Big week of music coming up.
This coming Saturday, Caloundra better brace itself. Turn of the Tide Metal Festival is all steam ahead featuring a brutal line-up of some of the best of the heavy stuff from SE Queensland. It's All Ages too. Check out the poster in the upcoming shows section, or if you're too lazy, just click here.
Grand Atlantic are back on the Coast this Thursday night at the SolBar with support from Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction.
The very spectacularly funky Brett Orr and his band of all-stars will be kicking some absolute buttocks this Friday night as the great man FINALLY releases his album at SolBar. He's managed to score DJ Katch (Resin Dogs) as support too. This will be one massive night on the Coast.
Well done to Mitch Davis and his Dawn Chorus for a fantastic album launch last Friday night (despite the burnt foot). The filmclip looks awesome (it was launched as well). Stunning harmonies and songs full of melody and groove fuelled the set. The multi-media EP looks great too.
And a massive thanks to Deb from Circle of Sounds who rang us up from the Sahara Beck Album launch at House of No Walls tonight, so we could here one of Sahara's songs 'live'. We weren't able to make it, so that had to do. (She sounded great, by the way).

Got to love it when businesses start to take an idea like The Point, seriously.
We, here at The Point Sunshine Coast are proud to announce that local (and downright awesome) business, Controversial are one of our first 'official' sponsors. The Point crew will be rockin' out in Controversial gear and cruising around on their very cool boards. Go check out Controversial's decks (with awesome artwork), shirts, singlets (both for guys and ze ladiesss) and classic sunnies. Woo! Just click on their banner and it will go straight to their Facebook page.
It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship (I'm getting all teary now - Ed.)
Mitch Davis and the Dawn Chorus. Yup. SolBar regulars would know Mitch from his Sunday sessions, but if you haven't checked him out with the full band, then YOU NEED TO DO SO tonight at the SolBar. Doors from 7pm.
Kindread are playing the Nambour Moonlight Markets tonight (hopefully this rain buggers off for a bit) with The Roshambos and Gian. Kindread's Brett has been producing The Roshambos' EP, which we hear is coming along quite nicely. Get down to Nambour CBD from 4pm to catch the bands for free.
The Floating Bridges (do these boys ever bloody sleep???) are playing a sneaky little show at the Noosa Tri this evening in The Woods (Festival Village) in Noosa, along with OKA.
Hopefully the weather clears up for the weekend, particularly for Sunday for Peregian Originals.

Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction have sent their new album off to the mastering process. We've had a sneak peak at a few tracks and have to say they're sounding dirty and bluesy. Looking forward to the finished product.
Noosa's The J is having its 5th Birthday soon with a big weekend of family events, including performances from Alys Longmate, Sahara Beck, The Barley Shakes, The Dave Flower Band, The Secret Whisper, and The Floating Bridges. This is all happening from 5pm on November 5th.
One of our fave's here at The Point, Sahara Beck is launching her Album on Sunday at the House with No Walls, with Mark Moroney, and the phenomenal Harii Bandhu and the Bossanova Cowboys from 5 to 8.
Open Mic Night tomorrow night at SolBar. We're keen to head down to this (since it's been a while). We've heard some awesome acts are really breaking out from doing the groundwork on Wednesday nights. It's one of those nights where you might witness the beginning of an artist's career.
This week may just mark a new move by The Point. Can't reveal too much yet. All in due time.

Despite still suffering from jetlag, we managed to make it out to Joe's Waterhole in Eumundi on Saturday night to review Cleveland Blues, The Blackwater Fever and The Joe Kings. Check the review out here.
We're loving the new tour announcement by The Floating Bridges. The boys are heading down south on their 'Long Way' tour in November and December, finishing up with a killer gig at the SolBar in December.
The Mank will be releasing their new single at the SolBar this Thursday night. They'll be funkin' it up with one of our favourites, the mightily talented MC, Kudos.
Metalheads, don't forget, the Turn of the Tide Festival is coming up very fast. November 5 is the date to get some brutal sounds into your eardrums with the likes of Messiam, Rob Stanley, Shotgun Halo, Trinityde and stacks, stacks more for only $15.
Phantom Lighter Thieves have been working on a 7 song EP, with mixing/mastering looking to be complete by Christmas. Definitely keen to hear this one.

Thanks for being patient while the Editor was away. Back into the swing of things now.
Over the break, a new review was done on Sahara Beck's offering, 'Volume One'. It's one of our favourite records of the year here at Point HQ. See why here.
For those that are regular followers you may have witnessed/read/dispised a blog article written last week. We have since pulled down the blog as we felt it was doing the exact opposite to what it was meant to achieve. Here at The Point, we do like to try and take a neutral position on topics, but sometimes an issue is raised that we are passionate about and decide to speak up. Obviously this caused more tension, so we've decided to step back and wash our hands of it.
Anyways...
Tonight, The Point heads out to Joe's Waterhole in Eumundi to catch The Blackwater Fever, Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction, and The Joe Kings for a healthy blues dose. Doors at 7.30pm.
At the SolBar, it's The Hayden Hack Infusion's turn to burn up the stage, along with support from CC The Cat and The Flumes.
In Nambour Town, Rikochetz are putting on a show full of punky goodness at the Commercial Hotel with Myrtle Place, Fire Driver and Place Your Bets. This one is an 18+ show. Starts at 9pm and is $10.
We've had a few (a few? A mountain-load more likely) emails while we were away... including a new taste of The Mank's new offering, which they are launching next week at the SolBar.
There's also a new Wanted Ad on the Wanted page with a guitarist seeking a singer or a band. Interested? Go to the Wanted page to follow it up.

And now, a word from The Editor...
Hey Point followers. This will be the last update on the website until October 21st. I'm taking a holiday (one that doesn't involve me having to play music, not that I'm complaining because that's awesome too, but this one is just to relax... a week of self-indulgence). So, in my absence, The Point crew will be responsible for keeping you guys up-to-date via the Facebook page and Twitter feeds. I'll pop in from time to time as well. If you have gigs that you want to plug, post them to the Facebook page.
Looks like I'm missing out on some cool stuff while I'm away though, including the very exciting news that The Floating Bridges will be filming the clip to their single at SolBar on the 14th of Oct.
Cleveland Blues & The Red Eye Junction have a massive show coming up with the Joe Kings at Joe's Waterhole on Oct 22nd.
Another wicked Rikochetz AA Event in Nambour to be had.
It looks like October is a month of launches with Carl Wockner already releasing his album, Kindread releasing 'Idealize' single, Rivalry (finally) releasing their EP, The Mank launching their new single, Mitch Davis & The Dawn Chorus releasing their new single... good god, people, there's a lot of new music coming out.
Massive kudos to the organisers of the Caloundra Music Festival. From all accounts, things have gone pretty damn smoothly (dispite the odd storm disruption), and some of The Point crew were there to help out. Hopefully we'll have a review sent in from Wade & Kelstar.
As a parting note, I did up a new blog article that I was going to send to Scope, but thought I'd share it on The Point blog instead. It may get you thinking, it may not, but it's an interesting point that is brought up. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Either email them through to editor@thepointsunshinecoast.com.au, or leave a comment on the blog.
When I return, there'll be a nice new change to the website... a new collaboration if you will. Can't say too much more, but you all know that we like to support the local businesses, and like it even more when that is returned to us.
So, on that note, adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, goodbye!
See a lot of you when I get back. There'll be some Kindread shows the week after I return, and I'll most likely pop into the Solbar to see the lovely team there as well.
06/10/11
Happy Carl Wockner Day. The man himself will be launching his new album at the SolBar tonight, with support from Sharon Brooks. It kicks off from .6.30pm with entertainment in the front bar. Only $5 to get in.
We now have Sahara Beck's debut album 'Volume One' on high rotation here at The Point HQ. A quality album from one of our favourite up-and-comers. We'll be doing a review in the coming week.
With the launch of Triple J Unearthed's Radio Station, we're urging all you music-lovers to get on board and request Sunshine Coast bands. Plenty to choose from. Kindread has launched their new single, 'Idealize' on the Unearthed website (www.triplejunearthed.com) to coincide with the station's launch. Sahara Beck has done the same with 'Smile in the Dark'. Just head on over to the website, search for the artists, download and review.
There's a little festival called the Caloundra Music Festival kicking off from tomorrow. Point Crew will be volunteers at the event, as well as our man Rohan from The Floating Bridges performing on the Sunday.
05/10/11
We reviewed local Country/Pop songstress Taylor Moss' EP, 'Truth or Dare' on Monday and it's already had an awesome response. If you haven't read our thoughts, or grabbed a copy of Taylor's EP, do both now. Click here to go read the review.
We should be getting Sahara Beck's album to review shortly. Very keen to check it out.
Don't forget, Open Mic Night tonight at SolBar. So many cool and interesting musicians are getting up and showcasing their talents on these nights... plus it's free.
The very talented Mr Carl Wockner is launching his album this Thursday night at SolBar. If you are yet to see Carl do his thing, this is the night to do it. The guy is uber talented.
Light the Night on the Sunshine Coast is on tonight. This very worthwhile event draws awareness to those suffering from blood cancer. Kelsie Rimmer will be a part of the entertainment at East Bank, Lake Kawana. Please click here for more information.
Oh... and there's this little thing called the Caloundra Music Festival on this weekend if you didn't already know. No big deal, really. Just some very cool National and local acts absolutely kicking arse... props to our locals The Floating Bridges, The Greenroom, Pocketlove, Stryder, The Benedicts. The Flumes, Lucy and Jade, The Hayden Hack Infusion, Spuhtnik, The Roshambos, Dunsinane and more... This will be a massive event, and The Point crew will be hiding amongst the crowd checking it out (obviously with our man, Rohan in The Floating Bridges playing, we might see if we can get some backstage goss happening).
