Hey all you young musicians! Last call for applications for the free workshop this Tuesday night. Monday will be the cut-off for registration. If you want to know if you're doing the right thing with bios/EPKs/touring/promotion etc, then you don't want to miss this. The Point will be on the panel to help out. Click on the AMPED mini-poster below (front page) and register now!
Nambour Originals are back in swing today. What better way to kick things off than to have The Floating Bridges AND Hayden Hack Infusion (and more) from 1pm. Take a blanket, take some loose change to donate and enjoy!
Great turnout to Nambour Moonlight Markets last Friday night. The Marsden Lees were welcomed back after a short break, with style. Cat Magic entranced, and Kindread grooved the rest of the night away.
Rock'n'Roots is coming soon. A mini-festival at Kings Beach Tavern featuring A French Butler Called Smith, Kindread, Chocolate Strings, Cleveland Blues and the Red Eye Junction, The Floating Bridges and Revolution Sunday. March 12th will be a massive night ho homegrown roots, rock and reggae.

Originals Night tonight at the Pig'n'Whistle. Catch Adam Scriven (the guy is amazing) and The MAP Project from 8pm for FREE. Open mic from 9.30pm. As always, a good chance to test out new material (hint hint).
Wow... the new Drawcard single, 'We Won't Break' has been getting a flogging here at The Point HQ. Nice work on the production, lads. Get your mits on the mp3 by tweeting or facebooking for it in exchange here. Do it. Add it to your library. It's good.
Big thanks to those who wished the Editor a Happy Birthday yesterday. (*Got rather drunk on Red and good vibes from The Point crew - thanks to Roh, Wade, Elish, Tomina, Ash & Megan, and Dr Bob for sharing it with me last night - Ed).
A big pointy birthday to Mr Tonks. A little b'day present from the Tonks to the rest of you who are into your DLC, check out this video of Kim from DLC singing Maynard's part in 'Passenger' with the one and only Deftones at the Perth BDO. Click here to see it.
Nambour Moonlight Markets tomorrow from 4.30pm... come down to Nambour town and check out Kindread, The Marsden Lees and Cat Magic for FREE. Support local music.
Nambour Originals is back this Sunday (good recovery session for those going to Soundwave) featuring The Floating Bridges, Hayden Hack Infusion and more from 1pm. Don't forget your loose change to donate to the cause.

Happy Birthday to Elliot, and to The Editor.
Big news in the last 24 hours... young surf punks come screamo kids Morning Gloree have parted ways with their drummer. They are now looking for some urgently to fill the drummer's seat. Interested? Contact them via their facebook page.
Here at The Point we are very excited to finally see some productivity from the Locavore crew (who we think are now flying the flag for Sunshine Coast prog). Can't wait to hear the final product. Go check out some shenanigans in the studio here.
Nambour Full Moon Markets coming this Friday night with Kindread, The Marsden Lees and Cat Magic putting on a free show in the ampitheatre. Get down there early.
Free workshop next week where music industry regulars (including the Editor from The Point) will be on hand to help direct upcoming musicians in the way of the force. We'll be working on Bios and how you can stand out. For more info, click on the AMPED mini-poster on the front page.

Happy Birthday to Minor Elite manager extreme, Elly.
Back from a quick tour down south. Met some interesting music types, got a lot of bands interested in visiting the Sunshine Coast and checking out our talent, and made some good contacts down there in Adelaide at the Fuse Festival.
While in recovery mode, we heard that Peregian Originals went absolutely off yesterday. Great to hear. Don't forget, it's the return of Nambour Originals this coming Sunday, featuring The Floating Bridges and more.
While Rob Stanley and Lance Howard are in the recording phase of Spiralsiren's triumphant debut, here at The Point HQ we've been playing Rob's 'Those Crazy Bees'. Awesome, spinout of a track. We highly recommend it.
Nambour's Moonlight Markets will be cranking this Friday evening with free perfomances from Kindread, The Marsden Lees and Cat Magic. Get down there early to the ampitheatre. Crew from The Point will be around, so come and say Hi.
Just in today, Kings Beach Tavern will be hosting The Intrepids, My Escapade and Matty Rice's new band, Gundogs this Friday night. Definitely be worth checking out.
ATTENTION BANDS - applications for Homegrown are NOW OPEN. Want to be a part of one of the most fun music festivals on the Coast? Click here to apply. Highly recommended (and good luck!)

Hope you all had a great Van Halen's Day yesterday.
A whole heap of episodes of Point TV are coming your way over the few weeks. To kick things off, there are two episodes up featuring The Floating Bridges and The Lady Throat Killers.
The Point website will be on leave until Sunday (as the Editor will be on tour with Kindread), so for all your updates, stay tuned to our Facebook page for regular shinanigans from Ryzer, Rohan and Rhys.
Stryder support The Unofficials this weekend with Cat Magic at the Kings Beach Hotel. Get along to see the new wave of Coast talent in one night.
Another great Flood Relief Benefit on this weekend at Greenslopes Bowls Club, featuring the likes of Kombi Killers, Myrtle Place, Messiam, Embrace Eternity and tonnes more for only $15.
The Greenroom are heading into the studio, recording with Brian Goodworth up in Coolum. The boys have accepted the challenge thrown down by The Floating Bridges to fill the recycling bin in the first 2 days with empties. (Not that we're endorsers of binge drinking here, but that would still be awesome to see).

Absolutely massive night was had at Drop the Junk last night. Thanks to Mic for putting on one hell of a show. All the bands/artists ripped it up. There's now a review up on our Blog (click on the red W up the top), and there will be plenty of footage going up in the next few days. Lots of looseness.
Peregian Originals is back this coming Sunday, February 20, featuring Ruby Blue, The Barleyshakes, The Buzzbees and more. Also, Nambour Originals returns on February 27 with The Floating Bridges, Hayden Hack Infusion and more. The main thing though, is that ALL of you who go to these FREE events... please dig deep and buy raffle tickets (cheap as) or donate. It costs the organisers money to put these shows on for you for free, so the least you could do is buy a couple of raffle tickets.
Catching up with some of the artists at Drop the Junk last night we found out there's some material coming our way soon. Actually, in fact, we have a leaked copy of the new Lady Throat Killers album in our hands right now... but we're not sharing sounds just yet. However, we will review it and whet your appetite. Hot hip hop artist, Kudos also has an album coming soon. The guy is insanely talented, so keep an eye out for that.
Valentine's Day tomorrow. So which musos will go the serenading route?
Coming this week (check the Gigs page for further details) - Over-reactor (featuring Ezekiel Ox from Mammal) at the Kings Beach Tavern, The Unofficials/Stryder/Cat Magic on the 18th at Kings Beach Tavern, and more
Kindread are disappearing down to Adelaide this week to play the Fuse Festival, then heading to Melbourne, so there won't be any website updates from Tuesday till Sunday this week (for obvious reasons). Facebook updates will still continue, however.
10/02/11
Nambour Originals is back! They're letting the grounds dry out a little, but mark down February 27th on your calender and head on down to Quota Park from 1pm. Don't forget to donate.
The Point wishes Emma Naylor a happy birthday for yesterday. Emma is a kick arse photographer, all-round top chick, and better half to Idle Theory's Adam (we recommend you check out her photography... just 'like' Emma Naylor Photographer on Facebook).
Messiam (and pretty much the rest of the film-loving Sunshine Coast) are eagerly awaiting the release of locally made horror flick, 'Come and Get Me'. Messiam feature on the soundtrack (as well as main man Brad's cameo in the movie).
Drop The Junk tomorrow night at Coolum Beach Hotel from 9pm. Get ready for a huge night of roots, reggae, dub, funk and rock with the likes of The Floating Bridges, Kindread, in2nation and more. It's also the launch of the triumphant SolBar. Get into it.
Spiralsiren, a most awesome project featuring Rob Stanley and Lance Howard (Melodyssey/Dead Kelly) are heading into the studio and pressing the record button very soon. Oh man, we can't wait for that one.

Newest member to The Point team, Ryzer, has submitted a review on the Australia Day Dub Beach Party of Dan Dan's. Sounds like it was one hell of a party. Head to the Reviews page and check it out.
Those of you following regularly on Facebook may have noticed an update today asking for bands' Facebook pages. Basically, here at The Point WE source the news... very rarely do the bands send something in (apart from some of the more proactive lot - you know who you are), so we trowl through the internets and googles and find the news ourselves. As you can imagine, this is very time consuming, especially for something that we don't get paid for. So... we're already following quite a few of you on Facebook, but if you are in a band, AND have a Facebook page, then link us up and keep us updated.
Original Night at the Pig'n'Whistle this Thursday night will feature The Sky Pilots, and Coast faves, The Flumes. This kicks off from 7.30pm and is free.
Don't forget, the massive night of music that is Drop The Junk is this Saturday night. The Floating Bridges, Kindread, in2nation, Lady Throat Killers, Kudos, and more. It WILL be huge, as this is organiser Mick's last hurrah (for a while anyway). Let's make it a big one.
Thousand Needles in Red (Clint from The Butterfly Effect's other band) are returning to the Villa Noosa on March 4th, with support from Helm, The Vagrant CIty Scandal and Drawcard.

Wow, didn't realise it was 6 days between updates. Apologies!
A lot of big shows happened over the weekend with Retribution tearing SE Qld a new hole, the Lighthouse Party going off, The Floating Bridges packing out Ric's Bar in Brisbane, Kindread touring all over Byron, and Peregian Originals rocking it.
Speaking of Peregian Originals, it has been noted that though the crowds there are awesome, the lack of contribution (ie donations, raffles etc) by the particularly younger crowd is a little disturbing. Remember folks, this event, though free, costs money to run. The artists get paid, and it costs money to set up. Dig deep, kids. Only a few spare dollars from each of you will make this work.
Drop the Junk... the Finale is on this Saturday night at the Coolum Beach Hotel. One massive night of roots, reggae, dub and hip hop to fill the soul and shake your butt. The Floating Bridges, Kindread, in2nation, The Lady Throat Killers and more... from 8pm till late.
For all you potential event managers out there - looking for experience? If you're aged between 12 to 30 years old (due to it being all wrapped up with National Youth Week), there is an Event Management Workshop on this Thursday in Maroochydore. Get involved with the likes of Raw Sounds and Homegrown Festival. Click here to check out more info on this workshop on Facebook.
We know this is late/old news, but the Lestrange gig that WAS to be held last Friday night (but got cancelled due to injury and loss of a band member), will be rescheduled for a three to five show run. Barrage in the Garage will feature the likes of Lestrange, Morning Gloree, Dunsinane, Rivalry, and Last Resort. More information on this when we get it.
01/02/11
There will be some very beneficial workshops coming your way in the next month, which The Point and other members of the local Music Industry will be helping out with. Learn the fine art of Bio writing, Press Kits/EPKS, Promoting, Gigging, Social Media and more. We'll provide you with more information in the coming weeks.
The Point and The Floating Bridges' Rohan is pretty excited about the new track from The Bridges. Those familiar with 'Freedom Dub' (the one that goes, oh yo yo yo, oh yo yo yo, no no no... you know the one) will be surprised when the boys release the new look 'Freedom Dub' in March as the first single of the new material.
The Lady Throat Killers' album, 'Broken Pearl Necklace' is getting closer to release. The Point has also found out that one of our own (the very talented Elisha Sando) guests on one of the tracks.
Speaking of Miss Sando, she'll be one of a few artists going over the border and down to Melbourne to perform this month. The singer/songwriter will be performing a short set for the Red Cross Flood Appeal in Federation Square on Feb 12.
Kindread are also heading over the border, firstly this week heading down to Byron Bay for 3 shows, then down to Adelaide and Melbourne at the end of the month.
The Floating Bridges will also be heading down to Byron Bay this week for a show at the Buddha Bar on Thursday night.
It's nearly here... months of planning, publicity, and shamelss plugging on the internets will hopefully see Retribution be one of the biggest metal festivals QLD has seen. If you haven't got your tickets yet, check oztix.com or hit up bands such as Idle Theory, Inhailed, Messiam or Rob Stanley.
Coming up on Feb 12th will be the last Drop the Junk at the Coolum Beach Hotel. Acts rumoured will be Kindread, The Floating Bridges, The Greenroom, in2nation and more.
This Friday night at Club Envy, the next generation of rock will blow you away. Lestrange, Morning Gloree and Last Resort playing from 9pm.
