Fire up for this weekend folks.
Tomorrow night at the SolBar, Cleveland Blues and the Red Eye Junction finally launch the new single, Bam Bam Boom unto the world (well, the Sunshine Coast anyway). This will be a big one, with support from the phenomenal Jackson Dunn, and those drunk bastards, Those Old Soles. Doors at 7pm.

Spiralsiren are still on the hunt of a drummer up to the task. Come on skinsmen, give it a crack. Go to the Wanted page for details.
27/04/11
Back to normal after the massive Easter Weekend, but don't forget next Monday is a public holiday (for most), so another Sunday session beckons. Peregian Originals will be hosting Kindread and more TBA from 1pm, weather permitting (please permit, weather...please).
Kindread have also signed on to the Paddle out for Whales on June 25 at Hervey Bay. Click here for more info.
Most awesome local photographer, Emma Nayler captured the essence of Idle Theory in their new promo shots which are up on the profile page. Normally we don't make a big deal about this sort of thing, but they're pretty damn good photos. Go 'like' Idle Theory if you haven't done so already, and check them out.
Get ready to get your stomp on this Friday night, as Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction unleash their new single, Bam Bam Boom at the SolBar, with support from Jackson Dunn, and Those Old Soles.
Further North, Minor Elite will be supporting Gold Coast's Electric Horse at the Villa Noosa, with doors opening at 8pm.
It's Open Mic night tonight at the SolBar, so pop on in, grab a pizza, grab the mic and rip it up. You never know who you might see, with the SolBar becoming the local muso's hang on a Wednesday night.
While you're there, tell Mick behind the bar that you checked out his new filmclip for The Lady Throat Killers' track 'Out of Time', which you can watch first, here.
25/04/11
That was a massive weekend.
The SolBar managed to survive two nights in a row of Tijuana Cartel sold-out madness.
Unfortunately for Nambour Originals fans, it was once again called off due to the grounds still not having dried out.
However, this coming Sunday it's Peregian Originals time, with Kindread returning after a small break (performing for the last time with guitarist Dan), plus more acts to be announced.
Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction are ready to launch their new single, Bam Bam Boom! this Friday night at the SolBar, with support from Jackson Dunn and Those Old Soles.
Gold Coast's Electric Horse are back again, to rock the Villa Noosa, with support from Minor Elite. This all happens this Friday night.
The Kombi Killers have sent through a Live EP for us to check out, so we'll get onto this and let you know our thoughts.
There's rumblings of another prog/rock outfit in the works. We're not revealing too much, but we've had sneak previews here at The Point and we like what we've heard.
23/04/11
Have a Happy Easter, Everyone! Be safe, don't drive like d*cks, and watch out for the fuzz as they are everywhere at the moment.
To those lucky enough to secure tickets for the Tijuana Cartel shows tonight and tomorrow night... lucky buggers. Have fun. Should be massive nights. Some of The Point crew will be out, so if you see Wade or Kelstar, say g'day.
Nambour Originals tomorrow, if the weather continues as it is. Catch The Good Ship, The MAP Project and more for free from 1pm in Nambour's Quota Park.
Spiralsiren are still auditioning drummers at the moment, so if you want to be a part of what is potentially one of the bravest, and possibly awesomenessist (*Yes, I think I made up a word - Ed) new bands on the Coast, then head to the Wanted page and look for the contact details.
Point Party 2011 plans are well underway. There's a stellar line-up of musicians performing on the night, and yes, it will be open to the public. Remember to keep Thursday, July 14th free in your diary.
Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction will be launching their new single 'Bam Bam Boom' next Friday night. The response to the song up on Myspace has been so great that they've decided to increase their limited run of discs to 100. These will sell fast on the night, so don't miss this. Cleveland Blues will be supported by the phenomenal Jackson Dunn, and those drunken bluesy bastards, Those Old Soles.
19/04/11
Tijuana Cartel's upcoming shows at the SolBar this weekend are selling like hotcakes (like.. really, uber tasty, sticky, sugary hotcakes). We've heard that Raw Energy have sold out of their lot, but apparently more coming to the Coolum store. There's still tickets available from Billy Hydes and from the SolBar itself. It's going to be a massive weekend folks.
If you haven't heard yet, WA prog kings Karnivool are coming back to the Coast, with a show booked at the Caloundra RSL for June 26.
Also, Splendor in the Grass is coming back to Woodford. The megacampoutfest is scheduled for the 29th to 31st of July with headline acts including Kanye West, Coldplay and more.
The Wanted ads keep piling up... if you're a muso, sitting in your lounge wanting to do something, then check out the ads and see if they fit what you need. Give it a go. Sunshine Coast music is cranking right now.
The Point will be off to Originals Night at Pig N Whistle on Thursday to see Roshambos (ex- Cat Magic) do their thing, then quite possibly over to the SolBar... as we're getting quite addicted to that place.
Kindread have announced the dates and venues of their NZ tour in May. The now four-piece, sometime five-piece outfit are also in the studio, with vocals and bass tracks being done this week for the upcoming single. They'll be playing the next Peregian Originals on May 1st.
Nambour Originals is on again this Sunday, so fill up with Chocolate then lay about on a blanket in Quota Park, listening to a great line-up including Good Ship, MAP Project, and more from 1pm.
18/04/11
So... you all got a little taste of what is to come from Spiralsiren, well now they have a full demo up. The Point got to hear it a little earlier than the rest of you, and we've been digging it since. Go get blissed by shredding guitar, and the much welcomed return of Lance Howard's vocals. Click here. By the way, they're still looking for a drummer.
Cleveland Blues previewed Bam Bam Boom up on their myspace last night, and now they're back in the studio laying down more tracks now.
The Point has also been given some new tracks from Kombi Killers, so we'll get a review up on that in the near future. In related news, Edward Zipper is now called Phantom Lighter Thieves. They have a show coming up at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Nundah on April 30.
A whole heap of gigs have been added to the Gigs page, so go see what's happening.
There's a new Wanted ad placed on the Wanted page, with a multi-talented musician wanting a band/like-minded musicians to play with.
There's a fantastic fundraiser coming up on April 27... thanks to Sharna for alerting us. The Dawn to Dusk Busk for James King is happening all over the Coast next wednesday to raise much needed funds for James' brain surgery. Click here for all the info you need on this.
Contrary to what we informed last night.. there's still a few tickets left for the weekend of Tijuana Cartel goodness at SolBar this weekend. You can get them from Billy Hydes in Maroochydore or Raw Energy in Coolum. Better be quick though.
17/04/11
It's been a massive weekend of music so far (which actually started on Wedneday night at Kings Beach Tavern with Drapht playing to a solid, packed out crowd). SolBar was firing on all cylinders on Friday and Saturday nights (The Point caught MAP Project/Kudos, Outlook, DJ Stomp/Kellogs10k on Friday night, then The Marsden Lees last night... missed out on Rivalry and The Roshambos though, as the line-up to get into SolBar was intense... lesson there - get in early), and the Bump Crew reported that Hightide at the Harbour last night was amazing, with a 700 strong crowd.
Peregian Originals is all go today, with Dubmarine, The Good Ship and Ange Takats from 1pm today. This should be a good one, given that we've been a little deprived of P.O. action lately due to bad weather.
Get into it.
SolBar have their SolBoarding Sunday Session this evening from 6pm. One of the best ways to wind down after a massive weekend.
The Floating Bridges, if you haven't heard, have been announced as the local support for John Butler Trio and Kate Miller-Heidke at Kings Beach Ampitheatre on May 15. Tickets are $68, concession $40, and kids under 12 for $10. This is the Sound Support Disaster Relief Concert.
There's a few more wanted/available ads that have been posted up on the Wanted page, with a Vocalist needed, and a Singer/Guitarist available, as well as Spiralsiren needing a solid, talented drummer. Go to the Wanted page for more details.
This coming weekend (Easter Weekend), the mighty Tijuana Cartel are back on the Coast, playing 2 nights in a row at SolBar. From all reports, the Saturday night is already sold out, but from what we know, Sunday is still selling. You need to get in quick. The Mank will be supporting.
14/04/11
Went out to the Open Mic night at SolBar last night... nice cruisy way to spend a Wednesday night amongst like-minded musicians and music-lovers. Get behind it.
Likewise, right now, it's Originals Night at Pig'n'Whistle. Our own Kelstar is there mingling about. Ollie from The Greenroom is there tonight. Another free night of music.
Two new profiles have been added, with Down from the Sky and the much anticipated Spiralsiren both up and live. Go check out the bands page.
Speaking of Spiralsiren, they need a drummer. You think you have what it takes? Go to the Wanted page for more details. This will be an epic band to be a part of.
Guess the biggest news/rumour out now is that, yes, Point Party 2011 preparations are under way. And this time, it will be open to the public. That means there will be a cover charge, and it will be at a venue, but wait till you see the line-up of bands we have chosen. Oh. My. God. Should be a massive, inexpensive night of some of the Coast's best. Keep July 14th free on your calender, and stay tuned for more details.
12/04/11
It's Open Mic Night tomorrow night at SolBar. Grab a feed, then pick up the courage to show off your talents... or watch others.
Cat Magic have changed their name. The boys have ditched their feline moniker for The Roshambos. Same line-up, same sound, just different name. Go follow the newly named group on Facebook here.
Fans of Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, mark this date in your calender. April 29 at SolBar, Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction will be launching their new single, 'Bam Bam Boom' (recorded by good mate of The Point's, Brian Goodworth - he's recorded The Floating Bridges, The Greenroom and more). Cleveland will be supported by Jackson Dunn, and the always random, enigmatic Those Old Soles.
11/04/11
There's a few new blogs up now and we've linked them to the Reviews page, so there's a few ways to find the reviews put up. Remember, if you feel like you want to share your experience of a Sunshine Coast gig, feel free to send it through to us (just check out our conditions on the About page).
HighTIde at the Harbour this weekend, feature the hugely popular OKA. For more details go here.
Lucy from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council has put the call out for bands (sorry guys, but no metal/hardcore) that would like paid gigs, as there are a few open slots available. You'll need to be musicians between the ages of 15 to 30, and the majority of the band needs to be from the Sunshine Coast. (Remember, this all a part of the Youth Initiative the Council is involved with). Go read the 1st comment on one of today's Facebook status' for the full details.
The MAP Project will be headlining at SolBar this Friday night. Outlook MC was to be support, but due to circumstances, there will be a different support on the night.
The Point is liking the look of the gig coming up on Saturday night, with the three 'next big things' in Indie on the Coast (well, we think so anyway), The Marsden Lees, Rivalry, and Cat Magic on the one bill.
The Floating Bridges will be back down in their second home in Byron this weekend.
09/04/11
Well, despite getting well messy last night, The Point did have a hell of a good time at the SolBar... so much so that we blogged about it.
It's up now on The Point blog.
After all the hub-bub and special announcement that The Floating Bridges won the chance to support Barnesy tomorrow, that gig has now been postponed until May. (*Apparently Barnesy busted a pfu pfu valve or something in Townsville last night. It'll heal and he'll be back, not to worry - Ed)
Congratulations to all bands involved with the Coolum Bizfest Battle of the Bands over the last few days. Eventual winners, Gorefield, deserve multiple pats on the back. Congratulations, guys.

This Sunday's Namiginals will feature 9-man funk machine, His Merry Men, plus the Kelly Family Band, Francesca Sidoti and more.
Don't forget, the mighty Dubmarine are back for Peregian Originals next Sunday. C'mon weather, be nice to us, hey?

Good luck to the three finalists, Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, The Floating Bridges, and Cat Magic, who are in the running to be THE support for the upcoming Coast Jimmy Barnes gig.

Semi-Sunshine Coasters, The Secret Silence (who will be back on the Coast on May 20 with A Family of Strangers and Minor Elite) are back in the studio working on a new album. We've been listening to their debut here at The Point HQ, and should have a review up for that one soon.
Another band will be joining The Point database this week, with Down From The Sky sending through their details and their profile being uploaded soon. They're a young metal band inspired by the Big Four of Thrash (Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeath for the uninitiated).
