More gigs added.
Some stunning shows coming up this weekend.
The Pig'n'Whistle plays host to Pink Evolution; a Breast Cancer Fundraiser that will feature artists such as Hayden Hack Infusion, Carl Wockner, MC Wheels, All Strings Attached, Sahara Beck and Jackson Dunn... all raising money for a VERY worthy cause. Starts at 7pm. For more information click here.
Over at the SolBar the same night will be Wild Marmalade with The Mank supporting. Should be a dirty, heaving night.
On the southern end, Spitfire Liar are up on the Coast, with support from Dementia13 and Phantom Lighter Thieves (who still take out one of the best named bands on the coast award... easily).
The Firetree are back on the Coast this Thursday night, playing SolBar with The Flumes and Revolution Sunday.
Well done to Spuhtnik for charging up the Triple J Unearthed Charts as well. Oh, yeah.. also to The Floating Bridges boys too.. 'spose they deserve a well done and all (kidding lads, we love ya).
Don't forget, Open Mic night at SolBar tomorrow night. What talent will be there this week?
28/08/11
Stupid weather can't make up it's mind. Of course it would have to be a beautiful day today AFTER Nambour Originals was cancelled. Oh well... Peregian Originals next week, with rumoured headliners to be The Floating Bridges.
The Point Crew had their 'General Meeting' (read - piss-up, talk sh*t, and listen to music night at Point HQ) last night, and with the Crew altogether (minus Kelstar, who was a little worse for wear), we managed to make our way through three offerings before we got too drunk to be able to type. Go read the blogs put up. We listened to and reviewed The Secret Whisper, Emily Thompson, and The Floating Bridges (well, Roh couldn't do the Bridges for obvious reasons).
We still have more CDs here to get through, so we may have to do another one of these nights.
The Gigs page is being updated, but if you have shows (if you're a Coast act, or playing at a Coast venue), then email us please. editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au - all the details (or what you can actually remember).
25/08/11
Well, Sunshine Coast musicians and music lovers... you're listening!
Point Crew were at SolBar last night for the Open Mic night, and must say, it was busy as f*&k. Not only that, but so much talent getting up there. That crazily talented Swede on the keys... dude.. you rip.
And Lucy and Jade pretty stealing the night with their tasty little tunes. And kudos to Wolf for sharing some spoken word.
Tonight, there's another musical treat for you with Geneveive Chadwick, Matt Southon and Quarry Mountain Dead Rats for $5.
Unfortunately though, tomorrow night's Owl Eyes show has been postponed until October 1st due to illness. So tomorrow night instead will be Split Seconds, The Founds, and The Vagrant City Scandal. Those with Owl Eyes tickets... hang on to them for the Oct 1st show or get a refund from the venue.
Tomorrow, Kindread are heading to Brisbane to play from 5pm to 8pm in the Queen St Mall.
Minor Elite will be having a ball supporting British India tomorrow night at the Noosa Surf Club.
23/08/11
Tuesday night, so that means tomorrow is Open Mic night at SolBar. These nights are getting busier and busier, which is awesome, but also means that if you want to get up and play, you need to get your name on the board early.
More gigs added to the Gigs Page tonight. Big shows this weekend with Owl Eyes and Holland at SolBar, British India and Minor Elite at Noosa Surf Club, and Rikochetz Events have another AA show in Nambour.
Kindread are heading to Brisbane on Friday to play the Queen St Mall from 5pm.
Those wanting another Pine Cone Throat fix.. never fear as he's put more nonsense up. View it here.
21/08/11
Once again, the weather has other plans and has caused another Peregian Originals to be cancelled. Bummer. Next one will be on September 4th, which we believe to be Father's Day.
For the sake of blogging, we've put one up. That's all we're going to say. Ok.. it's about the 'unofficial' opening of The Vault Studio which we attended on Friday night. Just click on the red W thingy... as per usual.
Two big gigs on either end of the Coast tonight.
In Coolum, Ash Grunwald returns and plays the Coolum Civic Centre, with Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction as support. There should still be some tickets still available. $25 at the door and it starts at 6.30pm.
On the other end of the Coast at Kings Beach Tavern, Brisbane's Regurgitator will be playing, with support from The Vagrant City Scandal and Disasteradio with doors opening at 7.30pm.
20/08/11
Saturday night...it's a chilly one, but surely you can take in some live music to warm up.
SolBar has Deya Dova tonight, and we recommend checking out this awesome artist bringing an eclectic mix of world, dance and electro music, with support from Red Bantoo. Remember, SolBar usually packs out on a Saturday night, so get in early.
Sahara Beck is at the House with No Walls tonight, helping out with the CD Launch for Budha's Moon.
Peregian Originals tomorrow (assuming there's no rain) with another stellar line-up featuring His Merry Men, the legendary Barry Charles, Sasta, and kicking things off with be Dan Lyons (nice one, mate!). As usual, it starts at 1pm, and don't forget to contribute a donation to help keep the event running.
The Point crew headed out to the opening of The Vault Studios in Kawana last night (also to celebrate owner Dave Harper's birthday). An eclectic mix of muso's jamming together in the impressive studio made for a very cool and fun night.
Finally... FINALLY... the great Brett Orr is dropping his album. Woo!! November 4th at the SolBar is the date, and he's even managed to ure in DJ Katch from Resin Dogs fame to support. Big night ahead.
We've just submitted our latest article for SCOPE magazine... but promise we don't have our cranky pants on for this one.
15/08/11
We like sourcing new artists on our own, but as we get busier and busier here at The Point, it's very cool (and damn well helpful) when others point out new artists to us. Such a thing happened today when we alerted to the likes of 18 in Spring, and Kage the Kid. Some awesome sounds coming out of these bands.
Check out 18 in Spring (pop punk with a bit of prog in there) here.
Check out Kage the Kid (proggy alternative rock) here.
Open Mic night tomorrow night at SolBar. It's fantastic to see how many people turn up to this now, and how many muso's are actually utilising it and coming out of their shells.
Looks like goremetal legends Excruciate have a new vocalist or guitarist.. and a new drummer? Big changes there! Not sure what's happened but we'll make sure to ask the lads next we see them.
14/08/11
The Point crew lived it up at the Full Moon Dance last Saturday night. So much so that we blogged about it. You know the drill... Red W button takes you right there.
Cleveland Blues are supporting the legendary Ash Grunwald this coming Sunday at the Coolum Civic Centre, making for one hell of a bluesy night.
We heard that one of our young artists' to watch, Ms Sahara Beck got up on stage with The Floating Bridges at the Yandina Street Fair yesterday for their track, The Warrior. Nice work!
Speaking of The Floating Bridges, the boys are back to business and will be supporting The Bloodpoets and Eagle and the Worm at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow in Brisbane on Sept 8, which from memory is Big Sound weekend.
Remember, Roh and Cale from the Bridges (and your humble editor) are back as Those Old Soles this Thursday night at SolBar with All Strings Attached from 7pm.
Bird and Prey are celebrating their 1st birthday next week with a show at the Montville Hall on August 27th with For London and DJ Laces.
13/08/11
We're off to the Full Moon Dance at Verrierdale tonight. The Floating Bridges, Darky Roots, and the mighty Dubmarine. Starts at 7pm (Bridges are on early). It's $25.
If you're hankering for something heavier, Rikochetz events are putting on their All Ages goodness in Nambour tonight featuring Spuhtnik, Gorefield, Quiet Hostility and more from 5pm.
The Beards are at SolBar tonight. Get all hairy and down with the lads, but make sure you get in early.
Yandina Street Fair tomorrow with entertainment all day long, including slots from Sahara Beck (The Alleyway Stage), The Floating Bridges and more.
*Would like to give a shout out to Mark and crew at Shake It Up for helping me out this morning. New bass rig (previous one starting to cough and splutter) in time for gigs coming up. - Ed.
12/08/11
And so another massive weekend begins...
Gin & Kronic with The Intrepids and more at the Kings Beach Tavern tonight.
Multi-instrument collective, The Trip, at SolBar tonight, which looks really interesting/groovy/funky for a Friday night. SolBar's always good on a Friday night, you guys know that.
Hopefully some of you got out there to Cafe Envy (Mooloolaba or Cotton Tree) for their Friday arvo sessions. Keep checking them out. Awesome talent, awesome coffee, and all local.
Tomorrow night, The Beards (if your dad doesn't have a beard, you've got two mums.. you know the one) are at SolBar, so, don't shave, and head on down and get all hairy.
Full Moon Dance at Verrierdale Hall tomorrow. $25 a ticket, so get in early as it has a stellar line-up including Dubmarine, Darky Roots, and the return of The Floating Bridges (they're on early).
The Mank are playing Nambour Originals this coming Sunday, bringing their funky Hip Hop/Dubby sounds to get the town shaking.
Whiplash Festival tomorrow. Unfortunately Inhailed had to pull out, but Messiam are still representing.
Two more days of shooting for the Dead Kelly filmclip to go. Can't really release details of it yet.
More Muso's available on the Wanted page, so if you're looking for the right muso to fit in, go check out the ads. Tonight, a female vocalist (a good one, we might add), and a singer/guitarist/songwriter have been added.
Are you ready for the urban myth band that is...
THOSE. OLD. SOLES. ? They're back. This coming Thursday at Alternative Night at SolBar with All Strings Attached.
Members of The Floating Bridges and Kindread in a random drunken blues collaboration.
09/08/11
So, if you haven't checked out Dead and Southbound yet, go do so now. And if you're an available bassist... these guys need you. Phenomonally brutal and tasty licks.
We've decided to start putting up past articles that we've written for SCOPE Magazine up on the blog (once that issue has gone). July's article on touring is now up, so if you missed it, go have a read.
This THURSDAY night, SolBar has Joelistics (from TZU) ready to tear up the joint, with the always-happy-always-funkalicious Lady Throat Killers as support. This will make for an ultra Bouncy Thursday night at the SolBar.
Another Rikochetz Event coming up this Saturday night. This boys are killing it with their All Ages shows in Nambour, so support them if you like it loud and heavy. See the gigs page for details.
Missing The Floating Bridges? Well, they're home and ready to play the next Full Moon Dance at Verrierdale this Saturday night with Dubmarine and Darky Roots. If you miss that, then you can at least catch 2/5's of the Bridges in Those Old Soles with the good ol' editor of The Point next Thursday night at Alternative Night at SolBar, with All Strings Attached as well.
08/08/11
It's been a long time between updates, so apologies for that. We've been busy.
A huge welcome back to The Floating Bridges after their massive North Queensland tour. Looking forward to catching up with the boys and hearing of their adventures.
Also, Dead Letter Circus should be back in the Country after their huge UK and USA tour.
Congratulations to Pocketlove on their win in the Original Selections battle of the bands. Point rep Wade was there to help with the judging process, and had a hell of a hard time coming up with decisions. Also congratulations to The Roshambos. The Point would also like to congratulate the other bands for their part, but most importanly to Sharna and her team who put in a massive effort organising this competition (and who is a big supporter of local music).
He's back. Pine Cone Throat and the Dead Kelly boys are bringing their new track, 'Let's Go, C*nt' out soon, and will have an accompanying filmclip, which we have been helping to film. While there are still two days left of shooting to do, there was enough footage from the first shoot to do up a teaser trailer. So enjoy.
04/08/11
Thursday night is Alternative Night at SolBar, this week with Finchington and Network Groove, plus the open jam session afterwards, so bring your guitar/bass/djemebe/triangle and have a go.
Drawcard are at Friday's tonight (no, seriously), supporting The Smart. Should be a raucous of a gig.
Tomorrow, Kindread are heading up to Noosa to the Surd Club as part of the Good Vibes single launch. This is an All Ages event (with accompanying adult) and Alys Longmate supports. Starts at 7pm.
SolBar features Drew Wilson tomorrow night, with Charlie Mayfair and Alan Boyle.
Cafe Envy (both of them) again will have live performances running simultaneously tomorrow from 4pm to 7pm. Mooloolaba will have Taylor Moss, while Cotton Tree has Sasha Falker.
The Point will be working on pre-liminary footage on Sunday for a filmclip. Our mate, Pine Cone Throat asked us to film the brand new Dead Kelly clip, so this will be very interesting.
02/08/11
Tuesday night quiteness... for some.
Inhailed have updated their profile. The boys will be a part of the Whiplash Festival next weekend in Greenslopes (along with Messiam representing the Coast metal contingent). Details and link to tickets on the Gigs page.
Thursday night at Alternative Night at SolBar you'll get Finchington and Network Groove from 8pm, and then open jam session afterwards. If you missed out last week, the open jam was pretty epic.
We've started to add 'Snack-size Reviews' now to The Point. What this means is if you're at a local show, digging it, and want to express it, just email or facebook through a couple of sentences and we'll blog it and put it up as a review. Simple. Jason from Phantom Lighter Thieves is the first to utilise this. Go to our blog and check it out. He reports on last Saturday's Dreamkillers/Infirm Persons/Phantom Lighter Thieves/Spuhtnik show.
There's a new wanted ad up on the Wanted page (and probably the most entertaining we've had). If you're a Bassist looking for a project, go have a read.
