The big night of metal on Feb 25th at the Sands Tavern featuring Meat Snorkel, Daysend etc has been cancelled by the venue (Sands Tavern - booooooo), but never fear as Meat Snorkel have another show at the great Metal of Honour at Rosies in Brisbane with a whole crapload of bands. There's an Australian Day show at the Sands Tavern too - featuring The Daisycutters, Dunsinane, Adonis and more.
Last night was the first jam of the new Rohan Nitschke trio (working on names at the moment). Rohan's decided he wants a bass player and drums playing with him. One whole set is already jammed out in one night, so you can catch the debut of Rohan performing within the trio (featuring The Floating Bridges' Cale on drums and yours truly on bass) on Jan 31st at the Music Kafe in Brisbane for free.
19/01/10
Slight correction to the Panda Panda Panda gig on Friday night. Turns to Ashes is no longer on the bill, but the following are - Time Has Come, Sentiments, All My Friends at Sea, Draw Your Lines and Get Up November. $12 from 5pm at Kallangur Hall, Kallangur (in Brisbane).
A little word from our friend, Pine Cone Throat on the new stuff from Dead Kelly -
"THE NEW DEAD KELLY TRACK IS GONNA BLOW YOUR BEER COOLER RIGHT OFF YOU STUBBIE!!!!! ITS GONNA MAKE YOU SH*T FIVE CUBE OF ROAD BASE. ITS GONNA MAKE YOU WANT TO GIVE THE BUSH TUCKER MAN A RUSTY TRUMPET" - PCT.
18/01/10
Wow! The Point fanpage on Facebook has gained nearly 200 fans in one week. That's awesome. Again, props to Elliot for the suggestion.
There may be an opportunity coming up for blues/roots/world musicians to play a local festival that needs that type of music as entertainment. The Point will follow this up and have more news soon.
Idle Theory are ripping it up on the JJJ Unearthed Charts with songs that are #76 and #89 on the overall charts, and #10 and #11 on the Metal Charts. Well done, lads. Pity that JJJ Unearthed doesn't actually RECOGNISE the Sunshine Coast as a region, with Coast bands being lumped under the Brisbane region. Pffft.
17/01/10
Congratulations to January's Artist of the Month for The Point. Who is it exactly? Click here to find out.
Not much news today as most of you will probably be at the Big Day Out.
16/01/10
The Floating Bridges will be heading into the studio in 3 weeks to record a new EP (even though their first was only released last month - still waiting for a copy to review, guys). Tracks most likely to appear on the recording will be crowd favourites Fire, Spanish Split (incorrectly referred to by The Point as Spanish Twist) and 2 more tracks.
Going live tonight from 7pm on their myspace page will be The Marsden Lees new 4 track demo. Click here to access their myspace.
New review for Idle Theory's 2 track demo is now up if you haven't read about it on Facebook yet.
Hopefully going to catch up with Morning Gloree tonight and try and have a quick interview with them.
15/01/10
Inhailed have a new singer. Des from Blunt Object (brilliant metal band on the Coast from early to mid 00's) will be adding some brutality to their already thick sound. Nice. You can check out Inhailed on Jan 24th at The Rolling Rock, with Technical Symplicity, Dawn Heist (NSW) and Simiadei (NSW). Shitloads of GIVEAWAYS, promo girl, plus the gig will be recorded. Huge night, and it's the last BIG night of metal at the Rock, some come along and enjoy. $10 from 6pm.
Next weekend will be a big weekend of music for Coast bands, with Panda Panda Panda and more playing the Kallangur Hall in Brisbane from 5pm for $12 on the 22nd (Friday night). Also on the Friday night, Fire Driver, Myrtle Place and more playing the Sands Tavern from 8pm. Saturday the 23rd of Jan you can catch Blush (featuring Emily Thompson) at the Alfresco Cafe in Doonan from 1pm, and The Floating Bridges at the Music Kafe in Brisbane from 10pm. And of course, the last BIG Live@The Rolling Rock.
14/01/10
Melodyssey have been working on new material to follow up 2008's brilliant, The Two Windows. Oh. Hell. Yeah.
In surprising news, The Floating Bridges have parted ways with their bass player Fee, with Rohan Nitschke filling in.
January 24th's show at The Rolling Rock is looking to be a big one, with plenty of GIVEAWAYS. This one starts earlier due to the bigger line-up, including touring bands from NSW.
Very impressed with how quickly the The Point page on Facebook gained fans. Thanks guys (and thanks to Elliot for the suggestion).

Week 1
13/01/10
Been informed by Mic from MIA Entertainment that there will be GIVEAWAYS at the next Live@The Rolling Rock at Noosa on Jan 24th. This one will be a big one, featuring 2 touring bands from NSW, as well as local acts Technical Symplicity and Inhailed. Starts at 6pm.
Mic also let me know that the Live@The Rolling Rock events are at risk of being shut down if numbers are down, so PLEASE come out and support this night of music. It's cheap, you get good bands, and you're supporting locals.
There could be a night of live music starting up in Nambour soon, so stay tuned.
Rohan Nitschke's hitting the Music Kafe in Brisbane again at the end of this month and he's taking the Editor, as well as his brother Cale (from The Floating Bridges) as a backing band. You can catch all 3 of us playing on Jan 31st.
12/01/10
Email issues are now sorted. Please continue to send any correspondence to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au
Review of Sunday night's Live@The Rolling Rock is up now (well, part of it). Review by the one and only Rob Stanley, plus some more bits coming from Rohan Nitschke's point of view.
Who will be January's Artist of the Month? Hopefully will have that done tonight.
Emily Thompson's outfit, Blush, will be playing at Alfresco Cafe, Eumundi-Noosa Rd, Doonan on Saturday, Jan 23rd from 1pm. BYO Esky, Alcohol, rug, $$$ for yummy food. Kid Friendly venue.
The Point now has a Facebook fanpage, which is also connected to Twitter, so you can get on the page, check out the updates, and get in on the discussions with other The Point followers.
Will be catching up with the Morning Gloree boys on the weekend, and hopefully will have an interview with them.
Go check out the gig guide now and see the swathe of gigs added today.
11/01/10
We are currently having issues with receiving emails. While this is being fixed, all emails can be sent to rhys@foxpr.com.au for the time being.
Thanks,
Ed.
Congratulations to the bands that ripped at last night's Live@The Rolling Rock. Morning Gloree impressed with their set of originals and an eclectic mix of covers (not bad considering it was one of their first major gigs), Rob Stanley melted faces with his blistering guitar work, and Idle Theory finished of the brutalisation of the Rolling Rock. Too bad for those that missed it, but video footage will feature in this week's Podcast, and there will be a review coming soon too.
A whole heap of gigs will be going up in the next 24 hours.
10/01/10
The Point will be filming at Live@The Rolling Rock tonight, and will be interviewing random punters to get their take on the night's performances, as well as their thoughts on what should be happening on the Sunshine Coast music scene.
RUMOUR HAS IT: That there very well may be a version of Peregian Originals to be based in Nambour. This would be very VERY cool. As soon as we know more, we'll let you know.
The Point happened to be out celebrating a rellie's birthday in Mooloolaba last night when who did we see play live at the Surf Club? The ultra cool Shake It Up Allstars. Mark, Todd and Co. were ripping through the covers and were damn well entertaining. NICE.
It seems that quite a lot of people would like to see some Dub happening. Well, we now have quite a bit of interest for band members, so we'll get things started soon. We now have Guitar, Bass, Keys/Samples, and Vox (plus offers of triangle playing), so all we really need is drums/percussion and some brass. Interested? contact us.
09/01/10
Mic from MIA Entertainment has informed The Point that he and Lachy from Brisbane's The C*nt Offensive are preparing to make a full frontal attack on the Brisbane scene with Sunshine Coast bands. Given that opportunities for bands on the Coast appear to be slimming at the moment, this will be an awesome chance for some Sunshine Coast bands that don't necessarily have the connections other Coast bands do when it comes to hitting the Brisbane scene.
08/01/10
Melodyssey will be heading down to Mexico, sorry, Melbourne soon to help be a part of Melbourne band Rook's final shows.
Excruciate are bringing a level of brutality when they hit Monstrothic at Rosies in Brisbane tonight.
Rob Stanley (who's playing at The Rolling Rock on Sunday night) has released a new song (maybe in honour of The Point ... muhahahaha). Click here and go listen to his track "Point Outlook" and download it!
07/01/10
Excruciate are playing with Rookwood, Moon and Lustration at MONSTROTHIC at Rosies in Brisbane tomorrow night.
Rob Stanley has had another Live@The Rolling Rock date added. He is now not only playing Jan 10th (with Morning Gloree and Idle Theory), but also Feb 7th with Electrik Dynamite and Bloodspot.
The Point will have a new addition to the team shortly. Going to keep it a surprise for now.
The Point Dubstars (working name at the moment) are looking for a vocalist/s, drummer/percussionist, and if possible some Brass players. Bass, Guitar and Keys/Samples have been sorted out, and we want to bring some deep, deep dub to the Sunshine Coast, so if you're keen, send an email to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au, stating who you are, what you play and your contact details.
05/01/10
Dead Letter Circus have given an album update. It's now up to the mixing and mastering stages, with mixing starting on the 10th and mastering on the 20th. We can also look forward to another single to coincide with their tour in February, so keep an ear out for that. In the meantime, don't forget to vote for 'The Space on the Wall' in Triple J's Hottest 100.
Thanks to Vicki and Jack for another review on Live@The Rolling Rock, with this one featuring Navaho Joe, Tranzluzid and Forms of Recreation. It's up now.
03/01/10
Sunshine Coast metallers, Idle Theory have joined the ranks here at The Point, so a huge welcome to the fellas. They've been doing great things down Brisbane way, and occasionally play up here. You can catch them next Sunday, January 10 at Live@The Rolling Rock. Go check out their profile now up.
1pm today, if you're not all partied out, head down to Peregian Beach for a cruisey dose of Peregian Originals - first one for the year.
02/01/10
Happy New Year to all The Point followers.
Been busy doing up a Best Of compilation of both The Point and Pine Cone Throat, so you can check these out on the Podcasts page.
Back to business now after the festive season. Next Sunday, January 10th at Live@The Rolling Rock you can check out Morning Gloree, Idle Theory and Rob Stanley, LIVE, from 7pm for $5.
More Live@The Rolling Rock gigs have been put up in the Gigs section.
