Khan formed in the middle of 2009. After working with previous groups, singer-songwriter Khan Harrison spent a number of years experimenting with his own material, looking for a fresh and more dynamic expression for his songs. When he met Johnny Collins and Rob Burr, Khan knew he’d found the bass and rhythm combination needed to take the music to another level. After their first rehearsal together they recognised their kindred spirit and began creating music that combines elements of dub, folk, roots and ethnic sounds whilst uniquely expressing the original and soulful qualities of Khan’s songwriting. Johnny Collins’ smooth electric double bass style coupled with Rob Burr’s sparse multi-stylist rhythms provide an ideal backdrop for Khan’s fresh and distinctive vocals.
Using original tunings and bohemian dub beats, the Khan group create a unique and flowing sound that also draws on classical eastern and western musical influences. At once introspective and moving, at other times uplifting dancehall fun, the Khan sound is a conscious and original music experience that speaks to the heart whilst knowing how to move body and mind. This is truly soul music that reflects the multicultural 21st century western world.
Their new album, “Mirror Reversal” is due out in early 2010.
